For sale is a 2005 Volvo XC90 AWD with a 4.4 liter engine, automatic transmission, beige (tan) leather interior, 3rd row seat (seating for 7 total occupants - has booster seat built into 2nd row center seat), factory DVD with dual headrest screens (not working - something is stuck in the DVD player unit), navigation, front and rear A/C & Heat (A/C takes a few minutes to blow cold), roof rack, aftermarket tow bar (receiver hitch). We purchased this Volvo in January of 2012 with 92,000 miles; it now has 116,000. We bought with expectation of of keeping it for a couple of years and then replacing with new minivan, which we are now in the position to do. The side molding on the drivers seat is cracked/broken (not visible in photo). Overall, the condition of the vehicle is consistent with its age and use (family vehicle. Volvo studying test of electric roads in Sweden
Tue, 27 May 2014Volvo already announced the results of a study of wireless charging using a stationary C30, and now it's embarking on a more ambitious study of wireless charging involving moving city buses. Next year, in conjunction with the Swedish Transport Association, Volvo will build a section of electric road up to 500 meters long that would use inductive charging to refill the batteries while the bus drives over it.
Right now, the company's Hyper Bus diesel hybrid has to stop to plug in and charge at the end of its route. The company is looking for a way to keep buses in service while being able to run on electric power for greater lengths of time. The new line used for the study will be called ElectriCity, and will come online in central Gothenburg sometime in 2015. There's a press release below with more information.
Watch Polestar talk about the development of its super S60
Fri, 03 May 2013Polestar is getting ready to deliver its first production car, the Volvo S60 Polestar. Letting the S60 stretch its legs, Polestar Racing driver Robert Dahlgren took the blue sedan from Barcelona, Spain to Jokkmokk, Sweden - stopping for wet-weather testing in Germany along the way.
Dahlgren narrates the journey of the "pilot project" that has 350 horsepower and around 368 pound-feet of torque, and will perhaps be the first in an era of hardcore Volvo production cars. It will go on sale in Australia this Summer, with other markets "under investigation." While we non-Aussies wait with fingers crossed, there's a video below to enjoy.
Volvo shows off 345-hp S60 and V60 Polestar
Thu, 06 Feb 2014We showed you the hot, new Volvo V60 Polestar a few months back and raved about the fact that this long-roofed family car can hit 60 miles per hour in just 4.9 seconds. Now, we're seeing it and its four-doored brother, the S60 Polestar sedan, in person for the first time.
As we told you when the V60 Polestar was unveiled, both cars are motivated by a 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-cylinder that generates 345 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, with peak twist arriving between 2,800 and 4,750. Power is channeled to a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system via a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and launch control.
Both Polestar models benefit from a suspension that features Öhlins shocks, while they ride on 20-inch "bespoke" wheels. Six-cylinder Brembo calipers clamp down on 14.6-inch rotors in front, meaning these Volvos should come to a stop as quickly as they get going.
