Previous owner (I'm the third), a keeper of several Alfas, owned this since 1998 and maintained it extremely well. Lead Mechanic Paul at Alfa specialists DiFatta Brothers in Baltimore says that the motor looks so clean that you'd think it had been replaced. This is a seriously nice Q. The car has absolutely no rust; it had been a southern MO car and I don't drive it on wet roads. Within the last 16K miles, the PO had the valve guides, engine wiring harness, and clutch assy replaced, and the flywheel resurfaced . Since I bought the car 9K miles ago, I replaced the suspension incl new Koni yellows (done by DiFatta), upgraded the radiator with DiFatta's custom all-metal oversized radiator, replaced the tired/partially-shrunk inst cluster hood with a new-old-stock hood, replaced the stock headlights with the Bosch and the stock airbag with the Euro style. PO installed gorgeous-sounding ANSA exhaust. Unplanned maintenance consisted of the replacement of the crank trigger sensor and the air flow meter. Receipts available. This car runs beautifully and needs absolutely no mechanical work. The engine will outlast me, no doubt. T-belt was done at 88K miles in Nov 2009. I planned on having it done next year. Seats are in excellent condition. Not perfect of course, but great for 19 years old. What does not work or is not perfect: The sunroof has the common issue that only allows it to go about 1/2 the way back (more than that it will bind). It pops up and down fine. The LCD doesn't work. The airbag is disabled (apparently); I removed the dash light. Could use new door speakers, though at volumes which allow you to still hear the engine, they're fine to my non-audiophile ears. I'll leave the speaker replacement to the buyer as he or she would know what they want. Seat heaters don't work. Easy enough to fix if you care (you would replace them).Cosmetic defects: small vertical crease near front of driver's door (see final pic – Zenders not included unfortunately). A few minor paint chips that were touched up previously (Ford Cardinal Red is a perfect match for the car's red; if I were keeping the car, I'd eventually take care of those myself). Stock wheels have some brake dust corrosion but not too bad. I'll add close-ups of those. I can give permission for those seriously interested to talk to Paul at DiFatta about the car. He will certainly confirm that this is a seriously nice car in all the important ways. There aren't a lot of Qs and this is one of the very nice ones. The 24V engine is easily the sweetest engine I've ever experienced. Amazing on the freeway; the best all-around car I've ever owned (and I've owned nearly thirty cars; with a minivan now in the family I no longer need an all-around car so am jumping into GTV6s). I had a V8 SHO at one time. On paper it has the same numbers as the Q but the tactile feel of each is worlds apart. I really enjoyed the SHO but the Q is on a totally different level. From what I'm told, a Q will also quickly leave a 12V 164 far behind on the highway. These are the cars being discontinued for 2024 and beyond
Fri, Jun 21 2024While we get new and updated car models every year, its inevitable that we'll need to say goodbye to some nameplates as well. This time around, it feels like we have confirmation or reports of an unusually large number of vehicles being discontinued in 2024 and the coming years. We shouldn't be surprised. A large number of automakers are approaching their various target dates for electrification of their fleets. As such, some beloved internal combustion cars are going away, sometimes with appropriate fanfare like special editions. Others are slinking away quietly, killed by slowing sales and changing consumer trends. Of course, the end of production doesn't necessarily mean permanent death. Some of these models could be resurrected in later years ... and probably as an EV. With that in mind, here are the vehicles that are being discontinued in 2024 and beyond.  Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Alfa Romeo ended the production of its combustion-only Quadrifoglio models in April 2024 as the Italian automaker moves toward an electrified future. This isn't the end of the Quadrifoglio entirely, though, with Larry Dominique, Alfa Romeo senior vice president and head of North America, writing, "I look forward to presenting the next chapter in the four-leaf clover’s journey."  Chevrolet Camaro GM is ending production of the Chevy Camaro after 2024, but is sending it off in style with a CollectorÂ’s Edition. WouldnÂ’t it be cool, though, if Chevy brought it back as an EV?  Chevrolet Malibu Rumors of its demise have been around for a while, but now itÂ’s official. GM will end production of the Chevy Malibu in November of 2024. The assembly line in Kansas will be retooled to build the replacement for the Chevy Bolt.  Dodge Durango The three-row Durango is slated to be replaced by the Stealth nameplate after 2024. The Durango name could make a comeback later, according to rumors, on a body-on frame SUV based on the Jeep WagoneerÂ’s platform.  Ford Edge This is the last year for the Edge in the U.S., with the final unit rolling off the assembly line in April. On sale since 2007, the Edge topped 100,000 sales in all but three full years of production.  Ford Escape Newly refreshed for the 2023 model year, FordÂ’s popular Escape compact SUV is reportedly taking its leave in 2025 in order to usher in — you guessed it — an EV in its place.
CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over

After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.
Alfa Romeo range-topping sports car confirmed for 2023 debut
Fri, Aug 19 2022Alfa Romeo's on-again, off-again range-topping sports car is back in the pipeline. Company boss Jean-Philippe Imparato confirmed that a two-door flagship is on track to make its debut in 2023 as a concept whose exterior design will draw inspiration from historic models. "You will see something in that field in terms of sportiness in the first half of 2023. We use one word to define the brand, and it's 'sportiness,'" the executive told British magazine Autocar. He's previously voiced his support for bringing back the dormant GTV and Duetto nameplates. Imparato added that the yet-unnamed model will borrow styling cues from the Tipo 33, though he didn't specify which version of the car he has in mind. Alfa raced several evolutions of the Tipo 33 from 1966 to 1977, and it sold 18 units of a Franco Scaglione-designed supercar with a mid-mounted engine called 33 Stradale (pictured) between 1967 and 1969. We're guessing it's the latter that will provide inspiration. Numerous points remain up in the air, like what will power the car. "For the moment, I have two scenarios: full ICE or full EV," he revealed to Autocar. Regardless, the model "will be very exciting, very selective, and very expensive." It sounds like production will be limited. We're about four months away from 2023, so we won't have to wait long to discover the concept that Alfa Romeo is working on. Executives have toyed with the idea of adding a sportier model to the range for several years, but they have never pulled the trigger. Imparato explained in 2021 that the brand wouldn't release another two-door car until it increased its sales in more mainstream segments of the market. What's changed since then is unclear; the Tonale unveiled in February 2022 is the only new Alfa Romeo released since. (A Dodge Hornet badge-engineered version of the Tonale was revealed this week.) Traveling further back, in 2018 former Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) boss Sergio Marchionne announced that the 8C and GTV names would make a comeback on a pair of coupes. The former was presented as having a carbon fiber chassis and 700 horsepower thanks to a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain built around a mid-mounted turbocharged V6. The latter was also planned as a hybrid, but it would have offered drivers 600 horsepower, and a sketch made it look like a two-door version of the Giulia sedan. Both cars were canned by 2019.
