I challenge anyone to find a negative review on this car.  Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, Consumer Reports, Car and Driver - Take your pick, it's one of the best driver's cars ever produced in the sports sedan or wagon category.  It's unbeatable from 60 to 100 with a smooth power band and throaty roar from the exceptional 340hp V8.  The deep red paint job is a head turner even in exotic super car-laden Orange County CA.  I'm often complimented by the valets in the area.  This is a 2002 1/2 model with a new transmission (fully rebuilt last Spring) and tires (2 months old).  The CD changer is currently jammed so the winner of this auction gets 4 free CDs.  I was about to replace the head unit with an updated App Radio and bluetooth interface for smartphones since physical media is dead, but a new owner may prefer an updated NAV, CD, or DVD system.  There are monitors for the backseat mounted on the back of the front seat headrests ready to be hooked up.  In the back is a removable rear-facing seat with shoulder seat belts, an S6 logo cargo bed liner, and a retractable cargo cover.  This was a $65,000 luxury sport wagon when new in early 2003.

Well maintained with very low miles.

Autoblog Minute: Nokia to sell Here mapping for $3.1B

Wed, Aug 5 2015

In a three company partnership the German automakers BMW, Audi and Daimler are set to take ownership of Nokia's Here mapping technology. Autoblog's Eddie Sabatini reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] In a battle for Nokia's highly coveted mapping technology the auto industry claims victory over Silicon Valley. I'm Eddie Sabatini and this is your Autoblog Minute. In a three company partnership the German automakers BMW, Audi and Daimler are set to take ownership of Nokia's Here mapping technology. The Wall Street Journal writes that the automakers had concerns that the technology might fall under the [00:00:30]control of companies like Google, Uber, or Apple. The purchase, worth a reported 3.1 billion dollars, is still subject to antitrust evaluation before it's finalized; but this early news is already a big win for the German three. Ownership of Nokia's Here tech means that automakers won't lose control of the information systems that go into their cars. The deal, if approved, is expected to close in first quarter of 2016. For Autoblog, I'm Eddie Sabatini. [00:01:00] Autoblog Minute Logo Autoblog Minute is a short-form video news series reporting on all things automotive. Audi R18 suffers huge crash during Le Mans practice, driver conscious and alert

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

Loic Duval, driver of the #1 Audi R18 E-tron Quattro, suffered a massive crash today during free practice for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Duval's car reportedly went off track backwards at high speed near the Porsche Curves and flew into the retaining fence. There is no video of the actual crash at the moment, but a video of the aftermath (viewable below) shows significant damage to the Audi and to the fence. The wall nearby the car appears unaffected.
Thankfully, it occurred quite close to a marshal's stand, and they were present almost immediately after the incident. Both the official press release from the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a tweet from Audi Sport (below) indicated that Duval was conscious after the crash, and he was taken by ambulance to the medical center and then to the hospital. The press release says: "His condition is encouraging." However, any injuries he might have sustained are unknown at this time. After the crash, the course was red flagged, and practice resumed about 50 minutes later.
Duval is alert. He will be transported from the Medical Center to the hospital for further examinations #R18 #LM24 @FIAWEC @24hoursoflemans

2016 Audi S8 Plus burns the 'bahn faster

Thu, Nov 19 2015

At no point during my drive of the Audi S8 last year did I think, "You know, this car could really use more power." With 520 horses on tap from a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8, the S8 is a damn good luxury/sport sedan. But I'm certainly not going to complain about a big ol' power boost, and that's just what we have here with the new Audi S8 Plus. It's got the same engine underhood, but power is boosted from 520 hp and 481 pound-feet of torque to a healthy 605 hp and 516 lb-ft. There's even an overboost function that increases torque output to 553 lb-ft for short bursts. That means the big S8 will run to 60 miles per hour in just over three and a half seconds. Hot damn. All that thrust doesn't come cheap, though; the S8 Plus costs $115,825. Of course, that's cheaper than the Mercedes-AMG S63 sedan, but the Merc is a decidedly more luxurious car. Still, a 605-hp S8 sounds mighty fine to me. Of course, a 520-hp S8 was already perfectly fine to begin with.
