1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Normale, red with black interior. Complete short-wheelbase car, original engine and trans, off the road 40 years, never restored, basically sound, needs restoration. Last of the pure 750 tunnel-case Spiders, after the summer break the cars began to morph into 101s with split case trans, etc.

Alfa reports: "According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1495.04151 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, manufactured on the 26th July 1958 and sold on the 1st August 1958 to Hoffman Motor Car Co., New York, U.S.A.The body colour is red."

I bought this as a  parts/restoration car in 2012 to support another 750 Spider. Seven Alfas is proving to be too many, and something's go to go. Detailed descriptions below, and happy to answer questions, provide more info. Phones 510 526-0391 h, 510 684-2350 c. Car is in Berkeley, CA, in-person inspections encouraged so you know what you're getting, not relying on my assessment.

History: See above, sold new in Belmont, CA at Howard Motors, likely in the Bay Area since new. One owner til early 1980s, engine ran out of oil in 1975 and it sat unused til sold to original owners' friend in 1981, then to me in 2012. I have the original bill of sale and old registrations, was "junked" in 1981 and plates turned in to DMV. I have no current paperwork and no plates. Sat covered from 1981 to 2012, inside since  bought it.

Body: SWB 750 Spider, originally red, repainted once, now paint is old and tired. Nose has been hit, fixed with bondo, not very well. Amazingly minimal rust; body is sound, slight bubbles in rockers, floors all good, trunk floor has one small tear at left gas tank hanger, some corrosion below battery but no holes. Some bubbles along bottom of trunklid. All body panels look original. VIN clearly stamped on firewall, data plate on hood matches. Bumpers present but have some dents and rust. Glass good, trim present if not all installed. Grill poor.  Top included, canvas poor, drape included, needs stitching. Missing clamp for spare tire, no jack.

Interior: Original red carpets present, rubber mats gone. Seats are originals from a 58 Veloce, never recovered. Tracks on driver's side are torn, per normal, but pans are good. All tracks present. Top drape, door panels, rear area panels all present and original. All door hardware present. Dash good, gauges present, tri-gauge came from another car, missing bezel. Original locks and keys. One or two switches missing. Includes radio blank plate, mirror good. Steering wheel complete, has one or two rim cracks.

Engine, trans: Original 750 Normale engine 1315.43718 present, matches data plate. Ran out of oil in 1975, one bad bearing, not sure what else, I have not torn open. Engine complete except for 1-4 exhaust piece, which was broken. Includes air cleaner, Lucas generator and starter, and 750 fuel pump. Water pump lacks fan. I sourced a new rod, but engine likely needs full rebuild. Original tunnel-case transmission is included, with correct shifter, boots, and knob. Driveshaft all present. Floor was never cut up for a later split-case transmission. Exhaust sytem present. Radiator, trans mount and cross member etc out of car but included.

Running gear, brakes: All suspension and steering intact. Has five Fergat wheels from a later 1958 Spider, good older Sears tires to tow on. Brakes all present, LR was taken apart but I reassembled. Rolls fine. Diff intact, condition unknown.

Electrical, other. Electrical system is all there, plenty of wires are not great after 40 years' sitting. Assume new harness is needed. Front headlights are installed but cobbled, taillights are good, missing one bezel.

Inspection, papers, contact. As above, I have no current paperwork, but original sales receipt and old DMV forms, and bills of sale from original owner, to second, to me. No plates. Inspections strongly encouraged. This is a very solid 750D to restore, but clearly is a big project and I'd like you to judge for yourself. Call 510 526-0391 to arrange to inspect, happy to tell you anything you want to know, photograph, etc. Contact through ebay to get more pics, and I can tell you by phone the AlfaBB thread on this car.

