2001 V70 XC, All Wheel Drive. Black with black leather interior (great combo!) 111k Miles.

I am the 2nd owner of this car and bought it in 2008 with about 65k miles on it from the dealer in NYC.
I've taken care of it and improved it because I love to drive. I needed a wagon that had more space and I have a dog, so, I improved the handling and made it a really fun wagon. These engines are bullet proof and the turbo is a great feature in addition to the all wheel drive. It will go through any mountain of snow, sleet or rain... and driving in summer with the modified suspension is pretty great. I just bought an Audi S6 wagon and though I'd love to keep both, I can't, so I'm selling this with no reserve and whomever gets it...is going to get a great deal.

There is some standard wear that I'll mention below as it is almost a 13 year old car, but it drives great and I've put a lot of money into it as you'll see below as well:
- New dealer ordered/installed transmission approximately 20k miles ago (about $5,000 worth of work)
- Newish control arms were also installed when the dealer put in the transmission
- Brand new Transmission Control Module (TCM) installed and programmed LAST WEEK...which cost $1,200 (I felt it starting to go and didn't want to sell the wagon without this being done)
- Full timing-belt kit & water pump installed at 105k miles
- IPD (dealer in Portland) heavy duty front/rear sway bars (urethane bushings)
- IPD 12mm front sway bar end links (stock is 10mm) - improves the front end strength
- IPD heavy duty front upper strut mounts (the stock ones are thin and weak -- these are a great upgrade)
- Ronal 18"x8" aluminum wheels (these are fantastic, strong wheels and the brand has been around forever)
- Almost new General G-Max AS-03 245/45 ZR performance all-season tires (they have about 2,000 miles on them)
- ** I also have the original Volvo stock wheels and tires that will come with the car
- K&N air filter
- Synthetic oil and filter changed every 3,500 miles
- New front coil springs - Hepa interior air conditioning filter changed approximately 10k miles ago
- Brand new rear tail gate struts installed 2-weeks ago (one of the was weak and the door was having trouble staying up, so I replaced both of them)
- New front bumper, but there is a little scratch on the drivers side from someone that just scuffed it 2-3 weeks ago -- that really hurt when I saw it. It's a very small scuff on the inner edge, but still...
- All leather interior seating is in great condition
- CD changer stereo (The stereo sounds great...by the way)
- 3rd row seating is built into these cars, but it's never been used
- Original owners manuals in the grey, faux suede Volvo cover - 2 original keys and 1 remote door/alarm fob

I have lots of receipts for the work above including much more minor work. I'm sure there are other parts that I've installed/replaced that I'm forgetting, but you can see 27 pics of the car at this photobucket link: s175.photobucket.com/user/rockgin/slideshow/2001%20Volvo%20V70XC

Aspects of the car that are not perfect include: The sunroof has trouble sliding open because the inner frame that attaches the shade that you slide open/closed in the interior of the car is loose, but the sunroof opens upwards fine - I didn't feel like taking down the headliner to fix it...I rarely used it anyway. The stock car alarm seems to work, but sometimes a "check alarm sensor" message comes up on the dash (this wasn't a priority fix for me). The dash also flashes a tailgate open message at times too, but this is a sensor issue and the tailgate locks fine (the dealer wanted $250 just to diagnose the issue - another low priority fix). There are some minor little dings, but the black paint still shines great. The backseat passenger door inner panel is a little scatched up from my dog trying to jump out the window to get a squirrel years back. Note that the rear leather seats are in near perfect condition, since they are usually folded down. And regardless of my dog, I keep the car clean and vacuumed...

The car looks great, runs great and handles better now than when it left the factory. As I said, I wish I could keep it, since I've put so much work into it, but I don't have the space to do so. If you're near NYC and would like to look at it this weekend, I'll be in town. Please ask me any questions if anything in my description isn't clear. I'm also putting up the car for sale locally and reserve the right to take down the auction at anytime if it's been sold outside of eBay. The Volvo is being sold in AS IS CONDITION with no expressed or implied warranty. $500 is due within 24 hours of the close of the auction and the balance is to be paid in cash at pick up.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT I'LL BE OUT OF THE COUNTRY FROM 12/12 - 12/15 -- I'll have no email access during that time. The winning bidder will be able to pick up the car after 12/15.

