This is a vehicle I purchased several months ago with the intention of getting it running, registering it, and driving.  Things just didn't work out and now health problems make it impossible (I'm 78).

It has a gasoline engine completely installed, but never started.  It looks to be all there including the computer.  Would be a good candidate for diesel engine completion, or just run it as it is.

The body has NO rust thru anywhere and the paint is very good for a vehicle of this age.  There is no indication of any wrecks or major damage (only dings in the paint.)  Look at the pictures.

The title has been lost, so it will be sold with a bill of sale only. The brakes and clutch seem to work as they should, the glass is all good, and the windows roll up and down.  The tires look somewhat rotten but they still hold air.  The bed is good (no rust thru) and it has a nice camper shell.  The VIN number shown is incorrect.  Ebay requires a 17 digit VIN and this truck only has 16 digits, so they would enter it.  I substituted another 17 digit number to satisfy EBAY.  The correct VIN number is 1v1kg0172cv032362 if that is of any interest to you.  Sorry.

I have put a very low reserve price on it and could hold it here for a  short period of time.  I will require a  deposit of $250 within 24 hours of auction ending, with the remainder due when its picked up.

I will try to answer any questions you may have (I've had a couple of VW diesels in the past, and they get fantastic mileage.  I do have it for sale locally, and reserve the right to end the auction if it does sell locally.

Oh, by the way, it's a 4 speed.

Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.

Next Volkswagen Golf R to get 286 horsepower?

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't launched in the United States just yet, but we're already setting our sights on the range-topping R model. According to Autocar, the next Golf R will be more powerful than the current version, producing 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful production Golf ever.
Powering the new Golf R will be a further evolution of Volkswagen's well-liked 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, and when mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the hotter hatch will reportedly be able to sprint to 62 miles per hour in five seconds flat. That's over half a second quicker than the current US-spec model.
Other updates for the new Golf R include the addition of VW's Haldex 5 all-wheel-drive system found in the latest iteration of 4Motion. Furthermore, thanks to the use of lightweight materials, the new R is expected to weigh in around 2,650 pounds - that's a massive 675 pounds less than the current US-spec car. The exhaust has reportedly been reworked to provide more aural delight, as well.

VW Up Buggy may be headed to showrooms

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

Volkswagen showed six conceptual takes on its Up at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, one of those being the Up Buggy. Although few will probably remember it, VW has not forgotten it, applying for a patent for the Meyers Manx revival roadster way back in March 2012 and being approved in June of this year, according to a report in Autocar. That will give the automaker a 14-year lock on the design while it decides whether to move forward with a reboot of its past.
A patent doesn't mean the Up Buggy will ever move beyond the sheet-of-paper stage, but Autocar says VW is studying the market to see if a production version is feasible. We can't see North America ever getting it, but even so, we wouldn't complain if they made it - especially if they put an exposed engine in back that was set off by 18-inch-long twin tailpipes jutting straight up into the air. However, for a company that aims to be the world's number-one automaker by 2018, a niche vehicle for its mass-market brand would be a surprising use of resources.
