What we have here is perhaps one of the rarest found VW's of all time.  This is a must have for VW & especially Type iii enthusiasts.  These hardly ever pop up on the market in complete running and driving condition with a clear title, so now is your chance to snatch one up!  I'm personally a huge fan of the car and thoroughly enjoy driving it.  Every time I take it out someone gives thumbs up or asks about it.  If I could keep it longer I would, but space is an issue where I'm located and I don't want to put it in storage.  This car deserves to be driven and loved by someone who knows what it is and how special of a car it is.  I always try to be as brutally honest as possible in all my business on eBay.  I'm providing the most accurate information to the best of my knowledge.  3rd party inspections are welcomed as long as the company you hire comes to me.   Please note that we are taking about a 51 year old car and not a 2014.  Yes it runs and drives good and yes you can enjoy it right away without any work to it.  But its not a new car so please don't expect it to be one.

Conditions Report:

Powertrain: Solid 1600 runs strong and 4 speed stick shifts smooth.  I was told when I purchased it that the motor had been recently rebuilt. The only evidence that I have is the way it runs. Good power, No smoke, no smell & only leaks a little drop of oil. If you know VW's, you know they all leak.

Suspension: Car will pull to the left if you release your hand from the wheel.  Brakes work but are soft,  It may just need some adjusting.  Otherwise feels very smooth going down the road.  Tires have plenty of tread but are older.

Electrical:  The push button  headlights, tail & stop lights, wipers all work but the flashers and signals do not. The speedo doesn't operate either.  There is a radio in the car but its not working either.

Interior: Complete and in really good shape for its age.  The only noticeable wear is to the door cards as they have become weathered and worn.  Otherwise pretty sharp looking.

Paint and Body: Paint looks great from about 10 feet away.  Up close you will notice bubbles and some runs.  Body is very straight for the most part but has one noticeable dent above the drivers side rear panel.  The car also has a bit of rust on and around the doors and a little above the rear trunk lid.  I did not notice any major rust to the pans or other places than mentioned above.  Most of it is surface and I'm confidant that a qualified body man would be able to repair and remove most all of it.  The car also has an aftermarket sunroof which is a little bit of a turn off to the purest collectors.

Overall:  This is one cool very rare old car!  You never see these around and it catches a ton of attention if that's what your after.  The only thing that I would personally do to it if I was to keep it would be to work on the signals and brakes.  Otherwise, its a really clean weekend cruiser just as it sits.

More German automakers may be afoul of US emission standards

Wed, Sep 23 2015

Volkswagen has plenty of smoke to share, and that may mean fire for other German automakers that make diesel vehicles, says Automotive News. Earlier this month, European Federation for Transport and Environment said that BMW, Daimler's Mercedes-Benz and General Motor's Opel division are among other automakers that may have equipped their vehicles' diesel engines with similar software as VW's. That software was found to reduce emissions while a car is being tested for emissions and shuts down emissions-control systems during normal use. The European environmental group used data from the International Council on Clean Transportation. Automotive News notes that the European environmental group put out its own report earlier this month, before the VW scandal broke loose, but the report was pretty much overlooked. Now, VW is under fire after it was discovered that 2.0-liter diesel engines in the VW Jetta and Golf, and Audi A3, may be programmed to game the emissions system. VW sold almost a half-million diesel vehicles in the US during the past six years. Both BMW and Mercedes-Benz told Automotive News that the issue that befell VW doesn't apply to their diesel vehicles. Earlier this week, Volkswagen admitted its car ran the sneaky software, while the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has started a probe on the company. VW is setting aside more than $7 billion to pay for the alleged violations. Meanwhile, US taxpayers may have spent as much as $51 million a year to pay for subsidies related to VW's diesel vehicle sales in 2009 alone, according to the Los Angeles Times.

This classic VW bus packs Porsche power

Thu, May 14 2015

Appearances can be deceiving. The rolling embodiments of that principal we call "sleeper cars": ordinary-looking vehicles that pack a much bigger punch than you'd get by just looking at them. Take this classic VW bus, for example. Sure, it may have some racing graphics and upgraded rolling stock to tell you this isn't just any old van, but looking at it, you'd still have no idea what lies beneath the surface. That's where you'll find oily bits sourced from Porsches. And not from a 914, either. (That was as much a Volkswagen as it was a Porsche anyway.) No, this vintage 1962 VW T1 "Bulli" van packs the air-cooled, forced-induction flat-six from a 993 Turbo, driving 530 horsepower and 558 pound-feet of torque through the six-speed manual transmission from a 996 GT3 to 18-inch BBS alloys. It's the obsessive six-year project of Swiss customizer Fred Bernhard, who also used carbon fiber to cut the curb weight down to 3,300 pounds. The resulting light sleeper can top out at 143 miles per hour, in a vehicle with the aerodynamic profile of, well, a bus. It's called the T1 Race Taxi and is being showcased by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at the GTI-Treffen at Worthersee this year. Short of maybe the Renault Espace F1 concept, we can hardly imagine any other van we'd rather drive around the Nordschleife. Or just to pick up the kids from school.

New safety and connected features help distinguish VW's lineup

Sat, Aug 1 2015

Volkswagen may have wrested the title of world's largest carmaker away from Toyota this week, but the company still has some work to do in the United States. Despite its worldwide dominance, Volkswagen's American sales have languished. Unlike its red-hot Audi brand, mainstream Volkswagen sales have been afflicted by an assortment of maladies. An aging lineup, a reputation for mechanical gremlins and a lack of a competitive crossover vehicle have all hurt. In the US, the brand's cars claim only two percent of the overall market. As we reported earlier today, Volkswagen took steps this week to upgrade some broader aspects of its weaknesses here. At its Electronics Research Laboratory in Silicon Valley, the company announced it would make several advanced safety features and connectivity options available throughout the bulk of its lineup. Features that have long been available on its premium Audi cars will spread to its more economical offerings. In one big way, they will overstep their premium siblings. Volkswagen said Apple CarPlay, Android Auto (pictured below) and MirrorLink will all be available on a revamped infotainment system. Cars equipped with the new Car-Net-branded systems are arriving in showrooms now. Only last month, Hyundai became the first to offer CarPlay, debuting the smartphone-projection system in its 2015 Sonata. Chevy, Honda, and now Volkswagen, have quickly followed suit. On the safety-minded side, features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, park steering assist and automatic post-collision braking will be optional equipment on most of the brand's 2016 model-year cars. Previously, the features had only been available on the Touareg SUV. They're now available on most Golf variants, the CC, Jetta, Sportwagen and some Beetles. Though the Passat sedan is one of the company's most competitive cars, it was curiously absent from the announcements, though an update could come later this year. While the advanced safety equipment is a boon for motorists increasingly interested in the technology, Volkswagen also added some basic safety tech that's long been available in mainstream competitors' cars, adding features like blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning. One of the big differences consumers might note is the cost of the driver-assistance systems.
