Up for sale is my 1998 Volvo S70 T5 with the super rare 5spd manual transmission. It has 198K miles and runs great. The black paint is in very good condition and the tan leather seats are in surprisingly good condition, with only one split seam that can be repaired. The engine runs great with no noises or smoke. The clutch is very good. The Turbo spools up well enough. I was just about to upgrade the turbo but found a new project car. It has the rare "R" wheels on it that, ideally, should be re-powdercoated. I do have a set of the original T5 wheels and tires for $200 if the buyer is interested. This T5 was a daily driver that I have been working on. While it is fully drivable it does have some very minor things that need to be corrected. The factory moonroof only opens about halfway. I believe that something is blocking the track back under the headliner as it moves freely until it stops. The air is super cold until it reaches it's set temperature, then becomes cool. If you turn it off for a couple of minutes and back on, it cold again. Don't ask me! I believe it may be the climate control module. The tires are good as is all the glass. The spark plug wires and plugs are new as is the temp sending unit and thermostat. We have driven this car close to 2000 enjoyable miles without a problem. I do not know when the timing belt was done so the winning bidder will want to keep that in mind. As said, this T5 is fully drivable and will make an excellent car for someone who likes to work with these cars. Bid well and feel free to ask any questions.
I have to sell this car "as is with no warranty".
High bidder is required to make contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction.
$500 deposit (cashier's check or money order) is required within 2 days of the end of the auction with the remaining balance due 4 days thereafter.
If the high bidder does not satisfy the balance in the alotted time period and does not make prior arrangements, the $500 deposit is non-refundable and I reserve the right, at that point, to offer the vehicle to the second highest bidder.
If I do not hear from the high bidder within 48 hours from the end of the auction, I reserve the right to offer/sell the car to the second highest bidder.
Zero feedback bidders are welcome, but please contact me prior to bidding. I reserve the right to cancel zero feedback bids that have not done this. Please keep this in mind if you are a "last minute" bidder.
This vehicle is listed for sale locally for $2200 (our buy it now). We reserve the right to end this auction early if the reserve has not been met and it sells locally. However, once the reserve is met on the Ebay auction we will pull it from the lot.
I have set the reserve at $1700. Please note that I will not end this auction early. Ending an auction early (with the exception of the circumstances listed above) is unfair to the other bidders.
We would be happy to pick up the winning bidder at the local airport (Greenville Spartanburg International Airport), the local train station, or the local Greyhound station.
I do not pad our prices with any "documentation" fees like so many other car dealers on Ebay do. Contrary to many dealers will say it really doesn't cost much to fill out a couple of papers. SC buyers will need to pay standard taxes (sales and property when applicable). I can also help out of state buyers get a South Carolina temporary/vehicle in transit tag ($20).
Finally, SHIPPING...we do not ship cars ourselves. However, we will be happy to work with your shipping company any way we can.

The next-generation wearable will be your car
Fri, Jan 8 2016This year's CES has had a heavy emphasis on the class of device known as the "wearable" – think about the Apple Watch, or Fitbit, if that's helpful. These devices usually piggyback off of a smartphone's hardware or some other data connection and utilize various onboard sensors and feedback devices to interact with the wearer. In the case of the Fitbit, it's health tracking through sensors that monitor your pulse and movement; for the Apple Watch and similar devices, it's all that and some more. Manufacturers seem to be developing a consensus that vehicles should be taking on some of a wearable's functionality. As evidenced by Volvo's newly announced tie-up with the Microsoft Band 2 fitness tracking wearable, car manufacturers are starting to explore how wearable devices will help drivers. The On Call app brings voice commands, spoken into the Band 2, into the mix. It'll allow you to pass an address from your smartphone's agenda right to your Volvo's nav system, or to preheat your car. Eventually, Volvo would like your car to learn things about your routines, and communicate back to you – or even, improvise to help you wake up earlier to avoid that traffic that might make you late. Do you need to buy a device, like the $249 Band 2, and always wear it to have these sorts of interactions with your car? Despite the emphasis on wearables, CES 2016 has also given us a glimmer of a vehicle future that cuts out the wearable middleman entirely. Take Audi's new Fit Driver project. The goal is to reduce driver stress levels, prevent driver fatigue, and provide a relaxing interior environment by adjusting cabin elements like seat massage, climate control, and even the interior lighting. While it focuses on a wearable device to monitor heart rate and skin temperature, the Audi itself will use on-board sensors to examine driving style and breathing rate as well as external conditions – the weather, traffic, that sort of thing. Could the seats measure skin temperature? Could the seatbelt measure heart rate? Seems like Audi might not need the wearable at all – the car's already doing most of the work. Whether there's a device on a driver's wrist or not, manufacturers seem to be developing a consensus that vehicles should be taking on some of a wearable's functionality.
Volvo 850 T5 R pickup conversion is ready for a cool yule
Mon, 10 Dec 2012There are plenty of ways to get your holiday tree home from the farm, but few are so classy as this Volvo 850 ute. Built in Sweden and shipped to Belgium, the car wears all of the necessary kit to pass as a 850R, and with a turbocharged 2.3-liter five cylinder under the hood, this creation should have no trouble dashing through the snow. Looks like a mighty fine use of an otherwise derelict Volvo wagon to us, though we have to imagine all that torque steer and no weight over the aft would make for all sorts of silliness once the roads went slick.
Still, if it were our Sawzall, we'd be happier with the keys to a certain BMW M5 utility in our pocket. Or, you know, the 3 Series conversion BMW whipped up not too long ago. You can head over to Autofans.be for a closer look at the 850 ute.
Tesla poaches Volvo interior engineering boss Anders Bell
Tue, Dec 20 2016Tesla is the belle of both the eco-friendly and luxury balls. The company's Model S and Model X are status symbols, and benchmarks for the ability to blend both green credentials with performance and a luxury driving experience. That said, their cabins aren't necessarily deserving of those credentials. That's why this little news nugget is such a big deal for the California brand. Electrek reports that Tesla has poached Anders Bell from Volvo. Bell confirmed the move via his LinkedIn page. The (now former) head of interior engineering and senior director of engineering was responsible for the Swedish brand's raft of high-quality, beautifully crafted cabins. Doubtless Tesla wants a piece of the critical acclaim Volvo's received for the interior design and quality on its 90-series models – XC90, S90, and V90. The move is, at least based on Electrek's stalking of Bell's LinkedIn profile, a big loss for Volvo. Bell joined the Swedish brand fresh out of Halmstad College's engineering program in 1998 and has spent his entire career working for Gothenburg and its various owners. That included a nearly four-year stint in China after Geely bought Volvo from Ford, assisting with the Chinese launch of the XC60. Bell's listed his final project with his previous employer as "development, design, and release of Volvo interiors to be launched 2017-2018 and concept definitions of interiors 2019 and beyond." That means that while Bell started at Palo Alto this month, his impact at Volvo won't fade for several more years.
