This is my Volvo 1800 ES, current mileage is 128,058, and that is pretty accurate because when the speedometer went south last year I had it rebuilt without any drive time while getting repaired.
I am the 2nd owner and had her for almost 2 years, mileage when I bought her was 125,662. I had been looking for an ES 4 speed with overdrive for about 3 months before coming through with this one. It was tough out there, had seen many but almost everyone had rust or rot issues and if you know these cars then you know rust can be a BIG issue. This one is rust free, no rust on the doors, no blistering at the seams, no rust or rot on the frame, floor pans, or spare tire well. It has had a repaint some time back by the original owner, paint is very nice but has some chips. I did go around the car with a magnet (as did the broker I bought it from) and found no Bondo. One of the hood hinges was frozen and had ginked the metal on the front edge of the hood. I pulled the hinge and freed it up and had the hood repaired though I did the added paint in that area which isn't stellar but is adequate. This was a California Blue Plate car but when I moved to Southern Oregon last Sept. I had to have the plates swapped out. Yes, I'm in Oregon but I've never driven her in the snow, rain or wet roads, I have other cars for those days. I've done a few things to the car but not much was needed. I replaced a some of the side moldings because the former owner parked next to someone that like to swing open their doors with reckless abandon causing dings to both the moldings (which are soft aluminum) and the sides of the car. I had the brakes replaced and bearings checked and greased. I found a spare parts car and pulled off a few items and swapped whatever I thought was less then stellar. The front seats from the parts car are in her now, these are vinyl, the originals were leather but were dry and cracking. There was an issue with the 2nd gear syncro so I had the transmission gone through and had a new clutch installed at the same time. They were also supposed to replace the rear main seal, and they may have, but I have a small drip and haven't located the source, may be that. All gauges work and are clear, the exception being the Water Temp which has a tiny amount of fog. The clock works and is the original mechanism. I had it repaired and not replaced with a quartz movement, it does run a little fast, picks up about 5 minutes every other week. It takes a very hot day to get the Oil Temp or the Water Temp gauges to go up but they do, this is just a very cool running car. The broker I bought the car from was a high end auto broker (he got it from the estate and never registered so I am the second owner) and he had mentioned going though the car fairly well and one of the things he did was a radiator flush / inspection, brake lines and hoses as well. He had also the tires so you'll be rolling of four still fresh Goodyear Eagle LS2's. The radio is a Blaupunkt AM / FM that I believe is original to the car. Other than that, it's a dream to drive, quick and sporty, very unique and gets compliments wherever I go. It's been reliable and has no issues, drives straight with no shimmies or shakes, doesn't smoke or burn oil. There is probably a lot more I can be telling you but I'm feeling like I'm writing a book, if you have questions please ask, if you need additional pictures, please ask. If you need to have the car inspected please ask. I will drive the car to the winning bidder within a reasonable distance but YOU have to get me home. On Oct-27-13 at 21:23:42 PDT, seller added the following information: FOR SOME REASON THIS AD ONLY AND NOT MY OTHERS IS SHOWING MY 1800 ES LOCATION AS SUN VALLEY CALIFORNIA, THIS IS INCORRECT, THE LOCATION IS SOUTHERN OREGON, THE TOWN OF JACKSONVILLE, 97530. I tried to correct this but can't after receiving bids. I will try to have corrected thru customer service, sorry for this mistake and any inconvenience. |

We dialed a random Swede, talked about not driving Volvos
Fri, Apr 8 2016The Swedish Number is now a thing. It's a cool thing. You dial, a random Swede picks up, and you chat. Or, in my case, you dial and a random Brit living in Sweden for the past six year picks up and you chat. Since I was calling on behalf of Autoblog, when I got Martin from the small coastal town of Sundsvall, on the phone, we talked about cars, Volvos (natch), and cold-weather testing. Oh, and about plugging in his regular Toyota Prius. ABG: I was able to come to Sweden and test Volvos a month or so ago. Do you drive a Volvo? Martin: [laughs] No. I think Volvo is a fantastic car. It truly is an amazing car, but no. My girlfriend has a company car, so we drive a hybrid Toyota Prius. ABG: And how does that work in the cold winters? It obviously cuts down on the environmental problems. Martin: No problem at all. Because we have these cold winters, like you do get in the States as well, where we park our cars, we've got electricity posts where we can plug in the cars. Motor car engines have a heater, so you can have the heater going for some time before you get into the car. So it warms up the engine and there's a socket inside the car to warm up the inside of the car as well. It's very efficient. You just need to remember to set the timer when you climb out of the car and connect the cable. It obviously cuts down on the environmental problems as well because your car is already warm before you start them. ABG: I know that makes them overall more efficient, I just didn't know it could work with any car. It used to be you would keep the diesel engine blocks warm, but this works for pretty much any car in Sweden? Martin: Yes. Our temperatures here can vary. We do tend to get roundabout -18 to -25C [0 to -15F], where I live, sometimes. Normally, in the winter, we always plug the car in to make it more environmentally friendly, for starters, and then it's a nice warm car when you get in. The coldest I remember it getting here was -36 [-33F]. In the north of Sweden they've had, on record, -56 [-69F]. ABG: That's too cold. Martin: That is cold, yeah. Most countries, now, use the north of Sweden to test their cars because of the ice. Volvo S90 Prototype View 15 Photos ABG: That's actually why I came over there, to test out the new XC90s and S90s. Martin: Is that your job, then? ABG: I don't test the cars for the companies, but I test them for Autoblog. They'll invite us to test the vehicles so we can see for ourselves what the vehicles do in cold weather.
