**1992 Volvo 240 - B230ft Swap/no Rust - Sonic Blue - Excellent Condition** on 2040-cars
Houston, Texas, United States
Absolutely rock solid restomod of a 1992 Volvo 240 - 1992 244 - Turbo Sonic Blue on EVERYTHING (car was almost completely disassembled) - extremely good with 5 coats of base and 4 coats of clear Engine 1990 B230FT - pulls very hard and starts every single time Trans M47 5SPD - no grinding, misses or weak gears Gold BBS Propus wheels and almost new tires with plenty of tread Dash is ALMOST PERFECT with a tiny 1/2 inch crack (see pictures - the best I've personally seen) A/C 134A - updated compressor (blows ice cold down here in Houston humidity, so I'm sure it'll be fine where ever you're at) Single-din Pioneer radio - good speakers in each door, two 6x9's in rear deck and custom subwoofer/amp setup in trunk Body 215K - all panels aligned, no major dents/ZERO RUST, a couple of small dings that can't be captured well with camera Volvo R/Brembo front calipers/rotors - stops on an absolute dime Stainless brake lines front and rear Dynamat throughout entire vehicle - trunk, doors and floors WELDED holes for lower moulding and antenna Filled bumpers IPD sways 28mm front 25mm rears Lowered on Lesfojor springs and Bilstein shocks SAM strut brace - very rare DJ Auto ECodes with Hi/Lo HID's Various new random parts - every single window, lock and function work on the car Tons of other little things you can inspect in the pictures (like the frenched-in LEDs along the front spoiler for a Euro-look) and ton of other things a Volvo enthusiast will notice. There is not ONE thing left to do to this car. Link to a gallery with more pics and a video of startup/audio system below - I also just recently installed a brand new 16" Permacool e-fan (high performance version, Part #19115) with the correct accessory switch and relay kit (Part #19005). Could I have gone with a used 850 fan and butchered it in there with Nissan relays? Sure. But everything done to this car was first class and there was no reason to stop at the cooling system, not to mention I live in Houston and love an A/C system so this isn't the place to screw with cooling needs heading into summer. Also installed brand new amp (you can see from the pictures there is a gap in the custom custom trunk floor as the older amp was bigger). The older amp just needs to be regrounded inside but I got a good deal on a brand new one so I jumped on it. The car will come with older amp if you'd like to reground and install for a flush trunk floor. Or just make a new one! The pictures are very indicative of what you will be getting and the car is back and tucked away after a good detail. There is a picture of any noticeable ding or damage already taken. The paint job is 2 years old but has sat in a garage, under car cover and driven sparingly. Car cover will also come with vehicle. Never had been a daily driver (way too nice in my opinion) but easily could mechanically/electrically. Has never made the round at your typical Volvo shows...always bad timing. Be the guy to unveil her... LOW reserve but email me (jaxwithanx at gmail dot com) for questions and I will do my best to answer thoroughly. I'm selling because of different life priorities. I'd rather start building for a down payment on a house than have a daily driver and 2 toys sitting around. I could possibly consider an offer but am more interested in letting the bid process go through. It's obviously not the type of car that comes around often. And for a Volvo-guy....doesn't get much better sorted.... On Jun-01-14 at 22:08:51 PDT, seller added the following information: NO RESERVE And for those that found and watched the video in the Picasa album....the audio sucks because it's a cell phone microphone and it's clipping heavily. Trust me the stereo sounds better than most new car systems...great clarity with a little bass. |

Volvo launches XC90 configurator site
Tue, 18 Nov 2014In many ways the 2016 Volvo XC90 defines the future of the Swedish brand. The SUV is the introduction of the company's Scalable Product Architecture modular platform that should underpin most of its future models. It's also the first big chance to see whether consumers accept a model like this that's only available with four-cylinder power, granted a mill that is both turbocharged and supercharged. The configurator for this Swedish hopeful is just hitting the Web giving customers a chance to see what they think.
