My 2002 Audi S8 is up for sale. Metallic Black with black leather interior. This car was on my short-list of cars to own since back in the 1990's. Upon finding one here close to me in South Florida three years ago and taking it for a test drive, I knew immediately I had found my new car. It's a true beast, without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. It still turns heads everywhere I go. The styling has aged quite well and it carries quite a presence traveling down the road.
I am the third owner and bought the car with 86,000 miles. The odometer now reads 94,873. The vehicle has spent practically its entire life here in south Florida. All services have been performed by The Collection, Audi Pembroke Pines or well known Audi independent repair facilities here in the South Florida area. I have all records from 2006 until the present and they will be included with the sale. I am very particular about my cars (almost to a fault-ask my wife) and am trying to disclose everything I can about the automobile so that any potential buyer can feel confident in knowing what they are getting. Upon purchasing the car I knew it was due for a timing chain service (a costly procedure). This was performed immediately along with a full inspection of the car for any other preventative maintenance that could be performed. I had the following done: - The timing belt job mentioned above consisting of the belt itself, the dampers, levers, rollers, and serpentine belt. - The thermostat was also replaced at this point as a preventative measure and as it is easy to reach with the belt service being performed. - I also replaced the water pump and had them flush all coolant. - The air cleaner/element was replaced along with the cabin air filter. - An Audi standard 80,000 mile service check was taken care of as well (too much to type). - The engine oil filter was replaced along with fresh oil (100% synthetic) and new spark plugs were installed. - Finally, the transmission fluid, filter and gasket were all removed and replaced. The total for this service alone was over $3,000. The price reflects the small repairs that are needed. -- The front left foglight is missing after the front bumper catching the pavement (a common problem with these D2 A/S8's). Also the right washer mechanism popped out at this time. -- The drivers window regulator failed causing the window to fall off track and subsequently crack itself against the frame (again, a common problem/fault with these cars). You can see clearly in the pictures. The glass is double paned, so there is no leakage whatsoever thankfully. I went ahead and found a donor window off a totaled S8 to replace it with along with a new regulator. The rear drivers window had a small hairline crack at the very top corner when I bought the car (unable to be seen with the window rolled up - why I missed it originally) so the rear window from the same donor S8 was purchased at this time. -- The passenger mirror housing had developed a small crack from the hot sun here in south Florida and the drivers mirror motor was acting up by not automatically tilting downward when the car was placed in reverse, so I also purchased a pair of left and right mirrors (again from the same donor S8 automobile). -- The interior door trim is coming loose on the front driver and rear right passenger doors and will need to be corrected. An easy fix. -- There are small nicks on the front from normal road use and a small scuff on the right rear door trim. Keep in mind that though the car has been well taken care of, it is twelve years old, so it will show light signs of wear. Just see the pictures for verification. I was about to send the car in to get these repairs done but due to another car purchase I am willing to take a loss here. ALL PARTS I bought (front drivers window, rear drivers window, drivers window regulator, driver and passenger mirrors and front bumper washer assembly WILL BE INCLUDED in the sale price. These parts alone cost well over $1,600. Once again -- my loss, your gain. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'm asking $12,500 though I am accepting reasonable offers. Buyer is responsible for shipping though I would be willing to help somewhat depending on your situation - communicate with me what you may need. I should add that the car is also listed for sale locally here in the Fort Lauderdale area and I reserve the right to end this listing early. -- So someone asked: "Why then would I sell her?" I've decided to upgrade to a D3 W12 and would rather sell my car outright than trade her in, get a lowball price, and possibly have it end up at auction or worse. These cars deserve a loving owner who is willing to maintain them and love them. This car was on my short-list of cars to own since seeing the movie Ronin back in the 1990's. Upon finding one here close to me in South Florida three years ago and taking it for a test drive, I knew immediately I had found my new car. It's a true beast, without a doubt the best car I've ever owed. It still turns heads everywhere I go. The styling has aged quite well and it carries quite a presence traveling down the road. I will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have for me though I really have tried to be as thorough as possible here. Nevertheless, ask your questions before you bid. I don't want to deal with uncommitted bidders if at all possible. 2017 Audi A4 Deep Dive
