1984 Volvo 240 245 Dl Wagon Slammed And Custom! Nr! on 2040-cars
Bernardsville, New Jersey, United States
Selling my 1984 Volvo 240 245 2.3L automatic wagon. I bought this car in Georgia last year, and it has been a winter project to get it running, then running well, and then driving, and finally, driving well. I have enjoyed the project, and hope to send her on to another loving home. It will inevitably need more work, as all older Volvos do, but as of now, it is a turn-key car. It starts right up every time and rips down the road. It turns a lot of heads, and I get a lot of compliments on it. I hope whomever wins this auction will love her as I have. Good luck, and happy bidding! Here are the details I have. Everything is described to the best of my ability, and all mechanical work was performed by me since I have owned it, so I would be happy to field any questions anyone may have. Please don't hesitate to make contact with me, or set up a time to look at her in person or take her for a spin. It is currently registered and insured, and for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction or cancel bids. Exterior: White exterior with NO visible body rust. Tiny shopping cart injuries and rock chips on hood, passenger door, and passenger quarter panel. It has been detailed and hand polished, and shines up unbelievably well. You may have no idea it is a 30 year old car. It has the classic coffin-style hood with chrome front clip and quad-square headlights. Machined finish aluminum "Corona" wheels with custom crystal center caps and Cragar XL lug nuts, wrapped with good tires. The only rust on the body is on the floor under driver and passenger seats and has been patched by previous owner (not the best repair job in the world, but it works, No safety risk). If I was going to go make a full show-car with this wagon, I would replace the effected areas with factory floor patches, but I will leave that to the new owner. It looks pretty darn good, and the white color helps hide small imperfections (which it has ample). All LED lights outside: front and rear turns/brakes/reverse/rear fogs. Super output headlights, with 250million candlepower aircraft landing lights as high beams(seriously bright). Has 4 new mud flaps installed Interior: A black and tan 2-tone interior has had a lot of custom attention, but is far from perfect. Many panels have been painted black, among them: Trunk area and trunk carpet, console and kick panels, etc were originally tan, and in poor condition, have since been blacked out. The main carpet has been cleaned and re-stained tan color and looks very good. It has a brand new set of floor mats, that have hardly been stepped on. Some mild sagging, and sun fading can be found almost everywhere in moderation. The dash has numerous cracks and is quite faded, but comes with dash carpet which looks sharp. I have the interior dice-themed, which works with the white and black exterior. I get a lot of compliments on it. The door locks, shifter and fuzzy dice bring it all together. The sale of the car comes with a portable bat-gammon game that I had lying around that matches black and tan interior with a black and tan leather case (pictured). Gauge cluster has blue LED lights (look like black-lights) and looks amazing! O/D selector switch has been moved to the main switch panel, and the wire to OD solenoid has been replaced (common 240 problem). Blower motor and resistor has been replaced and runs quietly, as it should (this is an 8 hour pain in the neck job that you don't have to deal with). It has the tan p-leather seats which have seen better days, but they do the work needed. Rear seat has some small staining, and front seats have wear and small splits in the seams. Features: Manual wind-up windows. Power locks. Power steering. Selectable O/D. Dash Carpet. Fuel/Temp/Speed/Clock all working. No check engine lights, etc. A/C is complete but not currently working, probably just needs a charge, but I never got around to messing with it. Mechanicals: This ol' girl has been lowered a lot, by cut springs, and shortened bump stops. It rides and handles very well, especially considering how low it is. One must be a little careful about pot holes, due to its low ground clearance, but it is truly a blast to drive. Odometer reads 280,000 miles and she runs excellent, with engine showing good compression. These Volvo 4 cylinder engines run forever, anyway. It purrs through a custom mandrel-bent 3" exhaust out a 4" chrome tip. The catalytic converter remains, and is the source of any and all muffling. As this is a 1984 model year, I would assume the buyer would register it as an antique and not have to worry about passing emissions inspection; I have never had it inspected, but I assume it would pass. Mechanically, I have done a lot of work to get this car reliable from the condition