I did have this car running and driving fine last year. When it is running it is tons of fun. It has manual steering and a manual transmission. It's very light and quick, which makes driving it fun. As described below, it needs a bit of work to get it back to running order, but it would be a good project car. I also have a shop manual and a general alfa romeo owners book that I will give the new owner too. Over all it is in good shape. A 1982 Alfa Romeo Spider Convertible. The engine runs, but I think that the clutch needs to be replaced. The last time I drove it (Early May) the engine was running, but when I tried to shift into first gear the engine would die. Last summer I had had all electric contacts in the engine bay burnished, the fuel pump replaced, and the crank timers replaced.. The rear window is split, but the rest of the roof is in good shape. I think that the muffler has a hole in it, because the exhaust is very loud. I'm pretty sure that replacing the muffler will fix the problem. The only gauge that works is the tachometer. The speedometer, fuel gauge, and temp gauges don't work. The last owner added a new stereo and speakers. Steering wheel was also refinished by previous owner. Interior is in good shape, some minor dents and paint chips on the front and back. As far as I know, the car has always been stored inside for winter, so there is very little rust. Alfa Romeo abandoned the Spider to focus on crossovers
Wed, Sep 7 2016As much as enthusiasts like to forget or deny it, automakers are in the business of making money, and sometimes that means doing things that seem counter to a brand's image or history. Alfa Romeo, for example, is attempting to make a comeback in the US. The make has a long history of making sporty vehicles, so news that Alfa has ceased plans on some new cars in order to focus on crossovers should be disappointing, but far from surprising. The new Fiat 124 Spider, based on and build alongside the Mazda Miata, was originally supposed to be a new Alfa Romeo Spider. A while back, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne has said that as long as he's in charge, Alfas will be built in Italy. That seemed to be reasoning enough for the new car's switch to Fiat, but Automotive News is reporting that the company actually abandoned the new Spider in order to build SUVs. The Spider isn't the only vehicle that appears to be off the table. While the new BMW 3 Series-sized Giulia is set to hit dealers later this year, larger sedans meant to compete against the 5 Series and 6 Series have been axed. Alfa's first crossover, the Stelvio, is expected to debut later this year. The company has plans for a Giulia-based crossover as well. A lot of this seems counter to Alfa and FCA's five-year plan that was announced fewer than three years ago. Then, the 400,000 annual sales target worldwide by 2018 powered by Italian-designed and -built engines. In actuality, the company has struggled to get even the Giulia to market, delaying everything else in its wake. Related Video:
Alfa Romeo Stelvio CUV to debut at 2016 LA Auto Show
Fri, Mar 4 2016America loves crossovers. Alfa Romeo wants to succeed in America. So it only makes sense that the troubled Italian automaker will introduce its first ever CUV on American soil. That's per a report from Australia's Motoring, which claims we'll clap eyes on the Stelvio for the first time this November in Los Angeles. The news was announced by Alfa Romeo and Maserati boss Harald Wester, who said it'd be a late fall debut, according to Motoring. That almost certainly means the mid-November to-do in LA. "We will have an additional product in the [CUV] segment with the new Alfa, to be presented in late Autumn this year, and for the time being there are no plans for Maserati to further extend our range downwards in the more compact SUV segment," Wester told Motoring. The Stelvio – the name was confirmed by FCA boss Sergio Marchionne last month and comes from the iconic Italian pass and the snaking road attached to it – will be based on the Giulia's rear-wheel-drive platform, and will be offered in both two- and four-wheel drive versions. Like the Giulia, there will be both four- and six-cylinder options, which according to the Aussies will include a high-performance Quadrifoglio Verde model. Related Video:
