1985 Audi 5000s Wagon In Very Good Condition For Sale! on 2040-cars

I’ve been restoring this gem.  Unfortunately, I’m now in the process of relocating overseas with my job and there isn’t an easy way to take it with me.  So, up for sale it goes, along with pretty much everything else I own.

 

This is everything I can think to tell you about it:

 

GENERAL

1.     It was purchased in May of 2012 on eBay from someone who specializes in one-owner cars and it was shipped to Phoenix.  The single owner before me was in San Diego, CA which is where the car came from so the body is in very good condition with no visible rust

2.     It has been waxed by hand twice a year since I’ve owned it

3.     The interior and all rubber/plastic exterior parts have been treated with Armor All twice at least twice a year since I’ve owned it

4.     All repairs that have been recommended were performed with the exception of the items in the Condition section below

5.     The oil has been changed every 3,000 miles, by the Audi dealer, with full synthetic oil (important to know because it will require synthetic oil from now on)

 

CONDITION

6.     Numerous repairs have been made to it since I’ve owned it (see the section(s) below outlining not only the repairs that have made but also the condition of everything I can think of including all the options and their respective functionality).  It also outlines everything included in the sale including documentation, parts and accessories. 

7.     Overall it is in very good condition

8.     It has the 2.2L 5-cylinder engine which was one of Audi’s best engines of all time

9.     It is my daily driver so as of the time of the listing it has 93,851 miles (there will be more miles on it before the auction ends but I travel 100% for business so it’s usually parked in covered parking at the airport for days at a time so it doesn’t get driven a whole lot)

10. It has no visible

11. I’m not a lead-footed driver and have enjoyed pretty good gas mileage which, according to the trip computer, is approximately 25 in the city and 34 on the highway (when cruise control is used)

12. It has passed every annual smog test, including the most recent one on 6.16.14

13. All of the repairs have been done by Chandler Audi since I’ve owned it until I recently moved more than an hour away from the dealer at which time I took it to a mechanic that specializes in vintage cars and did all the repairs the one time it was there.  If you’d like to speak with my vintage mechanic I’ll be happy to provide his name/phone number (just send me a note through eBay)

14. There are no leaks, noises, or other engine/transmission issues me or my mechanic are aware of as of the time of this listing (the dealer said the engine/transmission were in excellent condition the first time they saw it)

15. I’ve driven it on a several long trips (250 miles each way) through the Arizona mountains, with the AC on, loaded with people and stuff, cruise control set at 80 (AZ speed limits are mostly 75 on highways) and never had any issues

16. Things I know need to be repaired:
a. The vinyl covering the door panels is bubbling/peeling in various places and need to be re-glued which are all pointed out in the photos
b. The Resume function of the cruise control only works intermittently.  The Set, Cancel, On, and Off functions all work properly
c. There are rock chips in the paint in various places and I did my best to point out every one with the exception of the ones in the door jams (see photos)
d. There are dings/scuff marks/scratches in both of the bumper covers that appear to be from parallel parking (see photos)
e. The radio currently installed has scuffmarks in the radio preset buttons 4 and 5 (see photos)
f. Both of the exterior rear-view mirrors do not currently work.  Two replacements are included and are wrapped in bubble wrap so they are not visible in the photos.  Both of them have round mirrors affixed to the surface and the passenger side one is cracked underneath the mirror affixed to the surface
g. The rear hatch lock assembly needs to be replaced because it is difficult to open it and it does not lock
h. The driver’s door map pocket appears to have been re-glued with something yellow (see photos) and I put stuff in it all the time and it shows no sign of coming loose any time soon
i. The middle rear bumper filler needs to be repositioned
j. There are a few barely noticeable dents all pointed out in the photos (I think I got all of them.  They are so minor I forgot someone them existed)
k. The front inner tie rods need to be replaced which my mechanic are causing an intermittent vibrating when the brake pedal is pressed (sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn’t do it at all), as well as a knocking noise when accelerating, braking, and intermittently when turning
l. The front bumper has a few screw holes from the license plate holder from being manually affixed by the previous owner (front plates are not required in AZ do it is not currently affixed but is included)
m. The right turn signal indicator in the dashboard intermittently does not light up when it’s on (the clicking sound still happens and the blinker is blinking on the exterior)
n. The car came with a Sony aftermarket stereo installed, which was removed and replaced with the current OEM unit that is installed.  When the aftermarket stereo was removed it was discovered that the Convenience Control Module needs to be replaced which makes the interior lights go on when the doors are opened, remembers the radio station presets, as well as the trip computer settings.  The trip computer, radio station presets, and interior lights all work but only when the ignition is turned on.  As soon as the ignition is turned off, the presets are deleted and need to be reset the next time the ignition is turned on.
o. The light bulb in the front passenger side map light and one bulb in the front passenger side visor vanity mirror both need to be replaced
p. All of the rims have curb scrapes (see photos)
q. Both of the front speakers were replaced with Pyle speakers (see photos) and the matching Pyle speakers for the rear are included (see photos).  The two speakers that were installed in the front are in the box the Pyle speakers came in (one was an Audi speaker and one was a Kenwood speaker).  The rear speakers sound good but I bought replacements so all four will match
r. The chrome windowsill moldings for both of the rear doors look like they are slightly bent (see photos) and replacements are included should the new owner agree
s. There is a crack about 1” in length between the windshield and far left dashboard air vent (see photos)
t. There is what appears to be the remnants of something that was stuck to the dashboard to the right of the instrument cluster in the tray (see photos)
u. There is the strangest intermittent brown staining in the vinyl door covering along the interior window sills of three of the doors (it comes and goes on it’s own but seems to lie dormant for a longer period of time after Armor All is applied and the Audi dealer had no idea what was causing it).  The same staining is on the rear outer side of the rear passenger side headrest and just to the right of that on the top of the seatback (see photos)
u. It will need, at some point, need an exhaust hanger for the rear part of the muffler (it just had hangers fixed/installed the last time it was in but something happened to one of them so I temporarily fixed it myself using a metal chain)

