Thank you for viewing my 2005 stock 26-30 MPG 300HP AWD
Volvo S60 R-Type with "Rear Park Assist" & Satelite radio. This
particular model sold for just over $47,000 new. R-Type's in this
condition with (tan leather) are very rare. This "R-Type" is positively
the cleanest, most comfortable, sporty, and powerful sport sedan I have
ever owned! It is a smoke FREE vehicle. This "R-Type has Xenon headlamps, and is truly as clean
and straight as the pictures reveal. I know of no mechanical issues. The S60 flaunts Volvo's famous
Dolby ProLogic Surround Sound, with 6-disc changer, and sounds absolutely fantastic!!! This
is my third Volvo and IT IS A TOTAL HEAD TURNER! The leather is in near
PERFECT condition with the exception of a little stitching coming loose
on the outside edge of the drivers seat (not even a wear issue, just a
factory oops ) to which I have a photo of if needed. The inside of the
car still smells like new as does the leather. It has Yokohama
235/40/R18 YK520 tires on it with half the tread life left. Volvo's
75,000 mile service work has been done including new cabin air filter,
oil change, engine air filter and new Volvo spark-plugs. Everything on
the car is original to Volvo including the battery, with no modifications to the engine in any
way shape or form. The R-Type is Powered by a Newtonion Physics
5-cylinder intercooled engine with a Borg Warner Turbo and is rated 0-60
in 5.5secs. I am "AVERAGING" 23.5-25.2 MPG and 26-30MPG HWY and have
pics of the dash as I'm driving showing both "instant" and "average" MPG
for you to verify if interested. The S60 scored the top rating in the
IIHS frontal offset test. I have the specifications to this model if
you'd like them. The original owner was a lady outside of San Antonio TX. The car has NEVER seen snow to my knowledge. Vehicle comes with original owners manual and maintenance record book to follow for regularly scheduled maintenance. I am selling it as I will be traveling with my job and
will not be able to drive the car for extended periods. Sell of vehicle is final. Buyer is responsible for delivery of vehicle. At the close of auction I will accept a non refundable $500.00 cashiers check or deposit into my paypal account to hold the car for seven days. I will accept the remaining balance in the form of a cashiers check. Best of luck to all!!!

Volvo EX90 will lack certain features on launch, to come later with OTA updates
Fri, Jun 28 2024Turns out there's an asterisk to the news of Volvo commencing production of the EX90 at its South Carolina plant this month. The automaker sent an e-mail to customers awaiting delivery that certain features won't be installed on some delivered units, and posted a notice on its customer help site listing the 10 features that could be missing. Four are safety and ADAS features, one of those related to the lidar system, one of Volvo's primary talking points concerning the EX90. The automaker says the "Lidar first safety scenario" will get an "update that increases the car's abilities, even in darkness — and emergency steering is primed if needed to avoid a collision." It sounds like this means there will be some lidar capability, just not the planned breadth. Four more items deal with the battery and charging. The most unwelcome might be a battery drainage issue while parked, Volvo saying that for the first three days the EX90 is parked without charging it will lose around 3% of battery charge. This is because the core computing system needs to remain on to run the car's "highly advanced functions" — whatever that means — when the SUV isn't being used. After 72 hours, the EX90 "will go into a deep sleep mode to conserve battery power." Why can't the EX90 enter a deep sleep mode an hour after the car is parked? Because software is hard. Smart charging and Plug & Charge could also be lacking, those features making charging less costly or more convenient without extra steps needed from the driver. Bi-directional charging won't come at first, either, so EX90 buyers should hold on to those portable battery banks. The two final software puzzle pieces are Apple CarPlay, out to lunch for now, and the one we consider most surprising item on the list, a light theme for the driver cluster and infotainment. On delivery, owners should expect a dark theme only on the digital displays. EX90 deliveries aren't slated to begin until later this year, though, so the OTA list could shrink (or grow) before then.
Lotus' new position: Much improved, if Volvo's experience is a guide
Wed, May 24 2017Out today is the news that Geely Holding will acquire controlling interest in British sports car maker Lotus Cars. While some 20 years ago the Chinese acquisition of a British automaker might have inspired grumbling from aggrieved Brits (and the handful of Lotus enthusiasts), the world has moved on. And so – thankfully – can Lotus. To suggest Lotus' business history has been checkered is to broaden the definition of "checkered." With its beginnings in the early '50s as a maker of component cars for competition, Lotus founder Colin Chapman – in a manner not unlike his postwar contemporary, Enzo Ferrari – was always hustling, living a hand-to-mouth existence in the production of road cars to support a racing program. Regrettably, Chapman never found a Fiat, as Ferrari did toward the end of the 1960s. Lotus had Ford in its corner for racing and as a resource for powertrains, and later benefited from the corporate support of both GM and Toyota for relatively short periods. Lotus Cars, however, never enjoyed the corporate buy-in that would have allowed Chapman to race and let someone else build the cars. Regardless of what Consumer Reports or Kelley Blue Book might have thought (if they had ...) about those early Lotus cars, a great many are now regarded as classics. My first knowledge of a production Lotus was when Tom McCahill, the 'dean' of automotive journalists in the US, tested an early Elan for Mechanix Illustrated. While we're still not sure, some 50 years later, how McCahill's XXL frame fit into the tiny roadster, he had nothing but praise for the Elan's athletic chassis and now-timeless design. In today's Lotus portfolio, the Elise and Exige continue that light, athletic tradition, while the larger Evora seems to strike wide – literally and figuratively – of the "less is more" ideal. With the Toyota-powered Evora, more is more. But in an eco-sensitive era demanding more of the original Chapman mantra – add lightness – there's little reason that Lotus can't regain relevance if given the financial resources. Geely's acquisition of Volvo, the fruits of which appear regularly not only in the news but on the streets, suggests the Chinese investment will provide strategic vision (along with money) while allowing Lotus talent to do what it does best: Create an exciting product. And while at various periods in its history the product has been worthy, Lotus in the US has been ill-served by a flailing dealer network.
Volvo finds a way to turn body panels into batteries [w/video]
Thu, 17 Oct 2013One of the problems with designing an electric vehicle is figuring out where to fit the battery pack. Volvo - as a part of a European Union research project - is working on a way around this issue by replacing standard parts with lightweight components that double as batteries on both conventional and plug-in vehicles. The image above shows one such piece on a Volvo S80. While looking like nothing more than a carbon fiber plenum cover, the piece is actually a battery pack that can store and supply enough energy for the car's entire 12-volt power system.
The parts are made by sandwiching super capacitors (which can charge faster than standard batteries) in between layers of carbon fiber. They can then be formed to replace numerous body panels such as the decklid, roof or door panels. Volvo says that the replacing the body panels and batteries with these nano batteries can help reduce the vehicle's weight by as much as 15 percent. It has taken more than three years just to design the batteries, so there's no telling when, or if, we'll ever see this technology used on a production vehicle. Scroll down for a video and press release on Volvo's innovative battery technology.
