Just in time for spring- This is THE convertible bargain on Ebay! I've just dropped the price over $1,000 to get it sold this week.

I have a small collection of classic cars (primarily Volvo's and Saab's) and after a buying spree over the winter I am forced to thin the herd by a few cars now that spring is here. I just sold one of my Saabs earlier this week and now we need to sell this cream puff to buy our son his first car- preferably an older wagon/SUV.

I purchased this beautiful convertible from a dealer in Pennsylvania that specializes in high end Volvo's. What attracted me to the car- and what the new owner will find most exciting- is the unique color combination that was only available in 2004 (Sky blue metallic over linen/taupe interior). This Volvo was special ordered from the factory and picked up in Sweden in 2004 by the original owner. Completing the interior is the unique teak style dash wood inlays that extends to the console and shifter. From the condition I can only assume this car has always been garaged, as it is now.

The navy canvas top- 2004 was the last of the canvas top convertibles for Volvo- is in excellent condition- see photos.

The original owner and second owner before me had virtually all service done by the dealer (Volvo of Ft. Washington, Pa). I called that dealer after I purchased the car and they had 48 service records on file including records for a recent timing belt change. For privacy reason, the dealer I bought the car from would not include hard copies of the service records, but if you give the dealer the Vin# they have all records on their computer.

While the pictures tell the story- there are small nicks, scratches etc typical of a 10 year old car...but you can see how beautiful the paint still shines- The Carfax shows a minor accident in 2010 which I believe included the plastic airdam underneath the front bumper where the fog lights were removed. The interior is very clean. The car has had an oil/filter change less than 3,000 miles ago and I had the transmission flushed and changed at the Volvo dealer here in Virginia in December. The car has a December 2014 Virginia state inspection decal and I had a Volvo dealer do the inspection. New tie rods were installed to pass inspection.

There are 4 matching Continental tires (over 80% tread remaining) mounted on very rare Volvo 17 inch "Arrakis" wheels- an unusual sight on a C70. Unused spare and all tools included as shown in photos.

The a/c is charged and blows cold. All original Volvo books are included. I have just one key and no alarm fob.

Issues that I know of:
*one of the rear window switches occasionally sticks but all four windows go up and down when the convertible top is opened and closed
* the hood latch occasionally sticks- I've heard this is a common problem on this model. I had the dealer realign the hood latch in Dec.
*there is a small dent right over the passenger side wheel well which can be seen (barely) in the photographs
*I had occassional transmission lag between 2nd and 3rd which seems to have been rectified with new upper and lower torque arms just installed by the dealer two weeks ago.
*the headlight washer hose on one headlight wiper needs to be fixed. Honestly- can anyone tell me why these exist??

This outstanding Volvo C70 convertible is 10 years old but looks nearly new. It is being sold "as-is" with no warranty given or implied. I also have the car for sale locally so the auction may be ended early for a local buyer. All emailed questions will be answered promptly.

