Up for sale is my 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI rally car. This car is a proven winner that is very powerful and incredibly quick. It was first built to compete in Autocross, then road racing, and finally overhauled to compete offroad in rally events.
I bought this car 2 1/2 years ago in Massachusetts and competed in rally events all over New England and the Northeast claiming numerous podiums and wins. The car is set up to be extremely flexible and has been one of the most competitive cars across numerous terrains: gravel, mud, sand, ice, snow, and tarmac. Unfortunately, college came around and I had to hang up my helmet to complete my schooling. Since coming to Florida for school, I have ran the car at the Ivor Wingham Rally School in Starke, as well as at the Ocala National Forest where it turned hundreds of heads and attracted much attention.
After my last trip to the Ocala National Forest, I parked the car in the garage and mothballed my racing program. The car has been safely tucked away for almost a year now and I have decided that its time to sell her to someone who will enjoy and flog it since I just don't have the time.
As I've said, it is a BUILT and POWERFUL little bunny. The build sheet is as follows:
Full 6pt cage
Bilstein suspension valved for 500lbs front and 300lbs rear
Camber plates
Custom front sway bar
Custom 1/4 inch skid plate
Custom full underbody plates
1.8 block bored .05
High compression MAHLE pistons
Solid lifter head with TT heavy duty springs
TT Sport 280/276 camshaft (comes with spare 306 race cam)
TT adjustable cam gear
Audi 4000 throttle body
Ported intake from VW Corrado
020 close ratio trans from MKII
Quaife LSD
ACT stage 2 clutch/pressure plate
TT race headers
Three sets of tires and wheels:
Dunlop tarmac race tires on VW alloys
Hankook medium compound rally gravel tires on alloys
Carbide studded Winterforce snow/ice rally tires on steelies
Full safety system done by HMS Motorsport:
Corbeau race seats with Schroth Profi 6-pt harnesses
Custom drivers seat lowering/adjusting bracket (allows for any sized driver)
Battery relocated to rear hatch
Battery cutoff
Fire system in compliance with American Rally standards
Detachable Momo racing steering wheel w/ extended column
This is the perfect car for any level of driver in any discipline, I know this first hand because I used it to compete against the top-level drivers in New England/Northeast, while at the same time my brother and father used it in beginner events to learn the skills of auto racing.
I am looking to sell it for $4300 as-is. I will get it running (new battery, new gas, re-hang exhaust) and sell it for $5300 if the bids make that level.
Feel free to call or text me and I always welcome people coming by to check it out!

Volkswagen's emissions deception brings more scrutiny to entire industry
Tue, Sep 22 2015Volkswagen's emissions deceptions have hurt the entire auto industry's credibility with federal regulators. Days after the world's largest automaker confessed to installing software that circumvents emissions standards on approximately a half-million diesel vehicles in the United States, a top federal safety official says the company's dishonesty will force government officials to view the entire auto industry with heightened skepticism. "Your first question has to be, 'How extensive is it through the whole industry?' You don't know if it's a unique case or if other people are doing it," said Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "The unfortunate part is you're not going to worry about one person. It's extended to the entire industry. If they did it, someone else could do it." "They tell you one thing, you question it." - Mark Rosekind Rosekind's agency doesn't bear responsibility in investigating the emissions cheating. That falls to the Environmental Protection Agency, which served Volkswagen with a Notice of Violation on Friday that alleged the company's diesel vehicle equipped with 2.0-liter engines contained a defeat device that allowed the cars to detect when emissions testing was taking place. In normal driving situations, the cars spewed pollution at as much as 40 times allowable thresholds. But because of the emissions cheating, NHTSA wonders if the German automaker has been cutting corners on safety standards or disingenuous on safety-related discussions. Speaking at an auto-industry event in Novi, MI, on Tuesday, Rosekind indicated no information can now be taken at face value. He used the phrase "Question assumptions" several times in discussing the case. "Of course, question assumptions means, 'Is there some other safety element there that we're now going to have to investigate?" he said. As it did in the General Motors ignition-switch probe, the Department of Justice has initiated an investigation of Volkswagen and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce announced it will hold hearings on the cheating. For NHTSA, criminal cases complicate matters. The agency core function is to regulate safety, not conduct criminal investigations. But in the early going, their investigators may be the first ones to spot wrongdoing.
The hottest modern sports cars rendered as rally racers
Thu, Jan 14 2016The modern-day World Rally Championship a monumental amount of fun to watch – I should know, as I recently was lucky enough to head to the UK to watch WRC Wales Rally GB – but even the most monstrous of the current WRC cars are based on fairly pedestrian European hatchbacks. Back in the heyday of rally, the Group B era in the 1980s, much hotter cars were the basis of even more incredible competition machines, for the most part. Take the exotic Ford RS200, or the Lancia Delta S4 with its twin-charged engine. And the hatchback-based Group B cars were bonkers, too. So what would some of our favorite modern cars look like if Group B had never ended? A British site named CarWow hired an artist to reimagine everything from the Rolls-Royce Wraith to the Porsche 911 as a retro-inspired rally car, and they were kind enough to let us share the results in the gallery above. The gallery features an Alfa Romeo Giulia in Martini livery, an Audi TT in classic Ur-Quattro colors, a Fiat 500 Abarth sporting massive flares and a hood blister full of auxiliary lights, a new Ford Mustang in RS200 livery, a Lancia Delta in Alitalia colors, a Porsche 911 in Rothmans livery, a Renault-Alpine in classic blue, a Rolls-Royce Wraith tribute to the Jules cologne Corniche Coupe, and a relatively modern-looking VW Touran. So far, the favorite around the office is the incredible Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is an homage to the wonderful 300 SEL 6.8 AMG "Red Pig" that essentially put AMG on the map. Check out the gallery above and see which one you like the best. Related Video:
VW confirms new TDI for second half of 2014 in Golf, Jetta, Passat and Beetle
Tue, 18 Mar 2014Diesel lovers rejoice. Volkswagen is bringing the latest iteration of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine - dubbed the EA288 - to the 2015 model year Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle (2013 model pictured above) and Beetle Convertible, and the cars will be on sale in the second half of 2014.
While it shares its moniker with the old diesel, the new engine produces 150 horsepower, a 10-hp boost, and 236 pound-feet of torque. VW promises improved fuel economy as well, but it hasn't announced specifically what amount yet. The company claims that despite the same displacement, only the bore spacing is shared with the previous version. The mill includes new features like exhaust gas recirculation, an intercooler integrated into the intake manifold and low-friction camshaft bearings.
VW Group of America has had great success with diesels in the US recently. Vee-Dub and Audi sold 105,899 diesel-equipped models in 2013. It was the first time the group ever sold over 100,000 diesels in a year, and they accounted for 24 percent of sales. Scroll down to read the full press release about the announcement.
