I have for sale my 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTi.  It has an aba block swap with a 1.8v head and it has a turbo, boosting 6psi.  I bought the car already with the swap and the turbo installed so I don't how much about the swap, mileage of the motor or any detail pertaining to the swap.  What I do know is that this car will bring a smile to your face when you step on it and the turbo kicks in.  Its a fun car to drive to say the least.

Mechanically speaking the car runs good.  Its starts right up every time with no issue.  The fuel tank needs to be replaced or the hose that's inside the tank needs to be replace as it dies every time I make a right turn when the tank is less than half, if your familiar with this cars you'll know that its common thing on vw's  those years.  I just keep the tank full. Also the car sometimes cuts of at 4500 rpms. Its probably the timing so I'll be timing it with a timing light in the next few days.  Other than that the car runs well.

Body is in the decent shape for the year.  Its the original paint and its mainly straight with just a couple dents and very little surface rust, see pics.  Overall in good shape for the year, will not need much body work.

Interior is also good,  it has the full Recaro front and back seats off a '92 GLi and they are in good shape without any tears.  They could use a good cleaning but that's it.  Door panels are good with no tears, a few cracks on the top cover. Roof panel is great, not sagging and the dome light turns on when you open either door as well as the trunk light.  Dash was replace so its not the original and the bezels that go around the radio and heater/ac controls is missing.  No radio or a/c. Front windshield has a crack on passenger side, rest of the glass is good. Speedometer does not work and rpms work sometimes.  Original steering wheel include in sale.

Suspension it has Neuspeed lowering springs and stock struts in front and kyb shocks in back, however one of the rear shocks is leaking and would need to be replaced.

Please keep in mind that this is almost 30 year old car and its not perfect.  I would consider this a project but a running one and it can also be a daily driver.  It is definitely a car worth restoring.  Those were my plans but things have change in my life and so have the plans for this baby.  My daily is an Audi TT and I enjoy driving this GTi as much as I do my TT, some people don't get it but it't true.  Car is currently registered with current tags until the end of this month.  I would love to keep it but at this time its not possible.

I have described the car to the best of my knowledge and I might have forgotten somethings.  I'll keep updating this post.  The car is being sold as is where is with no guarantee or warranty express or implied. If you are interested and have questions feel free to call or text me at 915-503-8427, you can also contact me through ebay.

Buyer is responsible for arraigning transportation at their expense.  Car is located in Heber City, UT.  If you are in the area and want to come and check it or want to send someone to inspect it feel free to contact me to set a time.

VW recalls another 6,700 vehicles over fuel leak [UPDATE]

Mon, Feb 2 2015

UPDATE: An earlier version of this post suggested that the expanded recall involved an additional 44,658 units, when VW tells us that is in fact the total number - adding a further 6,679 to the original recall of 37,979. The text below has been updated accordingly, with our apologies for the confusion. It was a little over a month ago that Volkswagen issued a recall for some 38,000 vehicles over a potential fuel leak. Now the German automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have expanded that recall, affecting even more vehicles for the same issue. The problem revolves around a sealing cap at the fuel rail, which could fail and cause fuel to leak into the engine compartment, thereby increasing the risk of a fire. This time around, VW is calling in a selection of Jettas, Passats, Golfs, GTIs, Beetles and Beetle Convertibles, all of them from the 2014 and 2015 model years (except the Golf and GTI, of which only 2015 models are being recalled). The recall now affects an estimated additional 6,679 units, which (in addition to the 37,979 recalled previously) brings the total up to 44,658 vehicles across the United States. RECALL Subject : Fuel Leaking Into Engine Compartment Report Receipt Date: JAN 23, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V028000 Component(s): FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE Potential Number of Units Affected: 44,658 Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. SUMMARY: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jetta vehicles manufactured March 28, 2014, to November 24, 2014, 2014-2015 Passat vehicles manufactured April 7, 2014, to November 18, 2014, 2015 Golf and GTI vehicles manufactured July 1, 2014, to November 20, 2014, and 2014-2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible vehicles manufactured March 31, 2014, to November 27, 2014. A sealing cap at the fuel rail may fail, allowing fuel to leak into the engine compartment. CONSEQUENCE: A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in a vehicle fire. REMEDY: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rails with new parts, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in early February 2015. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 24BL. Note: This recall expands and supersedes recall 14V-809 (Volkswagen recall number 24Bi) and only affects vehicles not previously repaired under that campaign.

New info on how VW, Porsche, Audi V6 TDI engine cheat works

Mon, Aug 8 2016

The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag is reporting that US investigators have found three pieces of software that work in concert to turn off the emissions control equipment in certain diesel models after a set period of time. The engine in question, the 3.0-liter TDI turbodiesel, was found in certain Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne models – the sale of which was suspended in the US late last year. Since most emissions compliance testing takes around 20 minutes, the software in the three VW Group models shuts off the emissions control equipment after 22 minutes, a straightforward end run around the testing. Remember that the 3.0-liter TDI engines aren't included in the big buyback and recall program announced for the smaller 2.0-liter, four-cylinder TDI engines. The 3.0-liter engines will likely get their own program, but we don't know when to expect it or exactly what it will look like. Last month, California rejected a proposed fix for the larger TDI engines, and VW went back to the drawing board. Since the company is unlikely to create two fixes, one for California and one for the rest of the nation, the company can't really proceed until they figure out a solution California will accept. The EPA hasn't officially commented on the report, and we don't know how Bild am Sonntag came across the information, but we'll be closely watching what emerges after this report. Related Video:
