For those who have been watching my auctions this year, you know I'm in the process of reducing my car horde. I have a 3 year old son, and a daughter coming in just a few weeks. Plus we picked this fantastic time to move to Northern Michigan. So space and time are at a premium, and some things have to go. I've already sold off a 71 MG, my Scion XB, and a Toyota Truck. This go around, I'm selling one of my projects. I had hoped to keep this one, but I recently made a great deal on a 67 Camaro with a 454, so I'd rather have the parking space for that thing. I purchased this 2 years ago, and had planned on building it up to be my highway car for driving between Detroit and Traverse. As you may realize, I love my car's, and the idea of a nice big V8, that has AWD, and an amazing interior............sounds like a good thing.
If you don't know about the S5, here's a quick lesson. Its the GT version of a A5, which is a 2 door version of an A4. American's thing GT means Ford dumped a bunch of money into a crappy production car. It really means Grand Tourer. Overseas, they build high horsepower cars for long drives. Its ment to be very comfortable, able to go long distances, and pass a guy in a mini van towing a camper as if they were parked. Its not about smoking tires from red lights. All that said, the lovely world governments have restricted emissions, so now, the S5, is a turbo car. Makes similar power as these, but in my opinon, the V8 is where its at. This is the last year for the big V8 in the S model's. You can get them in the RS, but thats another 20K. The one has just under 14K on it, and sounds wonderful. I planned to do a new exhaust and open up those airways, but it never happened Obviously, car has some damage. I own classics, and new cars. NONE of my cars are stock. Even my wifes Subaru Outback has a WRX Suspension and Black rims on it. I just can't leave cars stock. So rather then gut a perfectly good car, I happened upon this car at an auction. Very minimal damage. You can see from the pics, no frame damage, no impact damage, etc. If you look at the pics, you'll see the aluminum from bumper brace. Essentially the real bumper behind the plastic valance. Its not dented up or damaged, I planed to re-use it when I put it back together. The story we got, car was Booted for being parked illegally. Owner was having some beverages....comes out gets in the car, shouldn't be driving. Decides to take off with the boot on the car. The boot tore up the passenger side fender, hood, front bumper, etc, and of course the slamming up and down tripped the air bags in the dash. The dents in the hood now are mostly from us ratch strapping the hood down. The car needs the passenger side wire harness (runs the headlights, fans, abs, etc NOT the motor harness) It needs the grill inserts for the front bumper, a new radiator, a hood, the passenger side engine harness and some odds and ends. Car's 80% done, just needs to be finished. Windshield is new, OEM glass, Yes the door glass is good, I just leave the windows down in case the battery dies. There's no key hole in the door! I locked it and had windows up, that was a pain to get into. As you see, I have the headlights (yes they have the HID Balasts on them) the tail lights, etc etc. The dash is brand new, thats the only way to do the bags in this car. Its actually one giant molded piece. And the reason the windshield had to be done, actually, the bags didn't break the glass!! We had to take the windshield out to get the dash in and out. I pulled the rear taillights and rear bumper to fix a small ding by the back drivers side tail light. Wasn't damage from an accident, I just figured I might as well fix the ding while I was at the rest of the car. Passenger side fender is an OEM A5 fender that happened to be painted the right color. Drivers side is an OEM Audi Fender. The wheels and tires are brand new. They have 0 miles on them. The wheels are replica R8 20in wheels, and the tires are brand new Khumo Escta's. Like I said, I planned to do some subtle upgrades to this car. My plan was to do the car with no badges, and a solid black grill in front. The 20's fill in the wheel wells very nice. Car runs and drives just fine. Its been a couple years, but we took it up and down the road when we first got it. And if you watch the video, you'll see it starts up just fine. I just know its going to sit at least another year if it stays in my garage, and I know this will make someone a fantastic car at WAY less then the 50K these are still going for. I can't speak to other states. In Michigan, the title is very easy to restore. We book an apt with a cop who does road inspections. The check the blinkers, walk the car, etc etc, and give you a form saying its ready to go. Take that and the title to the Sec of State, and they give you a new title. My understanding is, this can be rebuilt in any state. But you'll want to check that with your state. TERMS - Simple, this is a no reserve auction. No I won't take a cash offer. No I won't sell it for 2 mules and your 93 duster. You win the bid, you bought it. If you want to see it, email me and I can set up a time for you to see it. CASH ONLY. If bidding from out of state, figure out your funds. No bank loans, no checks, etc etc. I'm happy to work with a shipper, but I'm only available for pick up 9am-7pm Monday to Friday. Let me know if there are any other questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.