Alfa Romeo franchises 86 dealers across North America

Tue, Jun 10 2014

Alfa Romeo's return to North America has been a long time coming, which has given us plenty of time to wonder: Will the now-merged Fiat-Chrysler let Fiat dealers sell Alfas, or will the shapely Italians be available in Maserati dealers? The answer we've been waiting for? Both. Auburn Hills has just released the list of 86 initial dealers that will be authorized to sell the Alfa Romeo 4C (Autoblog senior editor Seyth Miersma is driving one today in San Francisco, incidentally), setting the groundwork for a larger Alfa Romeo lineup to follow. The list includes 82 dealers across 33 states and four more in Canada. Though the vast majority are expanding upmarket from Fiat studios, a few are branching downmarket from Maserati dealers - not a one of them, in case you were wondering, having expanded from a Ferrari showroom. The highest concentration of dealers will be found in California, Texas and Florida, but while you might have thought Little Italy would be a prime location, there won't be a single dealer in Manhattan. Not in any of the five boroughs, in fact, so if you live in New York, you'll have to trek out to Larchmont in Westchester or Somerville, New Jersey, to place your order. Of course, that's at least the case for now, as Alfa plans to eventually expand to over 300 dealers in North America. In the meantime, you can check out the full list in the press release below to see how close you are to a new Alfa dealer. ALFA ROMEO FRANCHISES AWARDED TO 86 DEALERS IN U.S. AND CANADA - Alfa Romeo dealer network established in U.S. and Canada - Initial pool of 86 dealers drawn from existing FIAT and Maserati brand dealers - Additional Alfa Romeo franchises to be awarded later this year June 10, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - An initial group of 86 dealers have been awarded Alfa Romeo franchises in the United States and Canada. In the U.S., 82 Alfa Romeo dealers are located in 33 states, with California, Texas, and Florida having the largest concentration of dealerships. There are four Alfa Romeo dealers in Canada in this first group. These 86 dealers will be the first to sell the all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C coupe and limited-edition 4C Launch Edition when the iconic Italian sports car brand returns to the North American market this year. "This group of dealers represents the first phase in the Alfa Romeo dealer network selection process," said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development, Chrysler Group LLC.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider brings roofless Italian performance to the well-heeled masses

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Following through on its Geneva concept and year-end rumors, Alfa Romeo has introduced a roofless version of its mid-engine 4C at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Like the Lotus Elise, the canvas top on the 4C Spider isn't some fancy automatic roof. Instead, owners will need to manually sort things out. Unlike the Elise, at least, the 4C's top is easier to manage when both fixing and removing from the mid-engined sports car's body. For those that prefer the security provided by a hard top, a removable carbon-fiber roof will be added after launch. Aside from that change, most of the tweaks for the 4C Spider have to do with options and equipment. As we explained in our original post, opting for the topless version of this turbocharged Italian will still get you to 60 in just 4.1 seconds, while Alfa claims the 4C Spider can still pull 1.1 lateral g. Check out our full gallery of photos of the new 4C Spider, direct from the floor of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, at the top of the page. Aston Martin applies to trademark 'Vanguard' name

Thu, Mar 30 2023

Aston Martin hit up three trademark registration offices in an effort to reserve the name "Vanguard." The automaker from Gaydon sent two requests to the European Union Intellectual Property, one to the Japan Patent Office, and one to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on March 22. CarBuzz discovered the filings and suspects the name could be applied to the carmaker's first battery-electric vehicle. We've no idea if that's correct, but it sounds like a fine guess. Two years ago, then-Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers told Motor Trend the automaker would overhaul its conventional lineup in 2023, launch the luxury automaker's first EVs in 2026, and convert half the lineup to electric cars by 2030. Other reports from last year indicated the brand would offer an electrified version of every model in the range by that year, and launch an EV in 2025. The new Vanquish is expected to arrive in 2025 with a hybrid powertrain, and there were suspicions awhile back that it would offer an electric option. The questions are, is the Vanguard the name for the rumored electric Vanquish? And if Vanguard ends up being used anywhere, and that use is on an EV concept or production car, has the timetable for that car's appearance changed? Filing a trademark often happens in the final year or two before debut. Aston Martin just applied for the DB12 name; we expect that car on the market in less than a year. A similar span separated the Valkyrie, 2001 Vanquish, DBS trademarks from their launches. On the other hand, the Cygnet got trademarked here two years before its launch, the DBX, five. Our guess is that we'll see the EV before the timeline we might have expected in 2021. This is the brand's 110th anniversary year, after all. Between that, the raft of new product on the way, and a stunning start to the Formula 1 season, why not take advantage of the momentum. Company boss Lawrence Stroll might also want to show investors — both those who could inject more money and those who might be trying buy a large share — that the company is ready to ride the alternative energy tide the appropriate way this time, as opposed to its last electric effort, the Aston Martin Rapide E. The electrification is anticipated to commence this year with the arrival of the V8-powered plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Valhalla, and could be bolstered by a mild hybrid system in the updated DB11 thought to be renamed DB12.