Volvo V90 Cross Country vs V60 Cross Country Luggage Test | Comparing cargo areas
Fri, Jun 4 2021While the Audi A6 Allroad and Mercedes E 450 All-Terrain have disappointed us with their poseur levels of capability and questionable value, that is not the case with the other midsize luxury off-roadish wagon: the 2021 Volvo V90 Cross Country. It has genuinely useful extra ground clearance and a lower, more sensible price. But what about that other element of wagon goodness, utility? Although I have not luggage-tested the Allroad or All-Terrain, Road Test Editor Zac Palmer effectively did so using different luggage and different A6/E-Class wagon variants. Our results are therefore only vaguely comparable. My guess is the Mercedes would win the day and the V90 would top the Audi, but again, that's just a guess. I have, however, luggage-tested Volvo's smaller off-roadish wagon, the V60 Cross Country. Surprisingly, the difference between Cross Countries isn't that great. According to Volvo's wonderfully detailed cargo specifications that indicate what exactly they measured (hint hint, every other car company), the V90 Cross Country (above left) has 25.5 cubic-feet of space behind the back seat from floor to roof. The V60 Cross Country (right) has 23.2 cubic feet. That's not much of a difference. However, Volvo also provides the cargo area length from the seat base to the liftgate. That's a bigger difference on paper: 45.4 inches for the V90 and 40.7 inches for the V60. That would play out once I brought the luggage into the equation. Before we get to the bags, though, take one more look at the above comparison photo. Check out the different D pillars and specifically how much more upright the V60's are. That's my guess as to why the V90 cargo area manages to be so much longer, yet has only a minor volume difference. Same bags, same formation, different Volvo wagons. You clearly see here that there's more length available in the V90. Five inches more? I don't know about that, but you nevertheless DO get more space. As with every luggage test I do, I use two midsize roller suitcases that would need to be checked in at the airport (26 inches long, 16 wide, 11 deep), two roll-aboard suitcases that just barely fit in the overhead (24L x 15W x 10D), and one smaller roll-aboard that fits easily (23L x 15W x 10D). I also include my wife's fancy overnight bag just to spruce things up a bit (21L x 12W x 12D).
Volvo Cars' sales of fully electric vehicles jump in October
Fri, Nov 3 2023STOCKHOLM - Volvo Cars' sales in October grew 10% from a year earlier to 59,861 cars as fully electric car sales jumped but hybrid models fell, the Sweden-based group said on Friday. Volvo Cars said in a statement sales of fully electric cars rose 29% to account for 18% of all its cars sold in the month. Sales of hybrid cars, however, fell 8%. In total, all recharge models were up 7% to account for 36% of total sales. Shares in the group, which is majority-owned by China's Geely Holding, were up 6% in morning trade, taking the year-to-date drop to 12%. CEO Jim Rowan last week said he saw healthy demand for Volvo cars and widening profit margins for its battery electric vehicles (BEV) this quarter, against the third, as the group posted third-quarter profits that lagged estimates. Rivals such as General Motors, Ford, Tesla and Volkswagen have earlier warned that demand for EVs was not developing as expected. Volvo Cars said on Friday that sales in the biggest market Europe were up 13% in October. Sales in the U.S. were up 19% while, in China, they were flat.
