We have owned this Alfa for six years and in that time have gone through all the mechanicals to make it a tight, fast and reliable classic that you can get in, turn the key and go. One of the best cornering and braking classic sports cars I have ever driven and it is an absolute blast to drive.

First, to clarify it's history. It is a 1975.... I know, they stopped selling GTVs in the US in 1974 and this has small tail lights that they never sold on US cars. That's because it started life as a Euro 1975 Alfa GT 1300 Junior. The later Juniors was nearly identical to the GTV 2000 with the exception of smaller tail lights, smaller brakes and a 4:55 rear differential ratio. I recently spoke to the italian gentleman who imported the car (two owners before me) and converted it to the 2000 (1962 cc) motor with side draft Weber DCOE 40 carburetors. When we got it, it still had the 4:55 gears, which were fun for when you wanted to race away from a stoplight, but left the car running out of revs at about 70 mph. We changed the rear-end to a 4:11 LSD from a later spyder, it cruises well on the highway now and I believe we still have the rare in the US 4:55 gears in our shop.

You can read more about the background of the models that confirms this here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_105/115_Series_Coup%C3%A9s

I listed it as a 1974 since with US sales ending in 1974, no one would find the car if I listed it as a 1975... anyway, I hope that explains it and sorry for the confusion.

Now... on to the car itself. In our tenure with the car, we have added / improved the following
- International Auto Parts, red, performance springs and sway bars
- Bilstein Shocks
- Poly Bushings
- Crossed Drilled, larger GTV 2000 Rotors and performance Pads
- 2.25" Stainless Alfa BB / Magnaflow Exhaust
http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/anything-about-alfa-romeos-alfabb-com/27686-magnaflow-exhaust-systems-have-arrived.html
- 4:11 LSD rear end
- Rebuilt Motor (runs great and has strong oil pressure)
- Electronic Ignition with quality wires and stonger coil
- Rebuilt, tuned and balanced the Webers
- Replaced the trans with a lower-miles one that has very minimal 2nd syncro issues
- Repainted it and removed the bumpers (more on that below and I'm sorry, I no longer have the bumpers)

As I said at the start, with the above improvements and refreshing, the car runs and drives fantastically. I had it sitting for three months on one of our stacking lifts recently and other than the battery draining the car started right up with little effort. It drives straight and true, handles beautifully and stops on a dime. What is lacking a bit is the cosmetics.

A few years back, while I wasn't looking to do a restoration, I had a few minor cosmetics and a body-shop that was desperate to show us what they could do. They convinced me to let them "restore" the car while addressing the minor cosmetics it had and I let them as an opportunity to show me what they can do. Unfortunately, that was a mistake. While the car looked great for about a year, soon, bubbles started cracking through on the lower rockers / fender corners where I hadn't even had any issue previously and a hole formed in the driver's floor. Both issues, particularly the floor are a relatively easy fix although the rockers / fenders will take a bit more effort. There are also some other minor cosmetics showng in the pics towards the end (nicks, small dents in the rear a cracked tail light lens, etc..) I don't have much time to get involved with bodywork, so I figured I would try to sell it as-is, but if it doesn't sell in this auction, i'm going to keep it, get GTAm Replica wide-body fenders and sent it off over the winter to be transformed (see last pic below). The bodywork is unfortunate, especially since the paint and the car overall look stunning, but it is what it is.

The only other thing I would want to address if I kept he car would be to get new front tires.. I just hadn't decide yet if I was happy with the tire size as is or if I'd want to go to something wider and change all four.

While there are some cosmetics to be tackled, this is a GTV that you can get in and enjoy today with little work. This is an opportunity to pick up a great, strong running car for a great price and take the cosmetics in whichever direction you most prefer. I have set a very low reserve and will consider offers to end the auction early, but like I said, if it doesn't sell by the end of the auction, it's off to the body shop and I'm keeping it. Don't miss your chance! Bid or Call me today to make a deal!

