For Sale is My 1978 Alfa Spider Niki Lauda Special Edition.
An 87K Original Miles, Central California Car, this spider has no rust. It has been well cared for by two previous owners and detailed properly for sale by me.
I Purchased it from a Couple in their Late 60s and early 70s who had owned it on the Maine coast for Ten Years. It was always stored winters and driven only during our short summers here in Maine.
Running Condition is Very good to Excellent and it has been kept that way with Frequent Maintenance and Proper Spica Fuel Injection Tuneups and Filters. If you buy it and choose to drive it home it will make it anywhere without trouble, so buy with confidence that this Alfa Runs reliably and is ready to take home!
Condition of the Body is Outstanding. Virtually, the only speck of rust is at the bottom of the drivers side fender and hardly worth mentioning.
I have included pictures of the underside taken from a lift so that purchasers can see the condition of the floorpans, rocker panels and complete underbody.
With only one previous re paint this spider still looks impressive, though there are some water stains on the front and some fading from the California sun. The body is still nice and straight with only minor dings here or there.
The Original Seats, Door Panels, Dash and Gauges are in Great Condition, there is only one crack in the dash, the Gauge Faces are clear and the Chrome around them Shines like new. All Gauges Work Just Perfect. Carpets are the original Light Grey Blue Berber and while not perfect are still perfectly serviceable.
The Condition of the Convertible top is like new and the rear plastic window clear and beautiful.
When you open the hood, the Beauty of Alfa's all Aluminum Twin Cam engine Shows with the polished valve cover and clean presentation. The Car has Been Upgraded with an Electric Cooling Fan and Electronic Ignition which eliminates Ignition Points and the Maintenance which accompanies them.
There are no major oil leaks.
The Original Campagnola Alloy Rims are all in Nice Condition with a 5th in the trunk.
Tires are white lettered with plenty of tread and look good against the stripes and color of the car.
Speaking of the Stripes Unique to the Lauda Edition, most all are in pretty good shape save for the front portions. There is a body shop in Illinois which just completed the restoration of an identical car and has had a new set made. They are said to offer a kit for other cars and I have been meaning to contact them for a price.
The Brakes Up Front are completely new with Calipers, Rotors and Pads on Both Sides just Replaced.
It has a New Cat Back Factory Style Replacement Exhaust just put on.
The Car Runs Strong and Smooth and Accelerates as you would expect a Pedigreed Sports car to, which is the essence of an Alfa Spider!
The Handling of these cars is Tight and Fun.
Transmission is fine, though must be shifted slowly between first and second which is typical for any Alfa Transmission with some miles on it. In the Owners manual they suggest Shifting when cold at 20 Mph to facilitate easy gearchange and consistent with this, shifting gets easier as the trans fluid warms up.
The Trunk is in Great condition and the Original Tool kit is Present behind the carpeted flip down partition.
The Niki Lauda Special Edition Models do not come up for sale too frequently and this is an excellent opportunity for you to Buy it and own one. Don't Miss it! I am Running a Ten day Auction to give it plenty of visibility and will not be re running it six more times.
Please Keep in Mind that this is an Original, Unrestored Classic car, it is in Great Shape and well maintained but it is not perfect, you will not be disappointed when you buy it because you can see that it is Very Nice and my description is accurate.
I love the car but we have 2 dogs, a newborn and two other Convertibles with four seats that we use more frequently, a Saab Turbo and Subaru GL, so we are choosing to let the Niki go as it is not getting used enough.
Please call with any questions about the car, for more pictures or to make a legitimate offer. I reserve the right to end the Auction at any time for any reason.
You can Reach Me in Maine at 207-478-6918
Transportation of the car is the buyers sole responsibility but I will assist your shipper in coordinating pickup and loading of the car, or should you choose to fly in or take a bus I am happy to pick you up at the terminal.
Thank You and Good Luck!

Alfa Romeo Tonale drops the non-hybrid 2.0-liter for the U.S.
