Ladies & Gentlemen - I am proud to present you the '73 THANG...
This is one of the most unique VW Things you'll ever see...
It began life in Redondo Beach California - a total frame up restoration.
But... It wasn't built to VW Thing original standards...
It's better...
This THANG was built to be noticed... A true SoCal Hot Rod...
The entire chassis was Rhino Lined to prevent rust [that's why you don't see too many Things on the road...]
The Pioneer system has 1200 [not a misprint] watts of sound with twin sub-woofers. It can be quite loud...
All electrical elements are controlled via airplane inspired toggle switches.
Front wheels are 16" and rears are 20" on chrome rims.
Engine is bored out to a 1800cc monster with twin exhaust that sounds like no other THING...
Windshield is chopped.
Headlights are Angel Eyes with LEDs...
The back end rides on an air suspension...
There is a front grill [Things didn't come with a grill...].
There is custom work ALL over this car... Check out the engine cover and sub woofer covers - both done in steel spider webs...
There is a MOMO competition steering wheel with a custom hub adaptor made from billet aluminum...
The EMPI shifter was only on performance cars of the era...
Original build cost was over $20,000.00. Again, not a misprint.
I bought this car as a promotional vehicle for my business & it gets looks, smiles the thumbs up wherever you go...
I've taken it to car shows with Italian super cars and the THANG gets just as many admirers as the Lambos and Ferraris...
Whether you always wanted a THING or if you want a KILLER vehicle for your business, this is the one.
It will get you noticed.
If you've been watching custom THING prices lately, you'll know that my BIN price is a bargain.
Bid confidently. This car is the real deal. No nonsense. No disappointments. I have 100% positive feedback on 900+ transactions.
No time for drama.
This is the best warm / dry weather car I've ever owned [and I've owned many...].
It lives in a garage and has under 500 miles since the rebuild [I trailer it to events over 100 miles away]...
This is a singular chance to own something totally unique.
Happy Bidding!!!

VW to relax ambitious US sales targets?
Fri, 16 May 2014The Volkswagen brand sold 407,704 cars last year, a 6.95-percent decline compared to 2012, and it's down a further 8.36 percent through the end of April 2014 compared to this time last year. In order to to put the sales football between its Strategy 2018 goal posts, the brand would need to add 100,000 more sales every year to achieve the lofty 800,000-unit target. Coming to grips with how unreasonable that is, VW US CEO Michael Horn has said, "For now, we have to have realistic targets."
The reasons for the brand's slow-down are imprecise, but lots of folks are throwing lots of reasons around. Last November, VW Group Chairman Ferdinand Piech told Bloomberg, "We understand Europe, we understand China and we understand Brazil, [but] we only understand the US to a certain degree so far." Analysts say the brand hasn't had midsize and compact SUV offerings, especially an overdue retail version of the CrossBlue, and the ones it does have are priced too high for their segments. It "didn't introduce enough new engines, or alternative technologies or model variants" for the Passat and Jetta. It devoted so many resources to China that the US market suffered. It was being outspent two-to-one on advertising by competitors. Its J.D. Power dependability ratings aren't high enough to overcome its past. It "has never really taken the US customer seriously." And so on.
There's still no official admission of defeat concerning the target, but reading between the lines there are some VW execs that appear to accept it won't happen short of some deus ex machina. Still,
Volkswagen Golf voted 2013 European Car of the Year
Tue, 05 Mar 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf just went on sale in Europe, but it is already off to a promising start. Announced as the Geneva Motor Show kicked off, the newest Golf was named European Car of the Year for 2013 in dominating style over cars like the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86 twins, Volvo V40, Ford B-Max and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
According to Automotive News Europe, the MkVII Golf won handily over its rivals with a total of 414 votes. The Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 received 202 votes finishing in a distant second, while the Volvo V40 (189 votes), Ford B-Max (148 votes) and Mercedes-Benz A-Class (138 votes) round out the top five. The new Golf marks the third Volkswagen product to receive the prestigious award with previous cars including the MkIII Golf and the most recent iteration of the Polo.
Tanner Foust checks out his new VW Beetle GRC rally car
Thu, 11 Sep 2014Racing driver and Top Gear USA host Tanner Foust is a very busy guy. After all, he's competing in rounds of both Global Rallycross series and FIA World Rallycross Championship, not to mention his TV duties. However, we probably shouldn't feel too sorry for him, because his job puts him behind the wheel of some truly crazy machinery.
Case in point is his latest ride in Global Rallycross - the Volkswagen Beetle GRC. The German company claims that this all-wheel drive Bug makes around 540 horsepower from its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and can shoot to 60 in under 2 seconds. Plus, if this video is any indication, this Volkswagen sounds like a machine gun when throwing revs at idle, and it can do some wonderfully easy four-wheel drifts.
Previously, Foust was driving a VW Polo for Andretti Autosport in GRC, but the team unveiled the look of the Beetle GRC at the Chicago Auto Show. Now, Foust is finally getting to show off his new office to the public, and like VW's tagline for the new car claims, it's way hotter than Herbie.
