This 2001 Volvo XC70 is in very good cosmetic condition but it does have several mechanical issues that need to be addressed. I have replaced many parts but cannot afford to put any more money into this vehicle. It would be a great car for someone that has the funds or skills to take care of the remaining issues. In the past year, the following items have been repaired/ replaced: Timing belt All 5 coils ETM (aftermarket upgraded part by Xemodex) Upper and lower engine mounts PCV system Front and rear Oxygen sensors gas cap Extras that will go with the vehicle: I have the B4 servo parts, but they have not been installed I have several quarts of correct transmission fluid and a "Gibbons method" kit for trans fluid changes Here are the mechanical issues that I am aware of that need to be addressed before you could consider it a daily driver: Catalytic converter needs to be replaced (causing the check engine light) Transmission service light is on - this is the main problem. The vehicle never received the "neutral delete" software update which may be causing the problem. Last time I drove it, the trans wouldn't downshift properly. I think it was stuck in 3rd at a stop. It does drive but it is very slow from a stop. It will upshift once under way. "position light bulb failure" warning light - I cannot determine why this warning light is on. I received it from a bulb that was burned out, but it has been replaced and all lights are working on the vehicle, no fuses are burned out. The warning light will not go away. You may be able to get it cleared if you have the VIDA Volvo OBD equipment (I do not). "alarm service" warning light - the vehicle alarm/remote works, but the alarm is triggered for no reason (no audible alarm, just the flashing light on the dash). unlocking the doors with the key fob remote clears it and the vehicle will start, just don't know why it keeps triggering. High beam switch doesn't work all the time. The high beams work if you hold the switch, but the switch will not always stay in position. The switch itself may just be dirty, there is nothing wrong with the lights themselves. When this vehicle runs, it is a great car. I do not have the money, time, or energy to get it back on the road. So, any Volvo lovers out there are welcome to her. You are welcome to inspect the vehicle prior to purchase and I would be glad to be available to meet your shipper if you need to go that route. You will be responsible for all arrangements and payment to any shipper you need. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will respond as quickly as possible. |

2022 Volvo C40 Recharge Interior Review | Stylish, spartan and Google tech
Fri, Apr 29 2022The 2022 C40 Recharge is an all-electric, all-or-nothing proposition from those delightfully stylish Swedes over at Volvo, whose designers put their typical minimalistic spin on this crossover-coupe EV. While Zac was a bit more fond of the all-blue interior in our tester than I was (you can also get it in black), I was at least equally as impressed as he was by its new tech suite. The "you can get it any way so long as it's loaded" American-market C40 arrived sporting the latest version of Google’s Android Automotive OS infotainment system (like other Volvos). In what may be the most stereotypical display of Silicon Valley chicanery I've seen so far in 2022, this new infotainment system doesnÂ’t support Apple CarPlay at launch, so it was almost poetic when the iPhone I used to shoot the above video fought me tooth-and-nail when I tried to share it via Google Drive. Relax, iPhoners. Volvo says an OTA update with CarPlay support is coming. But let's face it, when it comes to maps, Google is Google, and since you get it natively here, it works exactly the way you'd expect it to. Google Assistant is there to handle your voice commands too. There's even ample room in the rear for a future Google Bathroom Attendant, should you feel that you're just not getting quite enough Google in your diet. If you've driven a recent Volvo, the infotainment system will probably look familiar to you. Despite the architectural overhaul and obvious Google ecosystem UI elements, it still feels like a Volvo system. I suppose that could be either good or bad, depending on how you feel about Volvo's user experience, which tends to eschew menu-diving in favor of pretty much putting every possible feature on the screen at the exact same time. That may sound overwhelming, but there's an organizational method to this pixelated madness. Google's approach uses a simple scroll when you run out of home screen (yes, like a smartphone) and has collapsing drop-downs in the app menu for categories with more icons than will fit in the allotted span. For apps, settings and other such menus, this works a treat. Obviously, you don't want to be scrolling through things like cabin temperature or fan speeds, so you get more conventionally laid-out menus for both, for better or for worse.
Volvo Polestar reveals new V8 Supercars engine
Mon, 09 Dec 2013Volvo may be better known for turbo fives and inline fours, but in 2005 it launched the XC90 with a new eight-cylinder engine built for it by Yamaha. Fast forward to this past June when Volvo announced its intention to enter Australia's V8 Supercars series, where it would compete with the likes of Ford, Holden, Nissan and Mercedes-AMG. This is the engine with which it intends to do so.
Revealed this weekend at the Sydney 500, this competition-spec powerplant is based on the same B8444S that powered the XC90 and S80 (not to mention the Noble M600), but tuned for racing duty to be shoehorned into the new S60 touring car. The 60-degree aluminum block has been bored out from 4.4 liters to 5.0, its compression ratio boosted to 10:1, modified to run on E85 bio-ethanol and its redline increased to 7500 rpm. Volvo also promises a unique engine note from its new racers.
While Volvo and its racing partner Polestar haven't released official output numbers, regulations call for outputs between 620 and 650 horsepower - in any event, a whole lot more than the 311 hp it produces in stock form. (Noble managed to squeeze that much out of the same block, but that required twin turbochargers while this unit remains naturally aspirated.) Scope out the details in the press release below and the photos from the reveal in the gallery above.
Volvo celebrates 20 years of sleeper wagons with 850 T-5R and V60 Polestar
Mon, 10 Nov 2014I must have been around Bar Mitzvah age when I was in the back of my parents' car on the highway as we passed a truck full of Volvo 850 T-5R wagons - half of them in black, half in banana yellow. It was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen: a whole gaggle of sleeper power wagons that were infinitely cooler than whatever minivan we were riding in. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago, but it was. And Polestar is understandably keen to mark the anniversary of the first overt Volvo performance wagon.
While Volvo's racing partner hasn't released some commemorative edition to celebrate that prototypical sleeper, it has shot a special batch of photos of the T-5R (based on the 850 wagon internally known as the 855 for its five doors) alongside its modern successor, the V60 Polestar. The images shot in Huntington Beach, CA, only go to show how much has changed in the two decades that separate them.
Whereas this front-drive T-5R packed a turbocharged inline-five driving 240 horsepower through a four-speed automatic propel the yellow box to 62 in 7.0 seconds, the turbo six in the svelter, Rebel Blue-clad 2015 V60 Polestar churns out 350 hp to all four wheels through a six-speed auto for a 4.9-second sprint. That's the kind of progress we can get behind. In fact, it's the sort of progress that everyone can get behind, really, because chances are whatever you're driving will probably have a hard time keeping up.
