Up for auction at "No Reserve" is a 1989 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio Spider. Vin # ZARBA5563K1064990.
Clear Car Fax. Clear "Michigan" Title 91,560 Original Miles. I will be adding more pictures within the next few days. Due to an unexpected opportunity I am having to offer my 1989 Quadrifoglio Spider up for auction at "No Reserve". The Quadrifoglio was part of an estate and I was told that the owner purchased it off the showroom floor of the local Alfa dealer in Kentucky in 1989 with 8000 miles on it. It was kept in the same family for the entire ownership as it was conveyed to me. The Alfa has seen little use over the years showing only 91,000 miles. Has not been used for at the last year if not longer. Will need some general maintenance work as noted in the description below. For those that are not familiar with the Quadrifoglio Model, it was the top of the line model offered at the time. The Quadrifoglio came with a color coded factory "hard top", special "recaro" style seats and a factory body kit as well as special 15 inch "phone dial wheels". This example is completely stock down to the original factory shift knob and radio. The body is in good original condition as shown in the pictures. The paint on the Alfa is weak and really would benefit from a repaint. The body shows previous paint work that does not match very well. There are also numerous chips, cracking in the paint and scratches that have occurred over the years, including a good sized scratch on the right front fender as shown in the pictures. These imperfections in the paint do not show up very well in the pictures, but upon closer inspection paint condition is quite evident. The body itself is very solid with excellent panel gaps on the doors, trunk lid and hood. The floor pan is in good condition with no evidence of rust or damage. Rust is limited to a small "bubble" at the lower portion of the driver's side front fender and also there is a soft spot in the spare tire well. Hard Top has small 1 inch crack. Lower valance below rear bumper has 2 cracks in each corner - not very noticeable but worth mentioning. Has small "outie" dent from battery. Nose panel is in nice condition with no damage. Trunk carpet in very nice condition. The interior is in excellent original condition showing very little wear. The dash is very nice with a few small cracks near the defroster, but not the typical large cracks. The factory leather seats are in good condition. Both door panels are in nice condition however the driver's side needs new mounting clips. The dash itself as well as the center console are all in very nice condition as shown in the pictures. The original "red" carpet is in very nice condition as is the rear jump seat area. Has original convertible top that could use replacing. The original factory radio and power antenna both work fine. The 2 Liter engine starts up easily and runs quietly with no strange noises. As best as I can tell there has not been any major work done to the engine and I suspect that the head has never been off. With many Alfa's, there is some indication that the headgasket will need to be replaced at some point since I can see some oil in the overflow bottle. The Alfa does not have any noticeable oil leaks underneath. Gearbox seems fine with typical weak second gear syncro. Clutch pedal feels a little soft and may need to be bled, but does not have any issues getting into gear. Lights, blinkers, wipers & heater motor work fine. All lenses in good condition with no cracks or damage. Has new center section of the exhaust. Known issues: Needs tires Paint is weak Convertible top is original Gas lid cable needs replacing - can be opened from the outside. Rust spot on lower front fender Spare tire well has soft spot Small star crack in the windshield AC not hooked up Passenger side window regulator not working Misc. maintenance The Alfa Spider is being sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. I cannot be held responsible for any errors or inaccuracies that may have been inadvertently been provided. Please have your finds in order prior to bidding. Shipping is up to the buyer to arrange. As stated, the Quad represents a wonderful opportunity for the Alfa enthusiast that is looking for a solid example at a low price. Comes with a clear Michigan title. Will need some general work/maintenance as noted in the description. The buyer should expect other normal wear and tear items to be addressed as would be expected of a 25 year old vintage sports car. Sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. I have done my best to describe the Alfa to the best of my ability, however there may be some things that I may have missed. It is up to the buyer to do due diligence when making a purchase online. Do not make any assumptions about anything. Ask any questions that may not have been addressed. I am not responsible for any errors or erroneous misinformation. I will be adding more pictures within the next few days. For the motivated buyer, I will consider ending the auction early for a serious offer. "NO RESERVE AUCTION" The fine print: If you have 5 or less feedback transactions, you must contact me prior to bidding. A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end. If the deposit is not received, the Alfa will be offered to the next highest bidder. The balance is due within 7 days of the auction end date. The car must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date. A $10.00 per day storage fee will be charged after the 10 days unless prior arrangements have been made. I have sold several vintage cars to overseas buyers with the buyers being extremely pleased with the sale. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. |