Geely chairman is now the single biggest investor in Daimler

Fri, Feb 23 2018

Li Shufu, the chairman and main owner of Chinese carmaker Geely, has built a stake of 9.69 percent in Daimler AG, the German carmaker said in a regulatory filing on Friday. The stake, worth nearly $9 billion at the current valuation for Daimler shares, makes Li the biggest single shareholder in the maker of Mercedes-Benz cars, trucks and vans headquartered in the German city of Stuttgart. A Daimler spokesman called the stake purchase a private investment by Li. "We are delighted, with Li Shufu, to have won over another long-term investor who is convinced of Daimler's innovative prowess, strategy and future potential," the spokesman said in response to a request for comment. "Daimler knows and respects Li Shufu as a Chinese entrepreneur of particular competence and forward thinking." Li's stake purchase makes him the top shareholder in Daimler ahead of the Kuwait Investment Authority, which owned 6.8 percent as of Sept. 30, according to Thomson Reuters data. Earlier this month, the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag reported that the Chinese industry giant was seeking to become Daimler's biggest shareholder, likely exceeding the 6.8-percent stake of the Kuwait Investment Authority. The paper said Daimler had reportedly turned down Geely's $4.5 billion offer for a 5-percent stake via a discounted share placement, saying that Geely could buy shares in the open market. Institutional investors currently own 70.7 percent of Daimler, and the company already has strong ties to Chinese automakers BAIC and BYD. Bild am Sonntag said the move was intended as a strategic alliance against Apple, Google and Amazon on autonomous and connected cars. And Reuters reported that Daimler wants to have bespoke "robo taxis" on the road quicker than Google's Waymo, and views Geely as a strong partner for that. Geely conversely is interested in Daimler's electric car battery technology, and sources quoted by the German paper say there are plans to establish joint electric car manufacturing in Wuhan, China, to meet China's smog-reducing quotas. Geely is developing the Lynk & Co. brand of electric and hybrid cars. Geely owns Volvo, which has enjoyed a renaissance under the arrangement, as well as the maker of London's black cabs. In December, it bought a stake in AB Volvo, the maker of Volvo trucks.

10 best new car deals in late September 2021

Wed, Sep 29 2021

New car sales were drastically affected in 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but things started to show signs of recovery toward the end of the year before really coming on strong in the early months of 2021. Now there's an ongoing shortage of microchips causing a great deal of pricing fluctuation and a limited supply of certain vehicles. That doesn't mean there aren't still great deals on new cars, though. Using data provided by TrueCar, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best automotive deals for September 2021. WeÂ’ve noted the original MSRP, the average transaction price, and the total savings in both dollars and as a percentage of the original sticker price. Basically, weÂ’ve done all the hard work for you! So now, all you need to do is compare deals, go on a few test drives, and maybe drive away in a great car (and an even better bargain).

Best places to get your car maintained and repaired

Wed, May 1 2024

In this era of rampant inflation and high interest rates, the challenges of acquiring a car or SUV have been well documented. And so it has never been more important to protect that expensive investment by maintaining it. In recent months, Autoblog has shared Consumer Reports' evaluation of the least and most expensive car brands to keep running, as well as tips to prolong a car’s useful life. Especially since the pandemic, a number of factors have impacted these costs: more complex vehicles, new materials and manufacturing methods, a shortage of qualified technicians and replacement parts. Since 2022, repairs costs have jumped each year by about 10 percent. This month, Consumer Reports is offering a useful primer on keeping your ride in great shape, suggesting what might be the best options for searching out a repair shop, depending, as CR says, “on your car and your situation.” Author Ben Preston identifies three basic types of repair facilities: dealership service departments, independently owned repair shops, and chain repair shops. Building up trust with a specific shop and feeling comfortable going there is important. Preston quotes John Ibbotson, chief mechanic at Consumer ReportsÂ’ Auto Test Center: "You might be able to save a few bucks by going to whichever shop offers the cheapest prices, but if you want consistent, reliable service, itÂ’s best to find a repair shop you trust and stick with it,” Ibbotson says. The story goes on to evaluate each type of service facility. HereÂ’s a breakdown of CRÂ’s findings: Dealerships These work well for owners of newer cars, especially for covered warranty work. But the disadvantage is the high labor rates common to dealer service. Satisfaction ratings for dealer service departments range from very good (Acura, Lexus, Mazda, and Volvo) to not-so-good (Jeep and Kia). Dealers are best for: Fixing infotainment system glitches: "If the screen in the center of your dash has a habit of freezing up, or the touchscreen-activated climate controls arenÂ’t working, the dealership is the most likely place to find someone with the know-how to fix problems that maybe only a factory-authorized technician can access," Ibbotson says. Safety system recalibration: "Anything from a crack in your windshield to a minor fender dent can upset the calibration of the sensors that make features like automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control work," says Ibbotson.
