2004 VOLKSWAGEN R32 AWD

Listed for sale

This fully-loaded Deep Blue 2004 R32 is likely the most pristine example currently listed for sale in the United States. With only 87,487 miles, R32 is suitable for an investment car or daily transport if the owner chooses to enjoy it. This car was never once driven in winter road conditions and was exclusively used during sun shining days. Arguably the best Volkswagen ever made, this 1 of 5,000 factory race car will surely hold its value given it's combination of ultra-low production numbers, manual six-speed gearbox, 4-Motion all-wheel drive and the legendary 3.2L DOHC 24v power-plant derived from the $100,000 Phaeton Sedan.

The exterior:

of this R32 is Volkswagen's Deep Blue and the paint quality is exceptional. As this car was always garaged, all panels and surfaces exhibit a deep gloss and the Blue reflects sunlight magnificently. The exterior condition of this car is unmatched by any 2004 R32 I have ever seen. Period. The 18' wheels are coated in STI Gold and are in Excellent condition at all four corners with Nearly Brand New only 500 miles on them, Continental Extreme Contact DWS Tires. All glass and mirrors are perfect with no hazing or scratches of any kind.

The interior:

of this car is nothing short of factory perfect. The 2004 R32 had only one option (Heated Koenig Leather Racing Seats) and this vehicle has them. As the car has 87,487 miles on the body, and since I rarely carried passengers, the leather interior shows like brand new. The carpet and floor mats are in equally impressive shape. I still have the leather owner's binder with the .:R Emblem on it, as well the original window sticker As do all R32's, this car has the Remarkable Monsoon 8 Speaker Stereo and it provides Premium Quality Audio. Tobacco use never allowed in car, of course. THIS IS A SMOKE-FREE VEHICLE!

The drive train:

of this vehicle is perfect as well. Mobil 1 Full-Synthetic was used at all recommended intervals and it drives exactly as a new car would. While this car was never raced, in normal driving conditions throttle response is crisp and powerful and the 4- Motion AWD provided tremendous grip while maintaining excellent road manners. This amazing vehicle is also equipped with an EIP street series, stainless steel cat back exhaust system, The sound is 2nd to none, and you can't no longer acquire this amazing exhaust system. Unlike the Lancer EVOs and Subaru STIs of it's day this car was a German-Engineered Gentleman's Racer.

The Mods:

- Brand new OEM rotors all around and Hawk pads.
- Stainless brake lines, Super Blue racing DOT fluid
- GIAC 93 oct tune (330HP)
- K&N drop in Air Filter

Recharge Wrap-up: VW exec predicts EVs with 375-mile range

Wed, Oct 8 2014

Volkswagen says EV ranges over 300 miles aren't too far in the future. Plug-in hybrids are merely a bridge to all-electric mobility becoming more practical for people who need to travel longer distances, according to Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen's head of powertrain development. Energy density is increasing rapidly in new batteries. Speaking about the e-Golf, Neusser says, "I expect the next generation in 2015-17 will increase to around 300 km [186 miles] and the following step will be around 500-600 km [310-372 miles]." Neusser also says he believes that charging infrastructure will improve to catch up with these more advanced batteries. Read more at Motoring. BMW is offering higher incentives for the all-electric i3 than the range-extended version. More buyers are opting for the i3 REx, with its 78 extra miles of range. So, to move the standard i3 (which is already cheaper), BMW is offering $2,000 in incentives for October - double what is offered for the i3 REx. The added incentives help close the price gap between the BMW and other EVs with similar ranges. The deals won't last long, though. According to New Jersey BMW salesman Manny Antunes, BMW's current incentives are "as aggressive as they're going to get" for a while. Read more at Green Car Reports. Honda is changing its research and development process for all cars after a series of Fit Hybrid recalls. The hybrid version, which makes up more than half of all Fit sales in Japan, was the subject of four recalls within nine months. In response, Honda will change the way it develops cars worldwide, with one extra "gate" to pass in the process. Honda will do prototype testing earlier in the research process to see how separately developed components work together before moving onto the car's development phase. It will add time and cost to making cars, but Honda hopes it will help prevent problems - like those that come with a flurry of recalls - down the road. Read more at Automotive News. Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes also under diesel emissions scrutiny

Sat, Oct 10 2015

The controversy over Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal isn't limited to the US. In Europe, where diesel engines are far more popular, the issue is shining a harsh light on the NEDC emissions test. As already known, the evaluation does a poor job of reflecting real-world production of NOx, and it appears a significant number of automakers are affected. The Guardian in the UK has been reporting on real-world test results from a company called Emissions Analytics. After the latest round of checks, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi were found to generate far more NOx than they should. The newspaper also published similar results for Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Citroen, VW, and Audi. On average, the figures are about four times over the limit of producing the pollutant. Unlike VW and its defeat device, these automakers aren't actually breaking the rules. The vehicles perform up to the NEDC lab test for emissions, but those results simply aren't translated to the street. "The VW issue in the US was purely the trigger which threw light on a slightly different problem in the EU - widespread legal over-emissions," Nick Molden from Emissions Analytics said to The Guardian. A big fight to decide the future of this issue appears to be on the horizon. Automakers claim that they can't meet the next round of tightening emissions regulations and are asking for compromises. Although, spokespeople for Mercedes and Honda told The Guardian that the brands would be in favor of the stricter rules. Meanwhile, some European governments began backtracking their support of diesels well before this scandal came to light. The added scrutiny certain hasn't helped the future of the oil-burner. Carmakers say they 'can't meet' Euro 6 emissions targets

Sun, Oct 4 2015

UPDATE: A previous version of this story listed Euro 6 requirements in kilograms per kilometer. This was incorrect. The correct unit is grams of NOx per kilometer, or g/km. The story has been edited accordingly. Well, the timing of this is not good. In the midst of Volkswagen's emissions cheating scandal, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) is claiming it won't be able to hit the stringent Euro 6 nitrogen oxide standards currently slated for the end of the decade. Currently, European legislators are set to begin requiring tougher emissions standards by 2017. Standards would be ramped up until 2020, when all new cars sold across the pond would be required to emit just 0.080 kilograms of nitrogen oxide per kilometer. That's too tough for automakers, though. Citing an "EU insider," AutoExpress reports that automakers are asking for conformity factors, which is a fancy way of saying they want easier standards. The automakers are requesting a conformity factor of 2.75 from 2017 to 2020, and a factor of 1.7 in 2020. What that means is that by 2020, new diesels would be allowed to emit 1.7 times the 0.080 g/km standard, or 0.136 g/km. While that might not be all that bad, if automakers were granted the 2.75 conformity factor, new diesels from 2017 wouldn't even be eligible for today's Euro 5 classification, AE claims. Far and away the most astonishing thing here though, is the way the ACEA is viewing the VW diesel scandal. According to AE, the EU insider said automakers across the pond think there's "a US conspiracy against European diesels." Yep. Volkswagen installed software on millions of vehicles to cheat emissions tests and it's somehow an American conspiracy. That makes loads of sense. To put it simply, automakers don't think their diesels will be able to hit European standards, so they're asking for a break. Whether European legislators go along with it remains to be seen.
