You are bidding on a 1999 Volvo V70 station wagon.  This car has been our family workhorse since we bought it in 2002 as a certified used vehicle.  It has 175,728 miles on it and there are certainly signs of wear.  I have tried to include pictures of the major blemishes.  These include worn leather, plastic separating from the hatch door, scratches on both bumpers, blotches on roof due to tree sap, small dent in rear passenger side, broken plastic speaker cover, some white paint spatter on the lower passenger door.  The car comes with one key. There is no functioning remote. The service light comes on, but only because the mechanic who did the last oil change did not know how to turn it off.

Despite this laundry list of issues, we would be glad to keep this car if we needed a third vehicle and we will be sad to see it go.  The damage to the bumpers and the rear driver side is from minor parking lot incidents. The car has never been in a significant collision.  It runs well and we have put at least 10,000 miles on it every year since we have owned it.  This car has Volvo's excellent safety features and could make a great vehicle for a teenager learning to drive.

This model also comes with a rear-facing third row that hold two small passengers.  The seats are not appropriate for adults, but the kids love them.

Volvo S60, XC60 caught testing with freshened faces

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Neither the Volvo S60 nor the Volvo XC60 are that old, but the Swedish automaker is wasting no time ensuring that two of its most popular products don't get stagnant on the market, a fate that has befallen some of the other products it offers.
Even though these two models helped usher in a new styling direction for Volvo not too long ago, the modest facelifts on tap for both looks like they will bring both products closer to the styling of the handsome overseas V40 hatchback.
Aside from the pointier front end, the XC60 crossover is also getting a revised rear fascia that now includes integrated dual exhaust outlets. The shots of the S60 show us that the sedan's interior will be getting minor tweaks as well, including reshaped front seats and a new shift lever.

Volvo building new AstaZero safety proving ground in Sweden

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

Volvo is an automaker committed to vehicle safety, setting an ambitious target for itself: by 2020, the Swedish automaker envisions that no one will be killed or seriously injured in one of its cars. In order to achieve that goal, Volvo has announced a new proving ground designed specifically to test safety solutions.
Called AstaZero, the new facility near the company's headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is the result of a $70 million investment. It will cover some 500 acres, with over 60 acres of pavement, four city blocks and three and a half miles of highway. The Active Safety Test Area (the ASTA in AstaZero) will enable Volvo and its partners (including Scania trucks as well as government bodies and university development programs) to simulate city streets, highways, rural roads, roundabouts, T-junctions and more, combining traffic from cars, pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, buses, trucks and even animals in order to account for all manner of potential hazards.
The facility will enable Volvo to test active safety systems and autonomous vehicle operations, and even allow robots to test its prototypes in an adaptive environment that aims to be more flexible than existing proving grounds. Read more about Volvo's commitment to safety in the press release below.
