Despite all of the cosmetic and minor functionality issues this car runs like silk. Purchased this car 7 years ago for our oldest Son it has been subsequently sold to the other 2 younger Sons. Never in an accident while in the possession of those Sons we originally went through the entire cooling system as it was a NJ car with a lot of rust on the cooling manifold.  Went through the entire system and replaced the manifold and all hoses, radiator, and water pump with all new parts right down to the clamps on the hoses.  Then we took it to the Audi dedicated independent mechanic and told him to go from front to back to replace anything that needed replacement for functionality.

The we had the car detailed and Teflon-ed on the outside before giving it to the oldest Son who lived and attended college in Colorado Springs- which can have brutal weather at times.  Anything it needed for functionality I or my Sons replaced or paid a professional to replace. Recently my youngest Son replaced the subplates that hold the tail light bulbs.  Pretty meticulous.

Tires will have to be replaced somewhere between 5000-10000 miles depending on where you live.  The car recently went in to the Mechanic to determine whether it needed a new head gasket but was found to have a leaking assembly plate and a slightly worn water pump (which then in my opinion, a water pump that needs replacing) soooo.... a new water pump, belt tensioner, timing belt (best to replace when it is all apart), and new lower hoses. Synthetic oil change has just been performed and a K&N filter has been in the car for a few years. Replaced the rear muffler within the last year.

My second Son bought the rims for the car and had the window tinted.  He took my advice and bought 5 rims and tires so the spare matches the others.

Really this car is still striking from a distance though it is  showing its age. The paint is still very strong with no rust issues (we deionized the underside of the car when we first received it and occasionally still do now) but the pinstripe needs to be taken off as it is tired and partially off now.  A perfect car for a kid living in a place that gets real weather.  Has a Bose factory stereo (w/functional cd changer) that needs one speaker fixed (right rear-easy access). AM/FM not sure about but I believe FM works and my boys used a MP3 broadcaster for their Ipods (the cigarette lighter works) We have over the years replaced all of the reservoirs containing fluids, that bugs me when you can't see the condition...

Heated seats, though the leather on the front seats either need to be fixed or at the very least covered as the leather is really torn on the driver's side and the passenger side has a 1 inch tear.

Transmission and engine are unusually silky for ANY car with over 80,000 miles on it.  Just runs down the road like silk and I almost can't imagine it better than when it was new, for $38000! Handling in bad weather is surreal for traction and it feels like it runs on rails.

That is the rundown... It's as honest as I can recall and I  might just give it away unless someone buys it. Donated the car is worth probably $1000 in net writeoff but worth $2500 and I just put $800+ in to it in the last month and it really should go to someone who was in the situation that I was in when I first bought it.  If you have a heat gun and a couple of hours and $200 after you spent the $1000 to $1600 to buy this thing I believe that you will come away with a pretty darn good car...

Audi's Q8 Sport concept packs an electric supercharger

Tue, Mar 7 2017

Audi's Q8 Sport concept doesn't wear S or RS badges, but it does have impressive performance that would qualify it for one of those monikers. Beneath the tangerine skin, Audi says there is a hybrid V6 displacing 3.0 liters, which isn't particularly interesting, but the forced induction system is. Rather than a conventional turbo or belt-driven supercharger, the V6 uses an electrically-powered supercharger. Audi doesn't provide any details on what kind of compressor it is, but it says the total output of the engine and motor combo is 476 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This is apparently good for a 4.7-second sprint to 62 mph. This also isn't the first time Audi has implemented an electric supercharger, having used it before on the SQ7 TDI. That orange shell also has updates to show that this Q8 Sport is the fast one. Most of the brushed aluminum trim of the normal Q8 concept has been swapped for gloss black versions. The regular Q8's grille with its chrome vertical bars is also gone in favor of a black honeycomb piece. The fenders have all been stretched by half an inch, and the exhaust tips are now large ovals that protrude from the rear bumper. Audi still hasn't said anything about when a production Q8 will reach the market. However, there's clearly one coming soon, as we've spotted prototypes running around that look similar to the concepts. Related Video:

Essentially sporty | 2017 Audi A4 Quattro Quick Spin

Tue, Jun 13 2017

Two boxes checked on the options list set our long-term Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Prestige apart, dynamically, from the rest. One is the Sport Package, and namely the sport suspension with its lowered ride height. The other is the 19-inch wheel package, which includes 245/35 summer tires. The A4's sport suspension is taut without being rough. The car feels as though it's gliding over the road, but some of the chop makes its way into the cabin. It mostly isn't bothersome, but you can feel – and especially hear – any larger imperfections you happen to hit with one the tires. Our car's 19-inch wheels, with their low sidewalls, amplified the potholes, too. Largely, though, it's comfortable and supremely smooth if the road's not all torn to heck. The sport suspension does an excellent job of eliminating squat and dive, and side-to-side body roll, which aids comfort. That ride makes for really smooth sailing in your daily driving duties, especially since the rest of the car feels so civil. The transmission works smoothly and seamlessly in the background in automatic mode. We do notice some of the gear changes if only because we're tuned into how impressively smooth and quick they are. On its own, the transmission tends to shift low in the rev range so you don't get a lot of engine noise with normal driving. We know that there's some athleticism hiding under this car's preppy facade when we look down at the speedometer and realize we're going quite a bit faster than it feels. It's so well composed, though, that we'd be perfectly okay with putting our grandmother in the passenger seat without feeling like we were going to freak her out if we were to happen to exceed the posted speed limit. But after dropping Grandma off, it's time to put the car into Dynamic mode (tightening up steering and ramping up the throttle behavior) and switch the gear lever from D to S. Using the paddle shifters on the Our personality and that of the car changed, becoming more aggressive. back of the steering wheel, the A4 transforms into a truly engaging driving machine. It shifts very quickly, and the sound of the engine becomes more noticeable in part because you can rev it higher, but also because you're more tuned into it. Upshifts and downshifts happen in an instant, to help make full use of engine's sweet spots.