Fri, Jun 23 2023

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor James Riswick. They start the show by talking about the cars they've been driving. James took a road trip to Oregon in a Honda Pilot TrailSport, bringing along a Gazelle Ultimate 380+ e-bike. James also fell in love with an Alfa Romeo Giulia Lusso, while Greg enjoyed an executive experience in the new BMW 760i. Next, they discuss which car they'd buy in 1985 with a budget of $18,000, as well as their pick for a contemporary pickup truck for $50,000. They also interview Tyson Hugie, who purchased a 2006 Acura TSX from James and restored it. Finally, they open the mailbag for an update from a listener about a previous Spend My Money segment. 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio Drivers' Notes Review | Everything you expect

Thu, Nov 8 2018

The 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a performance crossover that goes head-to-head with models like the Porsche Macan and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S. It takes the Giulia's 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 and stuffs it into a slightly more practical package. Crossovers are all the rage, and Alfa needs the Stelvio to be a hit if the brand has any hope of success in America. Performance models like this don't come cheap, but you get what you pay for. In addition to the performance parts like a torque-vectoring differential, Brembo brakes and 20-inch wheels with Pirelli summer tires, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio comes standard with features like blind-spot monitoring, a Harman Kardon sound system, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. Options on this car include $2,200 for the Rosso Competizione paint and $1,500 for a drivers assistance package. Update: CarPlay and Android Auto are standard equipment. The listed price on our tester's window sticker was an error. Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: I've been skeptical about the Stelvio. Aside from the famous Scudetto grille, what really makes this an Alfa — a good one, anyway? Eyeing them on the road I've been less than impressed. They look like generic crossovers, which is not the vibe Alfa should be giving off. Enter the Quadrifoglio. The 505-hp twin-turbo V6 makes the Stelvio addicting to drive. The 20-inch wheels with Alfa's signature five-hole design under the flared fenders propel this thing to style leadership. Factor in the four-leaf clover badges, and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio looks and feels special. Driving it is a riot. The interior feels legitimately athletic, too. The big, thin steering wheel with the start button and paddle shifters integrated in front of the driver do create a cockpit-like setting. Add in the leather, red stitching and carbon fiber, and it's a cool place to drive. After an energetic commute to the office, my thinking on the Stelvio had changed. Yes, I like the Quadrifoglio, but I can now see this Italian crossover as a compelling alternative in this segment. Wasn't sure how I felt about the @AlfaRomeoUSA Stelvio. But 505 horses convinced me of its merits. Liking this lab hauler in Quadrifoglio spec. @therealautoblog pic.twitter.com/sSUyOS8iY0 — Greg Migliore (@GregMigliore) November 1, 2018 Associate Editor Reese Counts: What a mixed bag. I really wanted to love the Stelvio.

Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition marks a day we never thought we'd see

Thu, Apr 17 2014

Alfa Romeo has been teasing its return to the United States for years. Each time, it's seemingly been pushed back for one reason or another. The last time we had our Alfa fix fulfilled was when just a few hundred examples of the 8C Competizione crossed the pond late last decade. Now, though, it looks like finally Alfa will be coming back, showing this, the 4C Launch Edition, at the 2014 New York Auto Show. By now, you should know the brief on the 4C – ultra-lightweight, mid-engined, turbocharged and with non-power-assisted steering. It's a driving instrument, and one we've admired from afar since it hit the European market. The 4C Launch Edition is the opening volley of Alfa's US return and adds a number of items to the already appealing sports car. The 500 Launch Editions will be limited to three colors - Alfa Red, Rosso Competizione or Madreperla White. It sports standard bi-xenon headlamps, which do away with the polarizing covers that highlighted European models. A carbon-fiber spoiler and mirror caps and unique forged wheels round out the changes for first US-spec 4Cs. The suspension is firmer, with performance-tuned shocks and stiffer front and rear sway bars. Meanwhile, a racing exhaust should help the turbocharged, four-cylinder engine make its presence known. It doesn't seem like the power output is changing thanks to the new exhaust, although we're expecting the 4C's already throaty warble will sound even better. You can take a look up top for our full gallery of live images of the new 4C or you can scroll down and take a look at the official press release from Alfa Romeo. Then, hop into the Comments and let us know if you think of the latest Alfa to be sold in the US.