The only available powertrain on the XC90 at the moment is the 2.0-liter Drive-E with 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The base price starts at $48,900, plus $925 for destination, but that number can balloon quite quickly. Upgrading to the R-Design package tacks on $4,000 or the even plusher Inscription package adds $5,600.
Furthermore, there are several option packages to add some extra tech and comfort to the SUV. The Vision Package with a backup cam is an extra $1,600, two versions of the Climate package to keep occupants warm come to $1,050 and $1,950, respectively, and the Convenience Package that includes adaptive cruise control adds $2,000. Depending on trim, there are up to 13 colors available in an attractive variety, although all but two add $550 to the price. There are also a wide variety of leather upholsteries to choose from.
Volvo's SuperTruck 2 looks ready to extend a ramp for K.I.T.T.
Mon, Oct 16 2023In 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) entered a public-private partnership with willing Class 8 truck makers, the goal of the partnership to dramatically improve the freight efficiency of over-the-road (OTR) trucks. The term "freight efficiency" refers to freight-ton efficiency, a different metric than miles per gallon because it takes into account the weight of the truck; a lighter tractor-trailer can carry more weight before reaching the 80,000-pound legal maximum on most U.S. highways. Volvo, Daimler (which owns the Freightliner and Sterling brands), Navistar (International), and Peterbilt signed on the the partnership to develop what's being called a SuperTruck. Volvo, Daimler, and International make their own engines, Peterbilt teamed up with Cummins, and all four found their own trailer manufacturers to work with. Those four makers debuted their first iterations of what's being dubbed SuperTrucks about six years ago. This year has been all about SuperTruck 2, Volvo the last of the quartet to show what it's achieved. The goal for SuperTruck 1 was to achieve a 50% increase in freight efficiency compared to a 2009 baseline, the baseline in Volvo's case being a 2009 VNL 670 tractor. The goal for SuperTruck 2 was another 50% improvement. Volvo said its internal goal was a 120% betterment compared to 2009, and that it exceeded the mark with a 134% increase. The company said the huge gains came primarily from aerodynamics: A wedge-shaped front with a smaller frontal area thanks to a smaller cooling package; the heavily curved, wraparound windshield; the tractor's adjustable ride height; using camera for side mirrors; and adding a boat tail to the back of the trailer, plus enough fairings and skirts front-to-back to make the tractor and trailer look like a single unit when driving in a straight line. Volvo did make changes to its rolling lab that aren't likely to infiltrate the U.S. market anytime soon. It's common for U.S. OTR trucks to use a 6x4 configuration, with two axles behind the cab, both driven. Volvo's SuperTruck 2 went with a 4x2 setup common in Europe, using a single axle behind the cab, and fitted a composite driveshaft. Combined with making the chassis out of aluminum instead of steel, and trailer partner Wabash providing a lightweight aluminum van, the tractor-trailer combo weighed just 27,000 pounds.
Volvo reveals 400-hp twin-charged PHEV power for new XC90 [UPDATE]
Tue, 08 Jul 2014UPDATE: An earlier version of this post indicated that the larger of the conventional diesel engines was a five-cylinder. However all three powertrains announced for the upcoming new XC90 are actually four-cylinder engines. The text has been updated accordingly.
Volvo rolled in to new territory when it introduced the original XC90 back in 2002, creating its first SUV and one of its top-selling models. But that was 12 years ago. In the meantime it's followed up with the smaller XC60, but what the brand faithful and the industry at large have been looking forward to most is the arrival of the new XC90.
Previewed by the Concept XC Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show, the new XC90 is set to arrive later this year, but to keep us on our toes, the Swedish automaker has been steadily trickling out a stream of information and photos. Two months ago it gave us a glimpse inside the cabin, and last month it revealed its new infotainment system, but now Volvo has released details on the upcoming new XC90's powertrain.