it was in when I got it less than 5,000 miles ago. The engine has had the distributor replaced (with a used one) and tuned-up, including cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. The fuel ECU was replaced due to a lack of noid (LH 2.0). Valve cover gasket, thermostat and gasket, temperature sensor (for the gauge). It has 4 wheel disc brakes with both new front brake calipers and hoses(4). It has upgraded rear truck shocks and new Bilstein front struts with new sway bar links. Transmission tail-shaft has been rebuilt with new seal, bushing, gasket and transmission mount. New transmission filter and pan gasket was changed. It has a new speedometer cable, cable gear and seal. Blower motor and resistor has been replaced and runs quietly, as it should, and all dash and indicator lamps have been changed while it was open.. Has had an oil change with a new filter less than 500 miles ago. |

Volvo EX90 SUV will have interior radar system to detect kids, pets
Tue, Sep 27 2022Volvo has introduced a number of important safety features in its vehicles throughout the years including the first three-point seatbelt back in 1959. But now the company has developed something a bit more techy with what it's calling the world's first interior radar system for cars. Set to debut on its upcoming flagship EX90 electric SUV, Volvo's new radar system is designed to monitor both the cabin and trunk of a vehicle in order to prevent the car from being locked while anyone is still inside. The idea is to guard against situations where pets or children may be inadvertently trapped inside a car on a hot day, with the car surfacing reminders if it recognizes that there are still occupants inside when being locked. Additionally, the car's climate control can also be set to stay on if a passenger is detected, further lowering the risk of heatstroke. While the thought of leaving a pet or child inside a car on a hot day is unimaginable to most people, it can happen to anyone. In its press release, Volvo cited statistics from the U.S. where more than 900 children have tragically died due to hyperthermia since 1998. Volvo's senior technical specialist for injury prevention Lotta Jakobsson says, “No one chooses to be distracted or tired, but we know it can happen. WeÂ’re all human and distraction is a fact of life. With the help of cutting edge technology, weÂ’ll support you when youÂ’re not at your best and help you avoid leaving family members or pets behind by accident.” In order to cover as much of the inside of the EX90 as possible, Volvo says it will use multiple radars positioned in the car's overhead console, roof-mounted reading lamps and in the trunk that can detect "sub-millimeter" movements. Unfortunately, we won't get a more detailed idea of how Volvo's new interior radar system really works until the EX90 is officially revealed on November 9th. But given that the new feature will come standard on the company's forthcoming EV (where allowed by regulation), we're hoping to see similar systems become basic equipment on more cars and makes in the future.Â
Regulators consider adding more carmakers to Takata recall
Tue, Sep 29 2015Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has been getting a lot of press recently, but the Takata airbag inflator affair could be grabbing headlines again soon. According to Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is contemplating an expansion to the campaign that could add seven automakers to the 12 already affected. They are Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and VW Group. To be clear, there's no recall for any of these automakers, yet. The government is simply asking for a full list of vehicles that each of them have with Takata-supplied inflators containing ammonium nitrate propellant. The agency is concerned this substance could play a roll in the ruptures. "NHTSA is considering not only whether to issue an administrative order that would coordinate the remedy programs associated with the current Takata recalls, but also whether such an order should include expansion of the current recalls," the letters say. All seven can be viewed, here. From a report supplied by Takata, the government already knows that the company supplied 887,055 inflators with ammonium-nitrate propellant to VW and 184,926 of them to Tesla. In an incident during the summer, a side airbag allegedly burst in a 2015 VW Tiguan. In early September, NHTSA put out a revised report that there were 23.4 million inflators to be replaced in 19.2 million vehicles in the US. An earlier accounting from the agency had about 34 million of the parts in 30 million cars. High humidity is still believed to be among the biggest risk factors for the ruptures. Although, if ammonium nitrate also gets the blame, some already recalled models might need to be repaired again. Related Video:
