This is a white 1990 Volvo Wagon with undetermined mileage (the odometer didn't work when we purchased it). It is estimated to be 175,000-200,000. We purchased the car in Cottonwood, Arizona about two years ago from a private seller who informed us that he got it in Phoenix (having spent it's entire life there). There is a dent on the right passenger side from a minor accident. We had the car mechanically inspected before we bought it and was told it was all cosmetic. Before we left Arizona, we purchased a used, but straight passenger-side door and fender from a dealer in Tucson. These are included but will need to be painted to match. There is no rust except for a tiny spot on the hood which occurred due to tree sap.
The wagon runs fine, however there are engine oil and automatic transmission fluid leaks. The car has had no problem passing Ohio e-check. The A/C does not work. The fan squeals on the two lower speeds. Tires are still good. The rear fog/wiper/washer wires have been clipped before we bought it. It has new front struts. The cruise control does not function. We upgraded the stereo with a Sony CD/Bluetooth unit. Heated seats appear to be unplugged (again, before we got it). Seats are in good shape with a only a small cigarette burn? on the passenger side. The car does not smell like smoke whatsoever. Neither us or the previous owners were smokers. There's cracks in the plastic around the rear pillars, but the rear seats and carpeting in the back and the cargo area are very good. The third stoplight/rear reverse lights are not functioning. We purchased blue thermoplastic OEM Volvo mats that are included. Power windows work, interior lights are mostly perfect.
Overall, this 240 runs well and has a lot of life left in her. My parents have owned quite a few Volvo 240's over the years and they don't sell this car easily. They've recently retired and just want something more modern. Considering there's no rust (except for the spot on the hood), this wagon is really an excellent value. More pictures available upon request. Car is for sale locally, so auction may end early if no bids are received. $2500

Hyundai Sonata PHEV may be a game (and mind) changer
Wed, Jun 17 2015If you really, really want to consume volts instead of fuel on your way to work, school or shopping, you currently have just three options: pure EV, hydrogen fuel cell, or plug-in hybrid EV. Much as we love them, we all know the disadvantages of BEVs: high prices due to high battery cost (even though subsidized by their makers), limited range and long recharges. Yes, I know: six-figure (giant-battery) Teslas can deliver a couple hundred miles and Supercharge to ~80 percent in 10 minutes. But few of us can afford one of those, Tesla's high-voltage chargers are hardly as plentiful as gas stations, and even 10 minutes is a meaningful chunk out of a busy day. Also, good luck finding a Tesla dealership to fix whatever goes wrong (other than downloadable software updates) when it inevitably does. There still aren't any. Even more expensive, still rare as honest politicians, and much more challenging to refuel are FCEVs. You can lease one from Honda or Hyundai, and maybe soon Toyota, provided you live in Southern California and have ample disposable income. But you'd best limit your driving to within 100 miles or so of the small (but growing) number of hydrogen fueling stations in that state if you don't want to complete your trip on the back of a flatbed. That leaves PHEVs as the only reasonably affordable, practical choice. Yes, you can operate a conventional parallel hybrid in EV mode...for a mile or so at creep-along speeds. But if your mission is getting to work, school or the mall (and maybe back) most days without burning any fuel – while basking in the security of having a range-extender in reserve when you need it – your choices are extended-range EVs. That means the Chevrolet Volt, Cadillac ELR or a BMW i3 with the optional range-extender engine, and plug-in parallel hybrids. Regular readers know that, except for their high prices, I'm partial to EREVs. They are series hybrids whose small, fuel-efficient engines don't even start (except in certain rare, extreme conditions) until their batteries are spent. That means you can drive 30-40 (Volt, ELR) or 70-80 miles (i3) without consuming a drop of fuel. And until now, I've been fairly skeptical of plug-in versions of conventional parallel hybrids. Why?
2015 Volvo Inscription models get classy with an upgraded leather interior
Thu, 17 Apr 2014If Volvo's recent spate of cool-looking concepts is any indication, the Swedish brand has some great new styling on the way. But it takes time for new vehicles to come to market. In the meantime, Volvo is livening up some of its interiors with an updated Inscription Package on the 2015 XC60 (pictured above) and S80 debuting at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
The Inscription models see mostly interior improvements with Sovereign Hide leather covering the seats and more leather for the instrument panels, seatbacks, center armrests and embroidered headrests. Inlaid wood acts as decorative trim, and there are plush, new floor mats. Exterior changes are limited to the choice of colors, namely Crystal White Pearl, Electric Silver and - exclusively for the S80 - Ember Black. The XC60 Inscription comes with 20-inch, ten-spoke wheels, and the S80 receives 19-inch versions.
The package's changes are fairly small, but it adds a certain amount of opulence to the models until the new Volvos are ready. Scroll down to read the full details about them.
2025 Volvo EX90 now $3,300 more expensive thanks to materials costs
Sun, Aug 11 2024Without any fanfare, and with sharp surprise to some dealerships and reservation holders, Automotive News reports Volvo upped the price on all EX90 trims by $3,300. The automaker told the outlet that it raised prices on May 1, a month before the EX90 entered production after almost a year of delays. Volvo said it told its dealer body and reservation holders about the increase on June 26, the same day it informed reservation holders that the electric SUV would miss certain features on delivery and be programmed with workarounds for some unsolved issues like battery drainage when parked. The omissions include at least one of the lidar-centric safety systems that Volvo touted as putting the EX90 ahead of the competition when the car launched. The company told one reservation holder the software gaps would be filled in sometime in the "early ownership" phase, the only rational kind of non-answer available to automakers working through EV bugs. We couldn't find any active EX90 forum threads about the price increase, a strange absence for an anticipated vehicle with more than 10,000 preorders. In a Reddit thread from June 27, a commenter writes, "Just got my [EX90] customization email and the price has indeed increased to $79,995 + $1,295 destination fee," making it sound like being surprised by the automaker instead of being informed, such surprise matching a story another potential buyer told AN. And now a note on the EX90 configurator warns shoppers that "Ventilated Nordico is expected to be delivered towards the latter part of the estimated delivery time above." Since there are no delivery times yet, that means no ventilated seats for U.S. buyers for an unknown amount of time. The new MSRPs figures for EX90 in base Twin Motor form after the $1,295 destination charge are: Plus 7-seater: $81,290 Plus 6-seater: $81,790 Ultra 7-seater: $85,640 Ultra 6-seater: $86,140 Add $5,000 to these prices to for the Twin Motor Performance drivetrain. Both versions run off a 111-kWh battery from CATL. The first provides a total of 402 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, and a 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds. The performance version is good for 496 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque, shrinking the 0-60 time to 4.7 seconds. A company spokesperson named rising materials costs as the culprit.
