Aston Martin may have filed a trademark for a new logo [UPDATE]
Sat, Jan 21 2017UPDATE: Aston Martin did indeed file a trademark for the logo below, but company CEO Andy Palmer has confirmed it will be used for merchandise and won't replace the classic winged logo on cars. Here's Palmer's tweet: For those who reached out, we have no intention to remove/change the Aston Martin Wings. This logo is for merchandise https://t.co/iWdejAwO00 — Andy Palmer (@AndyatAston) January 23, 2017 "There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours." Those words were spoken by Cary Elwes in the classic 1987 film The Princess Bride. Or, if you prefer, they were written by William Goldman in his book from 1973 by the same name. Either way, it doesn't matter. The point is, there aren't many things in this world that are perfect, and that have stood the test of time without alteration. The Aston Martin logo is one of those rare things. Apparently, Aston Martin filed a trademark application for a new logo. You can see it below. It's unclear where this design might make an appearance. If it's on pens, watches, or some other non-vehicular form, that's fine. If it's on the bonnet of a new supercar rolling down the line at Aston's plant in Gaydon, well... that's another matter entirely. Please, Aston Martin, your logo is perfect and has stood the test of time. Don't even think about changing it. Related Video:
What does Aston Martin have planned for the name Aeroblade?
Wed, Dec 23 2015Aston Martin is working on something called Aeroblade, and the company recently filed a trademark application for the name. According to AutoGuide, the paperwork suggests the name could be used for a component, not for a model designation. The word indicates some kind of aerodynamic element, potentially in the form of an adaptive wing like those seen on the McLaren 650S, Bugatti Veyron, and so many Porsches over the years. Deployable spoilers allow a sports car to keep the airflow clean and undisturbed in some conditions and generate extra downforce under others. The use of the Aeroblade name for a component makes more sense than an actual model name. Aston typically starts its nameplates either with the letter V (as in Vanquish or the Vulcan pictured above) or DB (as in the current DB9 or forthcoming DB11). It has been known to make exceptions – like in the case of the Rapide four-door coupe or Cygnet city car – so we could be in for a surprise. The British manufacturer of luxury vehicles is working on a new generation of models to replace its current lineup. That includes a new platform to replace the aging VH architecture and a new engine under development with Mercedes-AMG. It's also working on bringing its first crossover to production, as previewed by the DBX concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Related Video:
Aston Martin CEO to personally inspect first 1,000 DB11s
Wed, Jul 13 2016The Aston Martin DB11 is going to be a significant vehicle for the British automaker and to ensure that new owners are getting a flawless vehicle, CEO Andy Palmer will be going the extra mile to personally inspect the first 1,000 models. According to a recent tweet by BBC Autos reporter Matthew Phenix, Palmer will be working overtime to give the first set of vehicles an extra dose of love. The CEO will also be placing an inspection badge, which bears his signature, onto every one of the DB11's V12 engines he looks over. Only 1000 Aston Martin DB11 V12's to be made with this particular inspectors plaque! pic.twitter.com/lkmMTJpGE8 — Andy Palmer (@AndyatAston) July 13, 2016 The idea of giving the DB11 more love over the rest of Aston's lineup makes sense as the DB11 is the first all-new vehicle to debut from the automaker since Palmer took over as CEO in 2014. The DB11 is the 10th car in the iconic DB lineage that began with the gorgeous DB1 in 1948. And with the DB line being the most successful model for the automaker, there's a lot riding on the new DB11. This isn't the first time a CEO has gone to extreme lengths to ensure that vehicles are up to snuff as Elon Musk reportedly slept in a sleeping bag on the factory floor for the production of the Tesla Model X. Hopefully Palmer's extra effort will pay off for the DB11.
