This 1978 Spider convertible is as close to a barn find as you can get. It has been in storage for the past fifteen years or so, freshly removed. 39K original, documented miles. It was purchased from its original owner just two months ago. Probably all receipts since new. Sold new in Phoenix, AZ and has never left. This is a running and driving car, but needs some TLC and could be considered a 'project' car.

I bought the car recently because I can rarely pass on a good deal, and to have as a summer time convertible for fun. But I have not done the minor repairs needed to make it a reliable daily driver so I am just putting it up for sale instead.

Since it was brought out of storage recently, both fuel pumps have been replaced (the in-tank and along the frame) and it has a brand new battery. The car does need some work though before it can be driven regularly due to the long time storage. The person who did the fuel pumps also cleaned the fuel tank but said that the fuel sending unit was no good, and that fuel would leak if the tank was filled up too much. The engine sounds good but runs rich and idles low. It seems similar to a vacuum leak, but I have not investigated the cause. It should probably get a fresh tune up. The transmission feels just fine, as does the clutch. The clutch master cylinder leaks a little under the hood when depressed. I have already purchased a new one in the box. It is included but not installed yet. The tires are very dry from the Arizona heat. They should be replaced before driving any distance. I have never tested the AC, but it is still intact. You can get in this car and drive it, but I don't think it is ready for more than just short drives as it is.

The body and paint are in okay, driver condition. No rust ever, anywhere. Most of the paint is original, but it has had some repaint work done. The panel in front of the hood, and the passenger fender and door look like they were repainted a long time ago. In the large stack of receipts there is one for $800 in touch up paint from when the car was almost new (1980). The plastic chrome 'V' that mounts under the front bumper is loose and not in very good conditon. There are some dings, scratches, and chips, but not more than you would expect for a car that is 35 years old. All the glass is good. Overall, you can drive this car as it is without having to do anything to the exterior.

The interior is all original and somewhat dry. The seats have dried and split in the cushions, the drivers side especially. The carpet is in good condition, but very sun faded. There are two cracks in the dash. The steering wheel is very nice. The door panels are good. The convertible top is completely dried out and needs to be replaced. The original convertible top boot is decent. I had new clips installed on it. The radio works. All the gauges except the fuel and speedo work.

It is still nice and clean under the hood. Never messed with and all original. The trunk is decent and has the matching aluminum spare tire and original tools.

Overall this Alfa is unique in the fact that it is a desirable older Spider, but is a one owner, 39k original mile car. It does need some work, but it won't take much to make it a good, 'get-in-and-go' weekend convertible.

The car comes with a clean and clear Arizona title with a little over 39k box 'A' (actual and correct) miles. The car is sold 'as is'. I will help with transportation as I can. The car can be stored for a time if needed. The car is located in Phoenix, Arizona.

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia still makes us swoon

Wed, Sep 16 2015

It may have debuted in June, but Alfa Romeo's hot new Giulia makes its first public appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show this week. And even though we've told you all there is to know right now, we just can't resist bringing you another set of photos, and another round of praise. Alfa is once again showing the Giulia in top-of-the-line Quadrifoglio spec, complete with a twin-turbocharged V6 that's said to make around 510 horsepower. We already know it sounds awesome, and all we can say is, watch out BMW M3. Alfa Romeo is quoting a 0-62 time of less than four seconds, and we're told the car will have the quickest steering in its class. Sounds good to us. The Giulia will officially launch in early 2016, and while the top-trim Quadrifoglio will probably start around $70,000 or $75,000, less-aggressive, more mainstream models will also be available. There's talk of four-cylinder power with both gasoline and diesel motivation, but it's unclear exactly what's in sore for the US-spec car. Still, it's exciting to see the new Giulia, and we're eager to drive Alfa's latest when it goes on sale next year.
Your browser does not support iframes.
Related Video:

Industrial designer seeking classic car, sketches his finds as he shops

Tue, Jan 20 2015

The process of shopping for a vintage car can be both a joy and a nightmare. Wrapped up with the exciting opportunity of owning a classic is the anxiety of picking just the right one. Canadian industrial design professor Bruce Thomson and his wife are chronicling all of those ups and downs in a fascinating way. On their blog Kicking Vintage Tyres, Bruce exploits his talent as an expert draftsman to create detailed sketches of the vehicles they are considering, along with driving impressions of each one. The idea for the site started on a whim. After selling his 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220 a while back, it was time to own another classic. Bruce was looking at a Triumph TR6, and a friend asked for a description of the car. Bruce responded with a massive email detailing everything he saw, and the concept for the blog was born. "It dawned on me early that my search was not going to be as easy or as quick as I had expected," he said to Autoblog in an email. "I decided that the best thing I could do would be to make a sort of 'game' out of the search by sharing it with others." Thomson's sketches truly set the blog apart. He clearly has an exceptional eye for a car's lines and often mixes his drawings with inset depictions of key portions of the vehicle. Beyond just the fabulous diagrams, the site is a great read too. While the TR6 initially topped the list, Thomson's search has broadened over time, and a Series 2 Alfa Romeo Spider and BMW 3.0CS also received consideration. "I'd not commit myself to any preferences though, as my head is easily turned," he said. The criteria are that the car must have a manual gearbox, be made between 1959 and 1976, preferably European, hopefully a convertible and cost 15,000-25,000 Canadian dollars ($12,525-$20,870). No matter how long it takes, this is a wonderful hunt to follow along with. 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia get revamped trims and pricing

Thu, Dec 17 2020

After a major interior and infotainment update last year, the 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia get a more mild update consisting of a smaller trim lineup and a couple of extra features for some trims. The update also includes small price increases across the board. Four new colors are available, too, including Ocra GT Junior, Verde Montreal, Rosso GTA and Rosso Villa d'Este. The first two of those are shown in the galleries. Available trims have dropped from seven to four, with a couple of them simply becoming option packages for the remaining trims. The base trim is now called Sprint, a callback to Alfas of the past. Standard equipment for this trim is unchanged, including standard 10-way power adjustable leather seats, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, proximity key and automatic emergency braking. As such the price only increases by $50 to $40,745 for the Guilia and $42,745 for the Stelvio. All-wheel drive is a $2,000 option on all Giulias and the Stelvio Sprint. Higher trim Stelvios get all-wheel drive standard. 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio View 14 Photos The Ti and Ti Sport get the most additional standard equipment over last year's versions. They now get dual-pane sunroofs, navigation and HD radio. The Ti Sport also picks up a standard limited-slip rear differential. The Giulia and Stelvio Ti increases in price by $1,300 to $43,995 and $48,395 respectively. The Giulia Ti Sport price goes up by $1,500 to $47,195 while the Stelvio Ti Sport sees a $2,000 increase to $51,595. The Quadrifoglio trim, with its twin-turbocharged V6 is unchanged for 2021. It does get a $250 price increase with the Giulia starting at $76,345 and the Stelvio at $82,345. Related Video:
