Up for sale is my 1982 VW Rabbit Diesel, I believe it is pretty much all stock, 1.6 L Diesel engine with 4 speed Transmission.  I believe this car has every option that VW offered for this car.  It has Air Conditioning, cruise control, power Steering, and a rear windshield wiper and squirt-er that work.  The Air Conditioning, Cruise control and power steering are not working but the car drives and starts great.  I got this car in December 2011, it had 209,000 miles on the odometer, I changed engine and transmission oil, air filter and I started driving it daily in January 2012 and the car never fail to start and i never plugged an engine heater in and it was outside the whole time. At about 215,000 miles i put new tie rods on it and had an alignment done. Put new tires on front.  At 218,000 miles i again changed oil, Air Filter and Fuel filter.  The car sit all this winter out side and was never used or started and about a month ago it started right up with no problems and no jump, I was amazed.  Then i decided that I would sell it and it would not start, i put in 4 new glow plugs and now it starts right up also just installed a new air filter.  The dash is cracked from the son and rear seats are worn thru i think from the sun, but i do have some black vinyl seats that go with it that came out of Cabriolet.

At 184,000 miles the previous owners records showed the car had a new timing belt, so it still has 16,000 miles before a timing belt is due.

I got mostly 40 MPG but the car does have to work hard and I try to drive the speed limit, which was mostly 65 where I was driving it.  For me this has been an amazingly reliable car, i would not hesitate to drive it any where, but it is a over 30 years old.     Feel free to ask me questions about this car.  I am selling it because I have three other Volkswagen s and am no longer using this one.

Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish

Wed, 10 Jul 2013

A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program

Tue, 04 Oct 2011

You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Help a couple drive their 1984 Vanagon around the world

Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.
