1975 Alfa Gtv: Excellent Mechanicals, Very Strong And Reliable on 2040-cars
New York, New York, United States
1975 ALFA GTV 2000 Last chance to buyone of my favorite cars for a great price before I decide to keep it myself and build a GTAm Replica! (see last pic below) RECENTLY FEATURED ON /DRIVE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddmRJ4rxTxw&feature=share&list=PLHa6PXrV-yIjVxqIG9Oj2SbqtYvf8R0f4 FF>> TO 24:40 We have owned this Alfa for six years and in that time have gone through all the mechanicals to make it a tight, fast and reliable classic that you can get in, turn the key and go. One of the best cornering and braking classic sports cars I have ever driven and it is an absolute blast to drive. First, to clarify it's history. It is a 1975.... I know, they stopped selling GTVs in the US in 1974 and this has small tail lights that they never sold on US cars. That's because it started life as a Euro 1975 Alfa GT 1300 Junior. The later Juniors was nearly identical to the GTV 2000 with the exception of smaller tail lights, smaller brakes and a 4:55 rear differential ratio. I recently spoke to the italian gentleman who imported the car (two owners before me) and converted it to the 2000 (1962 cc) motor with side draft Weber DCOE 40 carburetors. When we got it, it still had the 4:55 gears, which were fun for when you wanted to race away from a stoplight, but left the car running out of revs at about 70 mph. We changed the rear-end to a 4:11 LSD from a later spyder, it cruises well on the highway now and I believe we still have the rare in the US 4:55 gears in our shop. You can read more about the background of the models that confirms this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_105/115_Series_Coup%C3%A9s I listed it as a 1974 since with US sales ending in 1974, no one would find the car if I listed it as a 1975... anyway, I hope that explains it and sorry for the confusion. Now... on to the car itself. In our tenure with the car, we have added / improved the following - International Auto Parts, red, performance springs and sway bars - Bilstein Shocks - Poly Bushings - Crossed Drilled, larger GTV 2000 Rotors and performance Pads - 2.25" Stainless Alfa BB / Magnaflow Exhaust http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/anything-about-alfa-romeos-alfabb-com/27686-magnaflow-exhaust-systems-have-arrived.html - 4:11 LSD rear end - Rebuilt Motor (runs great and has strong oil pressure) - Electronic Ignition with quality wires and stonger coil - Rebuilt, tuned and balanced the Webers - Replaced the trans with a lower-miles one that has very minimal 2nd syncro issues - Repainted it and removed the bumpers (more on that below and I'm sorry, I no longer have the bumpers) As I said at the start, with the above improvements and refreshing, the car runs and drives fantastically. I had it sitting for three months on one of our stacking lifts recently and other than the battery draining the car started right up with little effort. It drives straight and true, handles beautifully and stops on a dime. What is lacking a bit is the cosmetics. A few years back, while I wasn't looking to do a restoration, I had a few minor cosmetics and a body-shop that was desperate to show us what they could do. They convinced me to let them "restore" the car while addressing the minor cosmetics it had and I let them as an opportunity to show me what they can do. Unfortunately, that was a mistake. While the car looked great for about a year, soon, bubbles started cracking through on the lower rockers / fender corners where I hadn't even had any issue previously and a hole formed in the driver's floor. Both issues, particularly the floor are a relatively easy fix although the rockers / fenders will take a bit more effort. There are also some other minor cosmetics showng in the pics towards the end (nicks, small dents in the rear a cracked tail light lens, etc..) I don't have much time to get involved with bodywork, so I figured I would try to sell it as-is, but if it doesn't sell in this auction, i'm going to keep it, get GTAm Replica wide-body fenders and sent it off over the winter to be transformed (see last pic below). The bodywork is unfortunate, especially since the paint and the car overall look stunning, but it is what it is. The only other thing I would want to address if I kept he car would be to get new front tires.. I just hadn't decide yet if I was happy with the tire size as is or if I'd want to go to something wider and change all four. While there are some cosmetics to be tackled, this is a GTV that you can get in and enjoy today with little work. This is an opportunity to pick up a great, strong running car for a great price and take the cosmetics in whichever direction you most prefer. I have set a very low reserve and will consider offers to end the auction early, but like I said, if it doesn't sell by the end of the auction, it's off to the body shop and I'm keeping it. Don't miss your chance! Bid or Call me today to make a deal! If you have any questions, please call Zac at 212.229.2402 or 646.331.8224 This car is being offered by Classic Car Club Manhattan. Classic car club is a members club where a select group of members join to share access to a fleet of cars. The fleet is curated and maintained by our staff. All regular maintenance is performed by our professional staff and the cars are check-listed and topped off, literally every time they hit the road. While cars like this do accumulate some miles, they are also meticulously maintained throughout their time on the road. |

2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Luggage Test | Time for an Italian vacation
