Honda recalls 2.23 million vehicles to replace Takata inflators

The Basics: Honda and Acura will recall 2.23 million vehicles in the US. The affected models are: 2005-2012 Acura RL 2007-2011 Honda CR-V 2007-2016 Acura RDX (early production MY 2016 vehicles only) 2007-2014 Honda Ridgeline 2009-2014 Honda Fit 2009-2014 Acura TL 2010-2014 Honda FCX Clarity 2010-2014 Honda Insight 2010-2013 Acura ZDX 2011-2015 Honda CR-Z 2013-2016 Acura ILX (early production MY 2016 vehicles only) The Problem: These vehicles have Takata's PSDI-5 airbag inflator on the driver's side, and this part could rupture if the airbag deploys. Injuries/Deaths: There are no reported ruptures of the PSDI-5 inflator in Honda or Acura vehicles. However, Takata's exploding components have links to at least 10 deaths worldwide because they can spray shrapnel at occupants. The Fix: Honda and Acura dealers will replace the inflators with parts from an alternative supplier. If You Own One: The repairs will begin this summer. Owners will receive a letter notifying them about the recall within 60 days and will get a second message when the parts are available. The company will prioritize older models in high-humidity regions first because these inflators would be most likely to rupture. More Information: Honda and Acura have now recalled 8.51 million vehicles in the US to replace their driver or passenger side inflators. This latest expansion came in the wake of a driver death from an airbag rupture in a Ford Ranger. Ford and Mazda already enlarged their safety campaigns. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also announced Audi, BMW, Daimler Vans, Mercedes-Benz, Saab, and Volkswagen would have recalls for this issue, too. 2024 Acura ZDX caught in spy photos

We've got our first look at the 2024 Acura ZDX electric luxury SUV. And as we expected, it's not following in the funky coupe-like tire tracks of its namesake. Instead, it's clearly based on the recently shown Acura Precision EV concept, albeit clearly toned down. The overall profile is pretty conventional, with a relatively upright rear hatchback. But the ZDX does still look fairly sleek with its low roof and quite long nose. And on the topic of that roof, it has the partial floating design previewed on the Precision. The ZDX's nose looks much more blunt compared to the Precision EV, which we don't think is a bad thing, as the Precision was a bit beak-y. And at the back, the rear fenders look more pronounced and the window-sill area is also pushed out further. Again, these don't seem like bad changes to us. Like the Honda Prologue, the ZDX will be based on a GM Ultium platform, likely the version underpinning the Chevy Blazer and Cadillac Lyriq. There's a wide array of motor configurations that could be offered on the ZDX. Since there will be a Type S version, we could see that one getting the Blazer EV SS's 557-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. It's hard to say if other versions will be all-wheel-drive-only, or have rear-wheel-drive or front-wheel-drive versions, since all are possible. We should know more when the SUV makes its debut in 2024. Related video:

MotorWeek remembers the 1993 Acura Legend coupe

When discussing classic Acura models, the Legend, particularly as a two-door, doesn't get brought up nearly as often as the Integra or NSX. Perhaps that's because those sporty models were brash for their time, whereas this bigger car came off as a more conservative ride. For a MotorWeek Retro Review, John Davis and crew have looked back at a 1993 Legend coupe to give us a chance to remember Acura's luxury GT. In 1993, the newly revised 3.2-liter V6 managed 230 horsepower, and this one had power routed through a six-speed manual. It also came packed with luxury features, including automatic climate control and traction control. However, the Legend turned out to be more of a comfy cruiser than an all-out sports coupe for the reviewers. MotorWeek wasn't happy with the performance through the slalom, and the shifter wasn't perfect, either. Still, this clip is a great refresher on a model that's often overlooked. Related Video:
