| Acura's MDX is a mid-size utility vehicle and comes powered by a strong 3.7L V6 engine, making 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. With its 6-speed automatic transmission, the MDX provides strong acceleration, good responsiveness for passing and smooth shifts for more leisurely driving. A tall sixth gear assures relatively quiet cruising. Acura's so-called Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system is standard on the MDX. As a full-time all-wheel drive system, it can fine-tune the amount of torque not only between the front and rear but also from side to side. It also works with the stability control system to help provide added security when handling, or in snow or mud. The MDX is just rugged enough for two-tracks and modest forest trails, but its forte is on-road performance. Its front MacPherson strut suspension and multi-link rear suspension are carlike in concept, but they're mounted on isolated subframes to filter out the most jarring impacts. Crisp rack-and-pinion steering provides good maneuverability, with strong 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes rounding out the package. An Active Damper System is optional on the MDX and brings driver-selectable Comfort and Sport settings. The MDX's interior is truly worthy of its luxury badge, with upscale trims, nice leather upholstery, LED interior lighting all around and plenty of sound insulation to filter out road noise. There are three rows of seating, for up to seven passengers; front seats are long-distance comfortable, with the second row also adult-sized, though the third rows are good for a couple of kids. This 2012 MDX has the Technology Package which adds a long list of exactly what the name implies--impressive tech features--including a navigation system, voice recognition, real-time traffic with traffic rerouting, hard-drive media storage, a solar-sensing tri-zone climate control system that automatically adjusts to the sun's position, and an awesome Acura/ELS surround sound system with ten speakers and 410 watts, plus DVD-Audio, Bluetooth Audio, a USB port and XM satellite radio, along with 15GB of its own music storage. It also has the Advance Package, you get the cream of the MDX's available features, with specially contoured, ventilated front seats in Milano leather, a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, auto-leveling HID headlamps, the active damper system, and upgraded 19-inch alloy wheels, plus several additional active-safety features. It also includes a collision mitigating braking system, adaptive cruise control and a blind-spot information system, all of which might help reduce the chances of a collision. Acura releases yet another NSX track teaser vid
Sat, 03 Aug 2013On Sunday, August 4th (yep, that's tomorrow), a prototype version of the all-new Acura NSX will make its public track debut ahead of the Honda 200 IndyCar race. Acura has already given us a short video snippet to enjoy, but now it's added one more to get our hearts racing just a little more.
Before you watch it, make sure your speakers or headphones are turned up, because what the low-resolution video lacks in visual quality, it more than makes up for with its audio of the NSX's exhaust screaming as the car tackles Mid-Ohio. And at the end of the video, the caption reads "watch the NSX racing prototype take a lap."
Acura isn't joking either. From what we hear, the car is expected to take one lap before the race and then disappear for the weekend. Scroll down to see and hear the NSX in action.
Acura ILX headed for Civic-like early upgrades
Wed, 12 Dec 2012The not-yet-ready-for-primetime 2012 Honda Civic saw it quickly returned to sender for refurbishment, now the Acura ILX is headed in the same direction in its very first year. Automotive News reports that the small, Civic-based sedan from Honda's luxury brand isn't meeting sales expectations, with an annualized rate of 22,000 to 24,000 sales instead of the 30,000 the company is after. More telling is that the ILX "is being outsold by the Buick Verano, Volkswagen CC and Audi A4," and, except for two months since it launched, it has also been outdone by the Acura TSX it is meant to replace.
Part of the cause has been the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine: its 150 horsepower to motivate a sedan that can weigh up to 2,970 pounds doesn't offer the kind of performance or value experience that buyers in the segment respond to. Another big issue is that the top-level 2.4-liter engine is only offered with a six-speed manual even though most buyers of the highest trim don't really want to shift their own gears. Lastly, the ILX might not put enough space between it and its frugal underpinnings - our first drive review pegged it as "the world's nicest Honda Civic."
An automatic transmission is on the way for the 2.4-liter, but it isn't clear when. And while Honda admits that the 2.0-liter is underpowered and Automotive News says it's on the way out, the company hasn't yet said how that situation will be corrected.

Marking the return of the iconic supercar. VIN #001 went to Nascar Owner Rick Handpick. He paid $1.2M at auction for the first NSX. The proceeds went to charity. The 2017 NSX uses a twin turbo V6 teamed with three electric motors to make a total of 573-hp and 476-lb.ft of torque. The supercar also runs a nine speed dual clutch transmission and AWD. The starting price is $157,800 but you can option this thing out to well over $200k. Ford Motor Company applied this month to get the rights to the trademark for the word Zephyr. Lincoln is using some real names again aside from these MKC and MKX things that don't mean a lot to the general public. The Navigator is going strong and a new one comes on next year. Plus it brought back the Continental which was a well revived move. So Zephyr should ring a bell it was used in the 1930s and 40s, it was also used a little less memorably in 2006 on a Lincoln model that was essentially a rebadged Ford Fusion.