Fri, Jul 24 2020When it comes to handling and being fun to drive, the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia is right at the top. From its engaging and tossable Ti trim, to the totally bonkers Quadrifoglio, Alfa Romeo has some excellent options for those who love to drive. However, we aren’t exploring 0-60 mph times or steering feel today, so letÂ’s see how the Italian sedan holds up when it comes to suitcase stacking. Alfa Romeo doesnÂ’t list an official trunk capacity on its media website or its consumer-facing site, but itÂ’s very similar in size to the last luxury sedan I luggage tested: the 2020 Volvo S60. WeÂ’ll place the estimate to be around 12 cubic-feet. Just by eye-balling it, Alfa appears to be on the smaller side of the spectrum here, with its competition being the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and several others. Note that I use different equipment than Riswick out in Portland: Two carry-on suitcases sized (24 inches long, 15.5 wide, 10 deep); one carry-on suitcase (21.7L x 13.7W x 9 D); one medium-size suitcase you have to check (24.5L x 16.8W x 11.5D) and two larger, full-size suitcases (33.8L x 21.5W x 13D) and (28.1L x 18W x 10.5D). It's not a power trunk, but you can pop it via the fob, a button by the driver footwell or a button on the trunk itself. Once open, I started with the carry-on suitcases. All three of those fit when turned on their sides, but a fourth would be impossible to squeeze in using that formation. ThatÂ’s due to the GiuliaÂ’s trunk becoming more restrictive in both depth and width deeper inside of it. YouÂ’ll notice the curved intrusions at the back of the trunk pictured below. They make shoving a suitcase all the way back in there impossible, as there isnÂ’t enough space next to the other three suitcases. The opening itself is rather small, too, forcing me to contort the suitcases as I lay them in. Instead, I decided to stick the fancy bag (22L x 8.8W x 12D) in there. ItÂ’s smaller and better suited to the space that remains, fitting perfectly within that nook. ThatÂ’s not ideal, but plenty of room for two people on a longer getaway. Next up: full-size suitcases. One of them fit right in without issue, but the second full-sizer I use for testing would not. Once again, this is due to the width restrictions imposed by the trunk walls coming in on both sides at the back. I did manage to fit the medium-size suitcase next to the one full-sizer if both were turned on an angle.
B.A.T. Alfa Trinity, some of the world's most famous concept cars, are up for auction
Fri, Oct 16 2020Of the cars that never saw production, there are a handful that nevertheless have had an outsized influence. Among the most famous are the wild Berlinetta Aerodynamica Technica (B.A.T.) concepts commissioned by Alfa Romeo in the mid-1950s. Three B.A.T. Alfas were created by Italy's Bertone design house and were unveiled at succeeding Turin auto shows in 1953, '54, and '55. The cars are now coming up for auction for the first time as a group at RM Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Auction in New York on October 28. The first of the trio was B.A.T. 5, which like its successors was built on the Alfa 1900 Sprint production chassis. The goal of the B.A.T. 5 was aerodynamic efficiency, and the car boasted a cD of 0.23. Aiding the cause were covered front wheels, a greenhouse with steeply curved side glass, and twin tail fins. The second concept was B.A.T. 7, from 1954. It has the wildest styling of the trio, with sharply curved tail fins. It also has the lowest drag coefficient, at 0.19. B.A.T. 9, from 1955, was the most production-feasible of the group. It features an Alfa Romeo shield grille at the front and exposed headlights with clear covers. All three are credited to Franco Scaglione, working with Nuccio Bertone. They were seen together for the first time at the 1989 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. They would appear together again at Pebble Beach in 2005 and at Bertone's 80th-anniversary celebration in 1992. The cars were acquired by a single owner sometime after their first Pebble Beach appearance. The ability to acquire all three at once is part of what makes this an extraordinary opportunity. The B.A.T. Alfas are being sold as a single lot and are expected to bring between $14 million and $20 million.
Stellantis expects to hit emissions target without Tesla's help
Tue, May 4 2021Franco-Italian carmaker Stellantis expects to achieve its European carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions targets this year without environmental credits bought from Tesla, its CEO said in an interview published on Tuesday. Stellantis was formed through the merger of France's PSA and Italy's FCA, which spent about 2 billion euros ($2.40 billion) to buy European and U.S. CO2 credits from electric vehicle maker Tesla over the 2019-2021 period. "With the electrical technology that PSA brought to Stellantis, we will autonomously meet carbon dioxide emission regulations as early as this year," Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares said in the interview with French weekly Le Point. "Thus, we will not need to call on European CO2 credits and FCA will no longer have to pool with Tesla or anyone." California-based Tesla earns credits for exceeding emissions and fuel economy standards and sells them to other automakers that fall short. European regulations require all car manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions for private vehicles to an average of 95 grams per kilometer this year. A Stellantis spokesman said the company is in discussions with Tesla about the financial implications of the decision to stop the pooling agreement. "As a result of the combination of Groupe PSA and FCA, Stellantis will be in a position to achieve CO2 targets in Europe for 2021 without open passenger car pooling arrangements with other automakers," he added. Tesla's sales of environmental credits to rival automakers helped it to announce slightly better than expected first-quarter revenue this week. The next tightening of European regulations will soon be the subject of proposals from the European Commission. The 2030 target could be lowered to less than 43 grams/km.