Thanks.

Volvo pranks newest valet on the Italian Riviera

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

Being a valet on the Italian Riviera seems like a pretty sweet gig for a young guy. Not only do you get to watch beautiful people coming and going all day and night, but there's the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a plethora of exotic sports cars. Of course, being responsible for those expensive vehicles has to be pretty nerve wracking to get used to on the first day.
In a new commercial, Volvo pranks a new valet at the San Remo Casino to see how he would handle a surprise showing up on the red carpet. If the look on his face in the screenshot above doesn't show it, he's pretty shocked by what he sees. We don't want to spoil the reveal, so just watch the ad to find out. Afterward, if you're interested in the details behind how Volvo made it happen, you can check out a short, making-of documentary, here.

Volvo readying stretched next-gen S80 in lieu of 7 Series rival?

Fri, 13 Sep 2013

The debate about what direction to take perennially struggling Volvo has been raging for years. Should the Swedish marque go upscale and try to chase other European luxury brands, or should it stick to its safety-minded knitting? Should it adopt flashy new styling and a more overt performance bent, or keep it Scandinavian clean and responsible? Chinese parent brand Geely apparently has designs on making Volvo a full-fledged BMW rival - particularly in its homeland - including pushing for a range-topping 7 Series competitor. However, Volvo execs have been repeatedly pushing back on the idea. In fact, it's understood that this philosophical crisis contributed mightily to the high-profile departure of Stefan Jacoby, the company's CEO until the middle of 2012 (Jacoby has since rebounded to head international operations for General Motors).
There doesn't seem like any middle path in this debate, but that apparently isn't going to stop Volvo from trying. According to a sprawling Reuters report, Volvo will placate Geely chairman Li Shufu with a stretched and lux'd up version of the next S80. Yet Li still isn't completely satisfied, and he's said to be pushing for "a plusher and bigger model he calls the S100" to rival cars like the Audi A8. For the moment, it is not clear if the larger S80-based model will be a global offering, or just another one of China's many home-market, long-wheelbase specials.
The question of future Volvo styling is up for debate as well. According to Reuters, "Insiders say Li is a big fan of the new styling that design chief Thomas Ingenlath has brought to Volvo" (The latest example, the Concept Coupe from this week's Frankfurt Motor Show, is shown above.) Yet there are those who worry whether the company's new styling strategy is showy enough to appeal to China's wealthy. Chairman Li would still like to see a range-topping sedan for "show-off people," but Volvo's management doesn't want to go down that road. Clearly, this won't be the last we hear about the company's existential boardroom battles.

Volvo building new AstaZero safety proving ground in Sweden

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

Volvo is an automaker committed to vehicle safety, setting an ambitious target for itself: by 2020, the Swedish automaker envisions that no one will be killed or seriously injured in one of its cars. In order to achieve that goal, Volvo has announced a new proving ground designed specifically to test safety solutions.
Called AstaZero, the new facility near the company's headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is the result of a $70 million investment. It will cover some 500 acres, with over 60 acres of pavement, four city blocks and three and a half miles of highway. The Active Safety Test Area (the ASTA in AstaZero) will enable Volvo and its partners (including Scania trucks as well as government bodies and university development programs) to simulate city streets, highways, rural roads, roundabouts, T-junctions and more, combining traffic from cars, pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, buses, trucks and even animals in order to account for all manner of potential hazards.
The facility will enable Volvo to test active safety systems and autonomous vehicle operations, and even allow robots to test its prototypes in an adaptive environment that aims to be more flexible than existing proving grounds. Read more about Volvo's commitment to safety in the press release below.
