1982 Volvo 240 Sedan California Car Until 2012 on 2040-cars

Year:1982 Mileage:126100
Location:

Newtown, Pennsylvania, United States

I am selling this vintage Volvo 240 as my son has left for college and does not need a car anymore.  We purchased this car on EBAY two years ago from a car mechanic in Ohio who owned it for a few months after buying it from a person who drove it to Ohio from California.  The body is very solid with one dime side rust spot on the driver's side floor panel.  This does not affect the structure.  There is surface rust on the fender due to my son sliding against a fence on the way to school on a rainy day.  There is no frame damage, I banged out the fender and bumper which was bent.  However, the bumper has a crack underneath and some of the rubber molding is loose..  The right person can make it look brand new.

The center console is missing due to the plastic getting brittle which is common for these cars.  The air conditioning is not currently working. The upholstery on the driver's side  has a number of rips with very minor rips on the passenger and back seat. Recently, the car started to vibrate which needs to be attended to, it happens when you go above 40 mph.  I am just too busy to tackle it at the moment.  I suspect it could be mountings but I am not sure.

Tire threads are at 60%.

Overall a solid rugged car that needs some TLC to be brought back to its former glory.  Car currently has PA. valid state inspection through June 2015.  Again, this car is being sold AS IS and has no warranty.

Please look at the pictures, they tell the story, but if you need anymore information about this car please feel free to call me at 215-970-4818.  I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.  The vehicle history report is showing that the vehicle was towed from the accident, that is not the case, the vehicle was driven home and has been driven ever since.

I have listed this car with a very reasonable reserve.  This vehicle is also listed locally, so I reserve the right to end the listing early. Happy Bidding!

Volvo celebrates 20 years since 850 wagons came to BTCC

Wed, 30 Apr 2014

This year Honda Yuasa Racing brought a station wagon back to the ranks of competitors in the British Touring Car Championship (its drivers currently sit in third and fifth place in the Championship). In 1994, however, Volvo was the first team to run an estate in the series that's one of the best for delivering close racing.
Rickard Rydell and Jan Lammers drove the duo of 850 Estates prepped by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, lining up at Thruxton and proving that the rumors of a wagon in the series weren't a joke. The team used that year for development, getting the 2.0-liter, 290-horsepower, naturally aspirated five-cylinder engine ready for the next year's proper assault. The team's best finish over the 21 races was a fifth place, and they took 14th overall.
Rules changes led Volvo to switch to the 850 sedan the following year, but all the right noises had been made with the wagon. Rydell drive on to a third-place overall finish in 1995, three years later he claimed the Championship title. You'll find details and reminiscing from Rydell in the press release below, as well as the full video with scenes from the glory days.

Volvo launches next-gen Sensus Connect infotainment system [w/videos]

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

To borrow a line from another automaker, the Volvo S60 has the power to surprise - it's likely not top of mind for most entry-level luxury sedan buyers, but it's good enough that it probably should be. There's long been one pretty serious chink in its armor, though, and that goes for the company's entire model line: infotainment. The Swedish marque's offerings just haven't been that feature-rich, but Volvo is working to improve things with its updated Sensus Connect, a suite of functions just launched at this week's CES in Las Vegas.
The new system updates center on cloud-based connectivity advancements that include a novel Park&Pay feature that allows drivers to search for parking and pay for their space from the comfort of their car. Other functions that show off the diversity of Sensus Connect include embedded, Pandora-streaming internet radio, Wikipedia, remote start via smart phone, dealer appointment booking, destination attraction searches and an available wifi hotspot.
All of this increased functionality sounds like a big step in the right direction, and Volvo is noting it has refreshed the system's interface with "graphically themed center and driver displays" along with improved voice control and text-to-speech capabilities.

Volvo Trucks makes some pretty strong brakes

Mon, 05 May 2014

Often dashcam footage from Russia shows some of the worst driving imaginable, but this is an exception. The Volvo truck driver in this video definitely earned himself a drink or two at the end of the day after making it through this potentially horrific crash. As do the folks at Volvo that engineered those brakes.
The truck driver shows some fantastic reaction time as the silver hatchback suddenly pulls out of an intersection. It looks like he only has a few yards to bring the behemoth to a stop before demolishing the little car. While it's an impressive feat, the best part of the video has to be the driver's bow when he gets out of the truck. He looks like a maestro who just finished conducting a symphony asking for a round of applause.
Scroll down to check out this truck driver's skills and see if he earns his bow afterward.
