Aston Martin previews 'world's most powerful luxury SUV'
Wed, Jan 19 2022Aston Martin is preparing to expand the DBX lineup with what it promises will stand proud as "the world's most powerful luxury SUV." Concrete details remain few and far between, but the British firm released a short video to preview the mysterious new model. Posted on Aston Martin's official social media channels, the 13-second flick shows a sporty-looking wheel design, a piece of carbon fiber interior trim, and the company's wing-shaped logo embroidered into a headrest. What's perhaps more telling is the engine revving in the background. While previous rumors claimed that the spicier DBX would get a V12 engine, this one sounds a lot like a V8 to our ears. If the DBX S — a name that hasn't been confirmed for production yet — indeed lands with a V8, the unit will certainly be an evolution of the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine that powers the standard model. It develops 542 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque in its regular state of tune; how much power it will make in the S is still up in the air. AMG pushes it to 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque in the GLE63 S and the GLS63 S (which are sitting out the 2022 model year), but those figures wouldn't give the DBX access to the power crown; Porsche's Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid has 670 horsepower and it qualifies for the "luxury SUV" label. Expecting an output of 670-plus horsepower isn't unreasonable, though crossing your fingers for the 720-horsepower V8 from the GT Black Series is likely wishful thinking, plus the usual assortment of chassis, suspension, and braking system upgrades needed to keep the cavalry in check. Aston Martin's preview hints that visual modifications inside and out will be part of the performance-oriented package as well. Intrigued? So are well. We won't have to wait long to find out: the next DBX variant will make its debut on February 1, 2022. Related Video:
Mid-engine Aston Martin Project 003 supercar teased
Wed, Feb 20 2019Aston Martin has officially announced its next mid-engine supercar with a teaser and a working name: "Project 003." From the teaser image, it should be a stunner with a body that's all curves and wide athletic haunches. We also dig the exhaust outlets through the engine cover. Aston says the supercar will borrow some technology from the Valkyrie, with that car's lightweight construction, active aerodynamics and active suspension likely candidates. Still, Project 003 will be a very different vehicle. For one thing, it doesn't have an absurdly high-revving naturally aspirated V12. Instead, it's a gas-powered, turbocharged hybrid. Aston Martin hasn't said how many cylinders, but it seems safe to say it will have at least eight. Then there's the fact that this will be more practical for road use, with Aston specifically mentioning that this car will actually have luggage space. How novel! We expect that the car will be a bit more civilized in the ride and noise departments, too. Aston Martin says that the first of 500 total examples will reach owners starting in late 2021. While it hasn't said for sure, we expect to see the car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Between the show and when it reaches customers, it will probably get a real name, just as the Valkyrie began life as Project 001, and the Valkyrie AMR Pro was Project 002. Aston uses DB11 canvas to show what Q can do for you
Thu, Feb 23 2017Aston Martin is putting greater emphasis on its bespoke Q division, which creates and builds one-off designs. At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Aston is bringing a prime example of what Q can do for you. The beautiful Zaffre Blue DB11 shown here showcases Q. The paint is complemented by exposed carbon-fiber details on the front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser, side strakes, hood vents, and door mirrors. Carbon fiber is also on the wheel center caps and under the hood on the engine cover. Inside the DB11, the Obsidian Black leather interior features Q logos embossed on the seats and a four-piece set of color-matched luggage in the trunk. While the company's claim of "almost limitless opportunities" to create a customer's perfect car may be hyperbole, Q's reach goes far beyond simply picking paint or leather colors from a big list or design book. Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, and other high end brands also offer programs similar to Aston's. A customer who commissions Q to build a car will be able to choose from a range of unique leather quilt upholstery patterns, body-color matching wheels, and a choice of new wood or leather interiors. Aston equates the choices to that of a tailor or a custom yacht builder, with each car built to a customer's specific desires. These customers work with specialists from Q to design their bespoke vehicle. If you have the means, Q can probably make it happen. The DB11 will sit alongside the new Aston Martin Vanquish S and the AM-RB 001 hypercar that was co-developed with Red Bull Racing in Aston's stand this year. Related Video:
