As you can see, it has been thoroughly yet tastefully customized in Cali high end car tradition for show purposes and driveable on the streets. Almost no part of this project left untouched. It turns heads wherever it goes, even here in SoCal where you need to put in work to get noticed.  It was built with the utmost attention to detail for SoCal car shows.  This project took home Best In Class Audi in its first show (represented by all the major car crews) and was featured in Car Audio and Electronics when it was in circulation. Most cars featured in Car Audio have the best audio system builds but minimal emphasis on non-audio modification aesthetics.  This one struck a balance of the 2 so even when you can't see it, you'll hear it.  Any mod-enthusiast knows that trial and error goes into a build like this and painstaking attention to detail was exercised to get everything to fit together in form and function, resulting in this one of a kind project/customized car.  $47K was invested into the project (would have paid $70k if I didn't get hooked up knowing the manager) at one of if not THE premier shop for custom autobody work in SoCal.

This car has been garaged with minimal driving after its first show and 2 magazine shoots.  Since it was built mainly for show purposes and that the 2.8L 12V B5’s had few engine mod aftermarket parts, the engine/drivetrain has basic mods only and is an open canvas for someone who wants to own this car and build the ultimate Audi showcar with show and go.  I was going to install a PES Supercharger, which is compatible with this engine but other priorities took over before I committed.  It is also fine the way it is for someone who wants to drive a show-ready car.  Due to family and work,I can’t devote the time to continue showing/promoting it.  I know that making the money back NEVER happens, even if I part it out.  Because of that I chose not to tear it up even if I can get a little more for it, with the idea that someone will enjoy the product or continue the project.  If you are more than half serious about this, don't hesitate contacting me with questions.

Audi 3D-printed this tiny Type C racer, we want to drive it

Thu, Nov 5 2015

See this little guy? No, not the one driving – that's Professor Hubert Waltl, Audi's head of production and Volkswagen's chief toolmaker. The thing he's driving, though, is a 1:2 scale replica of the 1936 Auto Union Type C. And it was 3D-printed entirely in house. Not in one piece, mind you. It's too big for that. But the Audi Toolmaking division employed metal printing technology to fabricate all the parts that went into this replica of one of the most dominant of the Silver Arrow grand prix racers of the pre-war era. It's essentially like the pedal car Audi rolled out nine years ago, or the E-Tron concept it showed us nearly five years ago. Only this one uses more advanced manufacturing techniques. Aside from making us want to drive it like nobody's business, the half-sized vehicle serves to showcase the advancements which Audi and the VW Group are making in manufacturing – particularly in the area of 3D printing. The German automaker presently has the technology to print laser-melted layers of metallic powder – either steel or aluminum – with grains measuring half the diameter of a human hair. The equipment can handle objects as large as 7.9 inches high by 9.5 inches wide – which, as small as this little car looks, is still a bit too large to simply print out in one piece. Audi Toolmaking prints "Auto Union Typ C" - Exact model of the "Silver Arrow" from a 3D printer - Audi Board of Management Member for Production Prof. Dr. Hubert Waltl: "This underscores our pioneering role in toolmaking." From powder to a component: With a 3D printer, Audi Toolmaking has produced a model of the historical Grand Prix sports car "Auto Union Typ C" from the year 1936. The company is now examining further possible applications of metal printers for the production of complex components. At the same time, Audi is creating important synergies with toolmaking in other parts of the Volkswagen Group. "We are pushing forward with new manufacturing technologies at Audi Toolmaking and at the Volkswagen Group," stated Prof. Dr. Hubert Waltl, Audi's Board of Management Member for Production and Head of Toolmaking at the Volkswagen Group. "Together with partners in the area of research, we are constantly exploring the boundaries of new processes. One of our goals is to apply metal printers in series production." The Volkswagen Group has a total of 14 toolmaking units in nine countries. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr.

2016 Audi R18 whooshes around Sebring to test for WEC

Fri, Dec 11 2015

The 2016 Audi R18 is a radically different endurance racer than the model it replaces. The designers drape the chassis in an angular body rather than the previous curves, and the engineers added lithium-ion batteries for energy storage. Now, we get to see these big changes in motion thanks to a video of the new car testing at Sebring. Like previous iterations of Audi's diesel-fueled racers, the latest R18 is quiet around the track. It seems to sneak up on corners with just a whoosh and a whir from the powertrain. The updated design also looks a lot better in motion than in static photos. Audi had a rough time in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship after losing to rival Porsche both at Le Mans during the summer and in the manufacturers' standings at the end of the year. Porsche would have entered F1 if Audi had blocked its Le Mans program

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Go back a few years and you may have heard rumors of Porsche heading into Formula One. That never came to pass - or at least, it hasn't yet - but that doesn't mean that it wasn't close to happening. That's how committed to returning to top-level motorsport competition Porsche has become recently.
Autosport reports that just as Porsche was merging fully into the Volkswagen Group, Zuffenhausen was weighing its options for a factory racing program. Le Mans was its favorite, which makes sense, as it remains far and away the most successful constructor in the history of the famous endurance race. But the strategists at Porsche were worried that its new corporate overlords at Volkswagen wouldn't support two LMP1 programs and would favor Audi, which has positively dominated the modern era of endurance racing, coming second only to Porsche in the number of Le Mans victories it has scored to date.
Porsche's Plan B was reportedly to head into Formula One, although it isn't clear if the German automaker was intent on starting its own team, buying an existing one or merely providing engines to other teams. Porsche fielded its own cars in F1 in the late 1950s and early 60s, and returned as an engine supplier with TAG to power McLaren in the 1980s, powering Niki Lauda and Alain Prost to the World Championship in 1984 and 1985.