Scrapyard Gem: 1999 Alfa Romeo 166, Screwball Rally Edition
Sat, Mar 16 2024SHERBURN-IN-ELMET, England — Alfa Romeo took a break from selling new cars in the United States after 1995, when the final Spider Veloces and 164s were sold here. That beat Fiat and Lancia (both of which departed after 1982), but still deprived us of the Alfa 164's handsome successor: the 166. The easiest way to find discarded 166s is to cross the Atlantic, so that's what I did recently. I've been spending a lot of time in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in recent years, being the descendant of immigrants from that tiny but proud nation, and there are still quite a few 166s prowling the streets of Luxembourg City. Despite their reputation for unreliability and horrifically rapid depreciation, the 166 looks so good that I remain tempted to ship one home. The facelifted model in the photo above had its debut as a 2003 model and thus won't be legal in the United States until 2028, but the first-year '99s shouldn't raise any U.S. Customs eyebrows when you pick one up at your local port. I was hoping to shoot plenty of interesting Italian iron during my trip to the scrapyards of Yorkshire in January, so I headed over to Sherburn Motor Spares, located on the very land in Sherburn-in-Elmet where the famous Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers of Bismarck-crippling fame were built. This yard specialises in Italian and French cars; it's what we'd call a dismantler in the United States, so customers aren't allowed to pull their own parts unless they get permission beforehand. There's a nice little breakfast joint located just out front, which was welcome on a below-freezing Yorkshire morning, and the employees are very friendly (though a bit difficult to understand if you come from anywhere else in the English-speaking world). Inside, you'll find plenty of Alfa Romeos, Fiats, Peugeots, Citroens, Renaults and even a few Toyota MR2s; I spotted an extremely rare Alfa Romeo Brera S, which was one of a mere 500 built. Cars rust quickly and inspections are rigorous in England, so I didn't see many machines built prior to our current century. Well back in one of the rows, however, was this first-year 166 done up in some kind of racing livery. The cars were packed and stacked so closely that I wasn't able to get great photos of this car, but Sherburn Motor Spares has included some pre-stacking photos in their eBay store.
FCA is setting a five-year strategy: Here's how the last one played out
Thu, May 31 2018We're slightly more than four years removed from Sergio Marchionne last five-year plan for FCA, a tell-all where the Italian-American automaker divulged its plans for the 2014 through 2018 model years. It was a grand affair, where Sergio told FCA investors that all was right in Auburn Hills, Alfa Romeo and Maserati were making comebacks, and the fifth-gen Dodge Viper received a mid-cycle refresh. You can read every last one of those past predictions right here. We're on our way to Europe to see Sergio's sequel, coming out Friday straight from FCA's Italian headquarters. (Bloomberg reports a plan to expand Jeep and Ram globally, combine Alfa Romeo and Maserati into a single division for an eventual spinoff, and downsizing Fiat and Chrysler. Also, EVs.) But before we arrive in Italy and find out exactly what Marchionne has planned for 2019 through 2023 as his last act as CEO, let's take a minute to tally up the results of his last term based on the same scoresheet we used in 2014. Now, we're only five months into 2018, so much of this — including vehicles like the Ram HD and Jeep Grand Wagoneer — could still debut this year. For those, we'll mark things TBD. We're not going to draw any conclusions or make any objectionable remarks. We're simply going to let the stats speak for themselves.
Alfa Romeo to unveil Tonale at the Geneva Motor Show
Mon, Mar 4 2019Alfa Romeo is bringing a new model to the Geneva Motor Show, and it's likely to be called the Tonale. This is as much as we know so far. The Tonale, the name of which is currently being propped onto the stage in Geneva, is expected to be a small SUV. But the vehicle's basis is being hotly debated right before it's scheduled to be revealed. The compact SUV was also spied on the show floor right now, and the photo leak ran on the "Masera" Facebook page. First seen with its daytime running lights glowing under the wraps, then completely uncovered, the Tonale seems to have a sharp, yet curvy design, with aggressive front detailing. Based on earlier information, we're also expecting the Tonale to be available as a plug-in hybrid. Earlier information called the compact SUV to be based on FCA's Small Wide platform, with Automotive News saying it's likely to be sharing technology with the Jeep Compass, which is expected to be built in Italy in the near future. Later on, a Greek site called AutoBlog.gr (no relation) theorized that the new SUV would be built on the Giorgio platform instead, which would make it more of a true Alfa Romeo and a scaled-down Stelvio instead. As Carscoops says, the Tonale name comes from a mountain pass not quite as tall as the Stelvio Pass. The size and dimensions of the spied Tonale could make it likely to ride on Small Wide, or the long-wheelbase version of the platform, as the Small Wide platform (in several variants) underpins both the Renegade, Compass, and both the Fiat 500X and 500L, just with different lengths. The overhangs, especially the front, are longer than on Jeeps, but for it to run on a cut-down Giorgio might be a stretch. Related Video:
