1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Convertible

This vintage custom racer taken in by our consignment facility has a fiberglass top and a rebuilt engine. It has new tires and spare, new starter, and new battery, racing seat belt straps installed on both seats. It comes with the convertible top assembly but has no canvass on it, just the assembly. The door windows are custom Plexiglas sides that latch in place.

The Alfa Romeo Spider is a roadster produced by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1966 to 1993. Widely regarded as a design classic, it remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes. The three first series were assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco and the fourth series in San Giorgio Canavese. The Spider was the last rear wheel drive Alfa Romeo produced before Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was introduced.

It was the last project in which Batista Pininfarina was personally involved. Parts are readily available and don't require “factory computers” to fix and maintain. While rust was a major issue in these cars, this particular example is rust and rot free. See pics for actual condition as this is part of the description.

This Spider is 1 of the 3868 made during the 1978 production year. This is admittedly not perfect, the fiberglass top is a bit scuffed up and out of shape. Starts runs and drives good, shifts through the gears nicely. We have been personally using this daily and is tested as road worthy and road legal, lights, heater blower, and wipers work, horn not working.

For the past couple years this car has been a summer road driver and has proven its reliability for the previous owner. We do not have the racing history of this racer. The tires are nearly new. A pure Italian classic, this one gets a lot of attention and questions when exposed to the general public. You can run every day and work on it in your garage with parts that are readily available.

While the car is in running and reliable condition, the fuel injectors appear to be running slightly rich. The car is available to see and test drive any time during the course of this auction. Cas is being sold as is/where is with no warranties of any kind implied. In our honest opinion, this car will run and drive from here to anywhere you live in the lower 48 States.

 Terms:

$200 down payment within 24 hours of auction close, balance due within 1 week.

We allow up to 30 days free storage if needed.

We will work with your shipper to make sure your car is safely loaded and on its way to you.

Alfa Romeo's limited Quadrifoglio Carbon Editions start at $86,470 this fall

Fri, Oct 6 2023

Alfa Romeo, which is generally fairly conservative about offering upscale “special” editions of its mainstream cars, is giving its customers in North America an exclusive opportunity to order a limited-edition 2024 Giulia or Stelvio Quadrifoglio Carbon Edition. Limited to 130 units combined (!), the Carbon models are essentially a bit of decoration: on the exterior, thereÂ’s a carbon fiber V scudetto grille, mirror caps, gold calipers and black badging. Interior enhancements include sporty interior design touches, such as exclusive red leather sport seats and carbon fiber interior trim. Paint color options are Vulcano Black, Alfa Red or Rosso Etna. Engine specs are borrowed from the recently updated standard models, featuring a turbocharged 2.9-liter six-cylinder engine with 505 horsepower, routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard adaptive suspension. This suspension technology is designed to read the road and quickly adjust shock valving to deliver greater handling characteristics at speed while maintaining a comfortable ride. The models will begin arriving in Alfa Romeo dealerships this quarter with a manufacturerÂ’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $86,470 for Giulia sedan and $93,870 for Stelvio SUV, including a destination fee of $1,595. “WeÂ’re excited to offer our North American consumers further customization with the new Alfa Romeo Carbon Edition, which enhances our sporty-Italian style with a unique and head-turning appearance on top of an unrivaled driving experience,” said Larry Dominique, head of Alfa Romeo, North America. “This limited edition elevates the passion of Alfa Romeo with a beautifully crafted design combined with the unsurpassed performance from our legendary Quadrifoglio models.” Related video: 2020 Alfa Romeo #Giulia Quadrifoglio vs. 2013 Dodge #Challenger SRT8 392 #exhaust comparison

Stellantis to offer electric versions of most of its European lineup by 2025

Thu, Apr 15 2021

Newly merged automaker conglomerate Stellantis will offer electric versions of almost all of its European lineup by 2025, it said on Thursday, as the auto industry faces regulatory pushes in Europe and China to accelerate the shift to zero-emission cars. Formed in January by the merger of France's PSA and Italian-American group Fiat Chrysler, Stellantis is the world’s fourth largest carmaker with 14 brands including Opel, Jeep, Ram and Maserati, and like its peers faces an investor community keen for a road map to an electric lineup to rival Tesla . Speaking during Stellantis' first annual shareholders meeting, Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said that in 2021 the carmaker expects sales of electrified vehicles — that is, both plug-in hybrids and fully electric models — to more than triple to over 400,000 units in 2021. By 2025, electrified vehicles should make up 38% of European sales, a huge jump from the 14% of sales it expects in 2021. Tavares said by 2030 electric models should make up 70% of European sales and 35% of U.S. sales. He said Stellantis will use four electric platforms for passenger vehicles across its 14-brand empire — small, medium and large sizes for cars, and "frame" for high-margin SUVs and pickup trucks. Sweden's Volvo said this month its lineup would be fully electric by 2030, and Ford Motor Co said in February its lineup in Europe would be too. BMW has said at least 50% of its car sales should be fully-electric models by 2030. Sales of electric and plug-in hybrid cars in the European Union almost trebled to over 1 million vehicles last year, accounting for more than 10% of overall sales. The mood at this year’s Paris Motor Show: Quiet

Tue, Oct 2 2018

The Paris Motor Show, held every other year in the early fall, typically kicks off the annual cavalcade of automotive conclaves, one that traverses the globe between autumn and spring, introducing projective, conceptual and production-ready vehicle models to the international automotive press, automotive aficionados and a public hungry for news of our increasingly futuristic mobility enterprise. But this year, at the press preview days for the show, the grounds of the Porte de Versailles convention center felt a bit more sparsely populated than usual. This was not simply a subjective sensation, or one influenced by the center's atypically dispersed assemblage of seven discrete buildings, which tends to spread out the cars and the crowds. There were not only fewer new vehicles being premiered in Paris this year, there were fewer manufacturers there to display them. Major mainstream European OEM stalwarts such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Nissan and Volkswagen chose to sit out Paris this year, as did boutique manufacturers like Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is not simply based in some antipathy on the part of the German, British and Italian manufacturers toward the French market — though for a variety of historical and societal reasons that market may be more dominated by vehicles produced domestically than others. Rather, it is part of a larger trend in the industry. Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would not be participating in the flagship North American International Auto Show in 2019 — and that it might not return. Other brands including Jaguar/Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mazda and nearly every exotic carmaker have also departed the Detroit show. Some of these brands will still appear in the city in which the show is taking place, and host an event offsite, to capitalize on the presence of a large number of reporters in attendance. And even brands that do have a presence at the show have shifted their vehicle introductions to the days before the official press opening in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. In many ways, this makes sense. With an expanding number of automakers, with diversification and niche-ification of models and with wholesale shifts that necessitate the introduction of EV or autonomous sub-brands, there is a growing sense that, with everyone shouting at the same time, no one can be heard.