Thu, Jul 16 2015Unchanged. Plain. Boring. These words have been used to describe the new 2017 Audi A4, but they all miss the point entirely. Yes, the design of the new A4 is evolutionary, rather than a ground-up restyling. But as they say in ancient High German, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Of course, if you're at all interested in the 2017 Audi A4, you've probably read all about it in the official press release a few days ago. So we'll cut to the chase and tell you the bits you don't already know: the American-market details. We spent a day at Audi headquarters in Ingolstadt last week finding out the latest and poking around the A4 in the metal. The new A4 is wider, longer, and roomier than before. The lines are crisper and sharper, but yes, the proportions have remained very similar. That was done on purpose, thoughtfully. Not out of laziness. Stand any two sequential generations of Porsche 911 next to each other and you'll find they are rather similar. And yes, people do complain about that. But they also complain about the property tax rate on their third home in Monaco. That familiar-looking body gets a shockingly low coefficient of drag of just 0.23. The improvements in drag come from fine-tuning details down to the placement of the side mirror (now on the door, rather than the triangular window panel) and the contouring of the inner edge of the side mirror, which gets little vortex generating bumps to improve the turbulent airflow in that area, reducing drag. Attention to detail and refinement of a successful design – not boring, lazy repetition. Another notable departure in the styling of the new A4 is equally subtle, but even more significant from a precision manufacturing perspective: the hood has no cut lines on its upper surface. Instead, the hood now wraps around the tops of the fenders, the cut line integrating with the sharp crease that runs down the entire body side. The creation of this cut line requires extremely tight manufacturing tolerances to enable the precise alignment of the hood and fender gap with the stamped-in crease in the door panel; misalignment would be obvious and catastrophic to the clean, simple design's flow. Now, let's rip off this Band-Aid: no, we won't be getting the Avant. Why? Because no one buys it, vociferous vocalizations on the Internet aside.
Audi bringing matrix 'organic' LED concept to Frankfurt
Wed, Jul 29 2015Audi has announced that it's bringing a new concept to the upcoming Frankfurt motor show in September, and now it is teasing the taillights. They adopt organic light-emitting diode technology, which takes advantage of several benefits. For one, it uses a relatively low amount of electricity, between three and four volts. It's also incredibly thin, made up of two layers, each less than a thousandth of a millimeter thick. It casts no shadows, requires no reflectors or any other elements, and emits very little heat. Plus the lights can be formed into different shapes, opening up new possibilities for designers. This isn't the first time we've seen Audi focus on lighting technology, and in recent years it's showcased matrix LED and matrix laser headlights. The company runs through the history of the evolution of its lighting tech in the video above. We'll have to wait a little longer to find out what the team from Ingolstadt will be putting these new taillights on. Audi presents latest lighting technology at the IAA in Frankfurt - Matrix OLED technology makes its debut in a concept car at the IAA - Light attains a new level of homogeneity - Flat light sources open up new design possibilities Audi is presenting its next step in automotive lighting technology at the IAA in Frankfurt. The new Matrix OLED lights enable a previously unattainable level of lighting homogeneity, opening up further creative opportunities for design. As the leading brand in automotive lighting technology, Audi has systematically developed all aspects of OLED technology over the years. Matrix OLED lights combine high-tech engineering and design ideally – initial projects are currently underway to implement OLED technology in production tail lights. They are being shown for the first time in a concept car at the IAA. OLED is an English acronym for "organic light emitting diode." In each OLED unit, two electrodes – of which at least one must be transparent – incorporate numerous thin layers of organic semiconductor materials. A low DC voltage – between three and four volts – activates the layers, each of which is less than one-thousandth of a millimeter thick, to light them. The color is based on the molecular composition of the light source. In contrast to point light sources – such as LEDs – which are made of semiconductor crystals, OLEDs are flat light sources. Their light attains a new level of homogeneity, and its dimming is continuously variable.