Watch the Chevy Corvette dismiss its Euro rivals at the hands of a Brit magazine
Sat, 08 Feb 2014European auto writers, especially the British, have a bit of a reputation for favoring their own domestic cars over foreign rivals in comparison tests. Just think about how many times you've heard Jeremy Clarkson deify the latest product of UK loins while denigrating an American rival as a hopeless "Yank Tank." However, we have to tip our hats to the folks at Autocar because in its latest video comparing the 2014 Corvette Stingray to the Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type V8 S and Audi R8, it's actually given the Vette a fair shake.
Autocar has put the Stingray through a battery of tests against what it considers to be the three best sports cars on sale in Europe today. And while the tests that it has chosen are somewhat random and subjective, it has concluded that the C7 can stand up against its rivals, even irrespective of its price. It's one thing to hear about how great the Stingray is from American writers, but it's great to know that not all Brits think we've gone crazy for calling the new Chevrolet "exquisite."

Winterkorn kept diesel scandal secret, letter claims
Tue, Mar 1 2016Former Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn allegedly kept quiet for two weeks about emissions defeat devices in the company's models. US officials eventually made the automaker's deception public on September 18th. "In the conversation on 03.09.2015 with the regulator CARB (California Air Resources Board), the defeat device was admitted," an employee told Winterkorn on September 4, according to Reuters citing Germany's Bild am Sonntag. Based on this information, Winterkorn had plenty of time to admit the problem. Evidence like this letter continues to suggest top figures knew about the emissions problem. In addition, a separate Bild am Sonntag report recently claimed that an employee emailed Winterkorn in May 2014 to tell him US regulators could discover the cheating. In the lower echelons of the company, the deception was allegedly an open secret among engineers as early as 2006, and people kept quiet even after workers tried to admit what was happening. This culture of secrecy seems to go even deeper than just the diesel emissions scandal. For example, engineers admitted that they cheated on CO2 tests to meet the company's strict standards. According to Green Car Reports, these problems also affected the US. In 2004, an Audi worker in America allegedly discovered an issue with the exhaust gas temperature sensor in some vehicles, but a German executive said not to admit the problem to US regulators. It's not clear whether any high level employees tried to fix the diesel emissions issue or if they simply kept the problem hidden. The company's internal report, which is due in the latter half of April, might address that concern. So far, the VW Group has said only a small group of people caused the scandal. However, these many allegations to the contrary make that claim difficult to believe. Related Video:
Audi's Project Artemis woes could delay range of VW Group EVs
Tue, Jul 19 2022Two years ago, Audi's then new CEO Markus Duesmann announced his first big initiative called Project Artemis. The plan's marquee component is "to implement a new lighthouse project for Audi in record time," being "a highly efficient electric car scheduled to be on the road as early as 2024" on a brand new platform that would be shared with Porsche and Bentley. An ex-VW and -Porsche man named Alex Hitzinger, who'd also spent time at Apple working on the tech company's electric car, was brought on board to lead Project Artemis and come up with new ideas. Parent Volkswagen Group said it wanted to become "as agile as in a racing team," removing the bureaucratic molasses and bottlenecks interfering with getting the best product on the road in the best time. However, in any grand venture, failure comes before success. Automobilwoche reports that Artemis is struggling through issues large enough to push the product plans back by years. The issue, as it was with the ID.3 lineup on the eve of that car's launch, is software. Well, that's the latest, largest problem; Artemis has already been through copious struggles before getting to the software bit. Two months after Hitzinger came on, in December 2020, VW raised its EV volume target from 50% to 70% by 2030. That necessitated a rethink of the VW Group's entire platform strategy considering the far greater production scale. Hitzinger only lasted six months in the job, ousted in May 2021, supposedly because Audi believed his ideas were "not suitable for profitable series production" among other reasons. By that time, the pace of software development was already said to be six months behind schedule, with the Car.Software division working on VW.OS 2.0 "not yet running at the speed hoped for." Internal frictions were noteworthy and costly as well. VW's commercial division plant in Hanover was meant to build Artemis vehicles for Audi, Porsche and Bentley, but Automobilwoche reported in January of this year that Porsche paid a ""small three-digit million amount" — like $100 million or so — to get out of the deal mandating its vehicles come from the Hanover facility.  So Audi effectively brought Artemis in-house to lead vehicle development, and Car.Software turned into Cariad to get VW.OS and VW.AC, which stands for Automotive Cloud, to market. The first Audi vehicle under Project Artemis was planned to arrive by the end of 2024, a production version of the Grandsphere concept.
