40+ cars that barely avoid the gas guzzler tax

The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.

This Audi R8 V10 sounds great with a Capristo exhaust

No matter how rainy or grey your Monday morning is, it only takes a video of an Audi R8 V10 Plus with an aftermarket exhaust to brighten it up a little. This black 2016 example has been modified with an exhaust built by the German specialist Capristo, and the results are impressive. The piping makes the R8 crackle and scream in a wonderful way at a recent Gumball event, with cars lining up on the track tarmac to perform a few neat launches despite the drizzly weather. The Capristo exhaust takes advantage of the R8 V10's existing valve system in the stock exhaust setup, and improves upon that with programmable valve control offering different modes. By pressing buttons on the keyfob, the driver can go from "Cruise" mode to "Sports" or "Open", all differing in loudness. Stock the V10 plus produces 610 horsepower, and the Capristo setup is sure to throw in a few extra ones. 2012 Seat Exeo is Audi with the old, in with the new-ish

We know what you're thinking: This car looks an awful lot like an Audi A4. But it isn't. And it is.
Regular readers may be aware that Audi's Spanish sister-company Seat inherited the previous-generation A4 some time after it was replaced. They put some new badges on it and presto! A new flagship model for Seat.
Called the Exeo, it has now undergone a minor facelift that did nothing if not make it look even more like an Audi, if that were possible, and we got up close and personal with the new model here in Frankfurt. Check it out in our high-res gallery of live images from the show floor.
