1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Convertible

This vintage custom racer taken in by our consignment facility has a fiberglass top and a rebuilt engine. It has new tires and spare, new starter, and new battery, racing seat belt straps installed on both seats. It comes with the convertible top assembly but has no canvass on it, just the assembly. The door windows are custom Plexiglas sides that latch in place.

The Alfa Romeo Spider is a roadster produced by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1966 to 1993. Widely regarded as a design classic, it remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes. The three first series were assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco and the fourth series in San Giorgio Canavese. The Spider was the last rear wheel drive Alfa Romeo produced before Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was introduced.

It was the last project in which Batista Pininfarina was personally involved. Parts are readily available and don't require “factory computers” to fix and maintain. While rust was a major issue in these cars, this particular example is rust and rot free. See pics for actual condition as this is part of the description.

This Spider is 1 of the 3868 made during the 1978 production year. This is admittedly not perfect, the fiberglass top is a bit scuffed up and out of shape. Starts runs and drives good, shifts through the gears nicely. We have been personally using this daily and is tested as road worthy and road legal, lights, heater blower, and wipers work, horn not working.

For the past couple years this car has been a summer road driver and has proven its reliability for the previous owner. We do not have the racing history of this racer. The tires are nearly new. A pure Italian classic, this one gets a lot of attention and questions when exposed to the general public. You can run every day and work on it in your garage with parts that are readily available.

While the car is in running and reliable condition, the fuel injectors appear to be running slightly rich. The car is available to see and test drive any time during the course of this auction. Cas is being sold as is/where is with no warranties of any kind implied. In our honest opinion, this car will run and drive from here to anywhere you live in the lower 48 States.

 Terms:

$200 down payment within 24 hours of auction close, balance due within 1 week.

We allow up to 30 days free storage if needed.

We will work with your shipper to make sure your car is safely loaded and on its way to you.

Alfa Romeo Milano EV teased in camo ahead of April reveal

Wed, Jan 24 2024

The Alfa Romeo Milano is officially set to be revealed on April 10 this year as the Italian company’s first fully-electric vehicle. In addition to a reveal date, AlfaÂ’s given us some photos to pore over and get an idea of what the Milano will look like when the wrappings are taken off. For starters, though, donÂ’t get too excited about the prospect of buying one. The Milano is expected to be sold in Europe and perhaps other international markets, but not in the U.S. ItÂ’s said to be related to the Jeep Avenger, which is another small EV we donÂ’t get on this side of the pond. Just like the Avenger, the Milano is a small subcompact crossover that appears to be one size smaller than the Tonale, which is sold here. Alfa promises that itÂ’s taking this project just as seriously as any from a dynamics perspective, though, touting that engineers from projects like the 4C, 8C and Giulia/Stelvio Quadrifoglio are ensuring the Milano lives up to AlfaÂ’s high standards through testing at its Balocco test track.  If we ever get to drive it, weÂ’ll be sure to test AlfaÂ’s claims that it will be the best in its class for dynamics and handling. As for the design, the Milano is a stubby little SUV with what appears to be a fairly strongly raked rear window. The camo in front only does so much to cover up AlfaÂ’s traditionally triangular trefoil grille. Its wheel and tire package is shockingly big for such a small vehicle as it wears massive 20-inch wheels wrapped in low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport EV performance tires. Despite the Milano launching as an EV, itÂ’s expected to offer gasoline variants, too. We analyze the possible powertrain options in our most recent report about the Milano, but all of our questions should be answered in April this year, so stay tuned for news on the first electric Alfa. This Alfa Romeo Spider is a four-wheeled fountain of youth

Wed, Jan 20 2016

For some, the only real way to experience a direct connection with nature while driving is to be piloting a convertible. Keith Helmetag is one such individual. His 1969 Alfa Romeo Spider fulfills his desire to commune with the outdoors on the road, while simultaneously reminding Helmetag of his youth. The Spider's flowing lines especially appealed to Helmetag's eye as a designer. He loved the nose's pointed shape and the boat-tail rear's downward arch to the narrow taillights. To make it his own, he removed the badges and added plastic headlight covers to bring the Alfa's look closer to the original clay model it was styled after. Helmetag's design tweaks pair with a few engine modifications to create a roadster that perfectly fits its owner's relaxed style. Check out this Alfa as Petrolicious takes a drive along tree-lined roads, which are great surroundings to match the Spider's green paint. Related Video:

Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition marks a day we never thought we'd see

Thu, Apr 17 2014

Alfa Romeo has been teasing its return to the United States for years. Each time, it's seemingly been pushed back for one reason or another. The last time we had our Alfa fix fulfilled was when just a few hundred examples of the 8C Competizione crossed the pond late last decade. Now, though, it looks like finally Alfa will be coming back, showing this, the 4C Launch Edition, at the 2014 New York Auto Show. By now, you should know the brief on the 4C – ultra-lightweight, mid-engined, turbocharged and with non-power-assisted steering. It's a driving instrument, and one we've admired from afar since it hit the European market. The 4C Launch Edition is the opening volley of Alfa's US return and adds a number of items to the already appealing sports car. The 500 Launch Editions will be limited to three colors - Alfa Red, Rosso Competizione or Madreperla White. It sports standard bi-xenon headlamps, which do away with the polarizing covers that highlighted European models. A carbon-fiber spoiler and mirror caps and unique forged wheels round out the changes for first US-spec 4Cs. The suspension is firmer, with performance-tuned shocks and stiffer front and rear sway bars. Meanwhile, a racing exhaust should help the turbocharged, four-cylinder engine make its presence known. It doesn't seem like the power output is changing thanks to the new exhaust, although we're expecting the 4C's already throaty warble will sound even better. You can take a look up top for our full gallery of live images of the new 4C or you can scroll down and take a look at the official press release from Alfa Romeo. Then, hop into the Comments and let us know if you think of the latest Alfa to be sold in the US.
