2021 Acura TLX 2.0T begins production, but the Type S will have to wait

The 2021 Acura TLX is officially rolling off the assembly line in Marysville, Ohio. This marks the beginning of a new generation for the Acura, which promises to be “the quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed sport sedan in the brandÂ’s 35-year history.” Heady words, considering the brand has produced many impressive sedans over the past few decades. Both the standard TLX and the TLX Type S will be made alongside each other, and the engines lurking within will be assembled nearby in Anna, Ohio. Only the standard TLX with the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder will be available initially, but the Type S and its 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 will arrive next spring.  2021 Acura TLX Advance View 22 Photos The new TLX will join a number of other Hondas and Acuras that are currently built in Ohio — the previous TLX was made here, too. One new development Acura is especially proud of is the TLXÂ’s new laser brazed roof. ItÂ’s a new process for Acura that allows the roof to be seamlessly joined with the side panels. We say seamless, because thatÂ’s literally how it looks. Acura says thereÂ’s no need for a garnish over the rain channels to cover up a seam. These new sedans will be available at dealers on September 28. We have full pricing information for all but the Type S models. The TLX ranges from $38,525 for a base 2.0T, to $47,325 for a fully-loaded version. Pricing isnÂ’t final for the Type S, but Acura says to expect a price above $50,000. It wonÂ’t be long until we get our hands on a new TLX, so watch for first impressions of AcuraÂ’s new sedan soon.

Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] The first 2017 Acura NSX rolled off the assembly line this week in Marysville, Ohio. Marking the return of the iconic supercar. VIN #001 went to Nascar Owner Rick Handpick. He paid $1.2M at auction for the first NSX. The proceeds went to charity. The 2017 NSX uses a twin turbo V6 teamed with three electric motors to make a total of 573-hp and 476-lb.ft of torque. The supercar also runs a nine speed dual clutch transmission and AWD. The starting price is $157,800 but you can option this thing out to well over $200k. Ford Motor Company applied this month to get the rights to the trademark for the word Zephyr. Lincoln is using some real names again aside from these MKC and MKX things that don't mean a lot to the general public. The Navigator is going strong and a new one comes on next year. Plus it brought back the Continental which was a well revived move. So Zephyr should ring a bell it was used in the 1930s and 40s, it was also used a little less memorably in 2006 on a Lincoln model that was essentially a rebadged Ford Fusion. 2014 Acura RLX gets trick hybrid all-wheel drive system for LA

Acura has endured a year of mixed reviews and middling sales for its new RLX flagship. Meanwhile, the Japanese automaker has been readying what may be the very best version of the car for its debut. Now the wait is almost over, as Acura will show its 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD at this year's LA Auto Show.
When it comes to dealerships in the spring of 2014, the RLX Hybrid will be the most powerful production car Acura has ever sold. The combination of a 3.5-liter V6 and three electric motors - a 35-kilowatt motor pushing torque to the front wheels and two 27-kW units feeding the rears - creates a total system output of 377 horsepower.
Those rear-end electric motors do more than just add power, they also drive the rear wheels without a traditional rear drive shaft and differential. This newest iteration of the Super Handling-All Wheel Drive calls upon the two rear motors to both drive and brake the rear wheels, vectoring torque in cornering situations for additional grip. All three electric motors make use of regenerative braking to feed electricity back into the system's 260-volt lithium-ion battery pack.
