The 242 Turbo in front of you is a fully restored car that was saved from certain death. It had been parked in 1992 and left to die. Fortunately, it was left under a cover that protected the vehicle from most elements but did nothing for the paint. We trailered it home and stripped the entire interior and cleaned and catalogued all of the parts making a list of new parts that were needed. The car was then taken to Vern's Imports in Kansas City where mechanical repairs were made. A rebuilt engine was installed as the original had seized from sitting. A completely new fuel system was installed from the fuel tank, fuel pump and fuel accumulator. A new wiring harness was installed as the original had deteriorated. New IPD Sport Suspension springs were installed which lowered the car approximately 1 1/2" - 2" inches and the shocks were checked but were fine. The car was then taken in to receive new paint work which included removing a couple of small dents via paintless dent repair and then having two areas of rust removed and new metal welded in. To give the car a modern look a set of 18" Pegasus wheels from a 2004 S60R were installed with 18" Toyo Proxes Tires (205/35/18). To make this combination work custom milled aluminum spacers were made after much research to get the spacing correct. These spacers are hub centric which mean they fit the hub exactly as the factory wheels did and then the spacers are wheel centric to meet the specifications of the Pegasus wheel. This assures a perfect fit and ride. The original interior was in need of extensive work. The seats were stripped and rebuilt the interior parts that were there were all cleaned and re-used if possible. New door panels and rear panels were obtained from a donor car in Pittsburg Kansas and other small interior part were obtained from other vehicles in the Midwest. Fortunately, the carpet was rolled up and set on the rear deck and in perfect condition. After the restoration was complete we took the car to many shows across the Midwest. 2009 VCOA Midsommar National show in Tulsa, Oklahoma - 1st Place 240 Class and Best of Show - Volvo with Attitude. 2009 COR Classic Car Show - 1st Place - beating all cars at the show in its age group including American Iron Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros, etc. 2010 VCOA Midsommar National show in Kansas City, Missouri - 1st Place 240 Class and Best of Show - Volvo with Attitude 2010 COR Classic Car Show - 2nd Place 2011 VCOA Midsommar National show in Salina, Kansas - 1st Place 240 Class I have receipts for the major work that was done on the car and can send those to serious buyers. When it comes down to large SUVs, there's more to consider than price and just how large it is. First, it comes down to what's underneath the skin. Well this is a little awkward. When we drove the 2025 Volvo EX30 at the Midwest Automotive Meida Association (MAMA) Spring Rally, it was destined to arrive this year at Volvo’s new entry-level electric car. Then the U.S. government slapped huge tariffs on Chinese-built vehicles. The EX30 is currently built in Chengdu, so Volvo decided to push the on-sale date back to next year when production can begin in Ghent, Belgium, likely making the American-market EX30 a 2026 model. So, the question here isnÂ’t should you buy, but rather, will it be worth the wait? We think so. ItÂ’s a bit small, and cost-cutting has resulted in some ergonomic qualms, but the EX30 looks and drives like a premium small crossover that should carry a less-than-premium price tag. Make sure to look closely at the details Volvo really hit it out of the park with the EX30Â’s design. It does minimalism almost entirely right. At first glance, itÂ’s simple at every turn; a basic box that doesnÂ’t even have a grille. Look closer, though, and you start noticing the interesting and even exciting details. The debossed Volvo insignia up front; the panel gap that curves in the exact same way as the wheel wells; all the linework in the head and taillights. And thatÂ’s just the start. The inside follows the same philosophy. Although it looks a bit basic at first glance, what with the open dash and sole center screen, you eventually notice the actual metal door handles that are extensions of the door trim and the various fascinating materials. That includes the speckled recycled plastic in my test vehicle or the woven fabric style that Road Test Editor Zac Palmer experienced in Sweden. There are little strakes here and there to add some visual interest, and the translucent trim in the vents are another great touch. It all makes the EX30 feel more fun, but also more premium, than its anticipated low price would suggest. Volvo seems to have cheaped out on controls What is frustrating, though, is that Volvo seems to have followed the Tesla, and to a lesser extent VW, model of lowering costs. That center screen handles everything. And yes, that includes the instrumentation. Now, it is something that you can get used to, but then there a lot of less-than-ideal things in life you can get used to. Acclimation does not equal good. Having your speed and other critical info directly in front of you is still superior, be it a head-up display or just a small, supplemental display like even VW provides.

Volvo aiming for a stock IPO by the end of 2021

Volvo Cars is "making good progress" toward a potential initial public offering by the end of this year, the chief executive of the Swedish premium auto brand told Reuters on Wednesday. "We are looking at the possibility of doing an IPO before the end of the year," listing shares on the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange, company CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in an interview. Samuelsson and other Volvo executives on Wednesday laid out an extensive road map to becoming a fully electric car maker by 2030, including plans to sell 600,000 battery electric vehicles at mid-decade and build a European battery gigafactory in 2026. Volvo earlier this year scrapped a proposed merger with the company's Chinese parent, Hong Kong-listed Geely Automobile. In March, Geely said Volvo would explore capital market options, including an initial public offering and stock market listing. Many startups have gone public in the United States and China over the past two years, following electric vehicle market leader Tesla Inc in taking advantage of investor enthusiasm to raise cheap capital to compete with established brands such as Volvo. Samuelsson said Volvo and Geely will continue to share vehicle architectures, internal combustion powertrains and other components. But the companies will do so at "an arm's length distance," consistent with the way independent companies do business, he said. During Wednesday's briefing, Volvo also said it plans to equip many of its future vehicles with self-driving technology, including standard lidar sensors from Luminar Technologies Inc and computers from Nvidia Corp. "Our goal is to build the safest cars possible, using all available technology," Samuelsson said. As it launches new electric vehicles, Volvo also plans a slew of related products, including insurance and vehicle subscription payment plans offered directly by the automaker, Samuelsson said. "The whole vehicle business will be recurring revenue," Samuelsson said. In Europe, the company plans to change its retail operations so that customers order new electric vehicles directly from the manufacturer, with dealers paid commissions to deliver them, Samuelsson said. In the United States, where laws protect existing dealers, Volvo will still sell vehicles through franchised retailers. For its future electric vehicles, Volvo is working with Swedish partner Northvolt on a new generation of batteries with higher energy and designed to be packaged as a structural element of the vehicle.