v. It needs an AC to heater core hose for the AC to blow cold (until that hose is replaced it will only blow cool)

28. ALSO included is are two replacement speakers for the rear that match the new speakers in the front (see photos)

Seats	Yes	All the seats are in excellent condition with no cracks, rips, tears, stains, etc.  I'm not sure if they are leather or vinyl but they look original and are in such good condition I'm guessing they are vinyl

LOGISTICS/SHIPPING

50. Since I’m in the process of relocating overseas, I don’t care what it sells for as long as it goes to a good home

51. I’m happy to work directly with a shipper should you choose to use one (I’ll provide all my contact information following the conclusion of the auction) and all costs/responsibility/damage related to shipping are the responsibility of the buyer.  The eBay shipping option(s) looks pretty good and was not available when I purchased this car

52. The car must be picked up by the buyer/shipper/designated agent within five business days following the conclusion of the auction unless my travel schedule requires it to be longer, in which case I will let the buyer know as soon as I know, because I do not want to be responsible for anything that could happen to it while it’s still in my possession

53. I travel 100% for business so I apologize in advance as my responses to inquiries may be slow

54. Also because I travel 100% for business it may take a bit of effort to arrange pick-up/shipping logistics and I apologize for that in advance as well.  However, my intention is to make the process as simple as possible.  With this in mind, I am recommending using a shipper unless you live in Phoenix because I am often only home long enough to do laundry, unpack, re-pack, and go right back to the airport.  We can also arrange for the keys, title, etc. to be mailed once payment(s) have cleared and the buyer can come at his/her leisure to pick it up and I do not have to be here (if you think of any other way to arrange pick-up/delivery, let me know.  I'm happy to consider things I have not thought of)

55. Unless my schedule changes, I will be out of town until the day after the auction ends

56. My license plate(s) will be removed prior to releasing it to the buyer/shipper

57. The car is for sale locally so the eBay listing may be ended at any time

PAYMENT

58. Payment is via cashier’s check or cash in-person (cashier’s check may be mailed or given to the shipper).  I’m also willing to accept a wire transfer.  If this option is desired, the information needed to facilitate this type of transaction will be provided following the conclusion of the auction (I'm guessing this will be the easiest option and I'm willing to allow extra time for processing as I had to do this once and if I remember correctly, it took a week for the money to reach the seller's account and be cleared)

59. Payment in full must be received within seven business days (same timeframe as pick-up) following the conclusion of the auction and the $500.00 deposit be cleared/approved through PayPal prior to release to the buyer/shipper/designated agent

60. Should a fail-to-pay situation arise, in order to have my eBay/PayPal commission fees refunded, an unpaid case must be opened which will result in an automatic negative mark on the buyers account from eBay

The person who bought the other car I had listed figured out a way to send the entire payment via PayPal. When I set up the auction ebay indicated PayPal could only be used for a deposit. I'm not sure how he was able to use PayPal for the entire payment but if you are able to figure out how to do it, PayPal is preferable over all other forms of payment.