Mon, Nov 21 2022Until last week, we were expecting the Alfa Romeo Tonale to be sold with two powertrains here. When the compact crossover greeted the world for the first time in February, Alfa Romeo told us our market could expect a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the base option, putting out 256 horsepower through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels. The premium choice would be a plug-in hybrid powertrain that paired a 177-hp, 1.3-liter four-cylinder turning the front axle with a 121-hp electric motor working the rear axle for a combined 275 hp. The PHEV would also be capable of 30 miles of pure-electric motoring in the U.S. Alfa Romeo boss Jean-Philippe Imparato told Automotive News Europe during the media drive that the non-hybrid 2.0-liter is no longer an option for the U.S. because Alfa Romeo needs to go especially aggressive on reducing emissions here. In Europe, the Tonale can be ordered with both powertrains as well as a diesel. Here, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) recently proposed a new set of regulations that lay out tougher benchmarks for an automaker's CO2 emissions. If the regulations pass, 35% of an automaker's sales in the state will need to be zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV) by 2026 and 100% by 2035. California, by itself, is on the cusp of passing Germany as the world's fourth-largest economy, according to Bloomberg. Furthermore, 13 states and the District of Columbia adhere to CARB emissions rules, nine of those follow California's ZEV program, and three more states will join the ZEV regulations over the next three years. Alfa Romeo sold just over 18,000 cars here last year, and it needs plenty of Tonales to offset all those Stelvios. Across the Atlantic, the Euro 7 emissions giving carmakers public fits are slated to come into force on July 1, 2025. For these reasons as well as Alfa Romeo's commitment to going all-electric this decade, Imperato told ANE the PHEV is "an existential need" in the lineup. An Alfa Romeo spokesperson in the U.S. elaborated to Car and Driver, "As a premium brand, the PHEV better aligns with what our customers want in this segment as it provides an elevated experience, greater performance, and more than 30 miles of electric range." The subtext here is that the Tonale's corporate twin, the Dodge Hornet, will offer both powertrains when it goes on sale next year.
2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the priciest Alfa you can buy
Thu, Feb 15 2018Alfa Romeo has finally announced pricing for its Stelvio Quadrifoglio high-performance crossover, and it's not cheap. The base price is $81,590, which makes it the most expensive car in the Alfa lineup. The next most expensive is the Giulia Quadrifoglio at $75,295. That's a difference of roughly $6,000. And you can make the Stelvio even more expensive by optioning in Sparco carbon fiber shell racing seats or carbon ceramic brakes. Alfa hasn't revealed pricing for those, but expect the brakes to cost the same $8,000 that they do on the Giulia Quadrifoglio. You do get a lot of car for the money, though. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio gets the same twin-turbocharged, Ferrari-built V6 as its Giulia counterpart, still making 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That will take the car to 60 mph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 177 mph. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is also the current SUV lap time record holder at the Nurburgring. If the price seems acceptable to you, you'll be able to pick one up early this year. Dodge Hornet supposedly snapped inside Alfa Romeo Tonale factory
Tue, Feb 22 2022It appears that someone in Stellantis' Pomigliano d’Arco Assembly Plant in Italy couldn't keep their cellphone to themselves. Video uploaded to the Alfa Romeo Club Italia Facebook page, then quickly removed, purports to show Dodge's brand-engineered version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale in the same factory where the Alfa will be built. The Dodge is expected to be called the Hornet, and there are a few differences between it and and Alfa Romeo, which is understandable. But if the screenshots on Twitter are accurate, then the Dodge looks a lot closer to the Alfa Romeo than perhaps anyone expected. The front fascia and hood fall in line with Dodge's design language. The Alfa grille is replaced by a narrow, stepped upper grille, and the hood is one of the vented units similar to those available for Dodge's R/T performance trims. And as Mopar Insiders noticed, the silhouette of this car's front end matches a vehicle silhouette Dodge showed during Stellantis' 2021 EV Day.  Inside, the Italian brand's crest in the steering wheel center cap is replaced by Dodge's twin slashes, and the steering wheel has been stripped of the large, curved paddle shifters the Tonale showed on its debut. There's still a start/stop button on the steering wheel, but where the Tonale has a driving mode dial on its dash, this supposed Hornet has another start/stop button. Dodge's push-to-start buttons are usually on the instrument panel, so our guess is that the wheel is a holdover for testing. On the center tunnel, the parking alert buttons and Italian Tricolore flag on the Alfa Romeo are replaced by three different buttons.  We've known Dodge has two electrified vehicles on the way, and the Hornet name has been low-key buzzing for two years. Fiat Chrysler applied to trademark the name in the U.S. in March 2020; at the time, it was thought a vehicle with that name could replace the Journey. In 2021, a July rumor out of Italy was the first whisper of the Hornet name being attached to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. In August, when Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said Dodge would get a PHEV in 2024, watchers pegged that model as the Hornet. That hybrid powertrain would show a year after the vehicle's launch, the Hornet anticipated as a 2023 model with the Tonale's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. That engine could get the same 256 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque as the Tonale, or be boosted to satisfy Dodge's performance credentials.
