This is a clean and well maintained 2005 VW Passat GL Wagon with the 2.0L Turbo Diesel. I purchased the car with approximately 93,000 miles on it 16 months ago. I have full service records since that time and performed quite a bit of preventative maintenance. The car has just rolled past 115,000 miles and the money has been invested to keep it on the road for much longer.
The car was a daily driver and very economic, often running just above 40mpg on the highway. It has a smooth comfortable ride, especially on the highway. I registered the vehicle in LA and then moved to TX and registered it here. We have just purchased another vehicle so we no longer have a spot in the garage for this car. Tough to let it go after putting so much money in to it and knowing she's set to run another 100,000 miles worry free.
I replaced the factory radio with a Kenwood DNX6990HD which has built-in Garmin Navigation, Pandora and iPod control, DVD Playback, Bluetooth streaming audio and hands-free calling (cost $999.99 new). The speakers have also been upgraded. Great sounding system which brings newer luxuries to this Passat.
Here's the list of major work that I have had done:
NEW Timing belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt roller, water pump
NEW Torque convertor
NEW CV axles, front struts, rear shocks, control arms, front rotors, brake pads, ABS Wheel Sensor
NEW Thermostat and auxiliary fan
NEW Turbocharger boost hoses
Most recent maintenance: Replaced Fuel and Oil Filter, Changed oil and performed Brake fluid flush @ 112,525miles.
Known issues: the car has intermittently displayed "Emissions Workshop" and the technician identified the air intake motor voltage as the cause. Directly testing the motor showed voltage in normal range. There is no effect on the engine performance when this fault is displayed. If the air intake motor actually failed the engine wouldn't run. I saw no need to change out the part as the fault was infrequent.
I can answer any specific questions you may have about the car, so please ask.

Volkswagen Cross Up! headed for production after Geneva reveal
Wed, 13 Feb 2013The last time we saw the Volkswagen Cross Up!, it was sitting out in the snow in prototype form, but the next time we'll see this slightly more rugged version of the diminutive Up! hatchback will be when it makes its production debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Looking like a micro-crossover with its raised ground clearance and black cladding, the Cross Up! will be the fourth "Cross" model for VW (after the CrossPolo, CrossGolf and CrossTouran) when it goes on sale this summer in mainland Europe (UK sales remain up in the air and US sales are highly unlikely).
Overall, the styling of the production Cross Up! has stayed fairly true to the 2011 concept car, including the front and rear fascias that offer a more rugged look, stocky 16-inch wheels and roof rack side rails. Inside, this model will get unique interior enhancements such as "Cross Up!" sill plates and an instrument panel available in red, black or silver. Like the regular Up!, the Cross Up! is powered by a 74-horsepower, 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission, and it doesn't look like all-wheel drive will be part of the picture. For more details on the upcoming Cross Up!, check out VW's press release posted below.
VW Golf GTI wrung out by Chris Harris
Thu, 27 Jun 2013Enthusiasts like nothing more than to crucify modern interpretations of their favorite performance models for failing to live up to some imagined ethos. Even the Volkswagen GTI has suffered its fair share of slings and arrows for growing in size and curb weight. Chris Harris recently spent some time with the all-new MK VII GTI to find out if growing up means giving up on what makes the machine so special.
Judging by his comments, Harris certainly doesn't think so. Yes, the new GTI is considerably more comfortable than its predecessors, but that's hardly a bad thing. The multitude of driving modes actually seem to add depth to the car rather than simply try to force one tool to do many jobs, and Harris even finds the machine's electronic power steering tolerable. As a result, Harris goes so far as to call the Volkswagen GTI "one of the best cars to actually own." How's that for high praise? You can watch the video for yourself by scrolling below.
Volkswagen hatches hotter GTI in Geneva
Tue, 05 Mar 2013The all-new seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf hasn't even launched here in the United States, but over in Geneva, we're already getting our first glimpse at the hotter GTI hatchback. The fancy new Mk VII Golf is already off to a healthy start with positive reviews in Europe, and we have no doubt that this next GTI will work hard to regain its title as king of the hot hatches.
The big news for this generation of GTI is that for the first time ever, Volkswagen is actually offering two different power grades for the model, both relying on the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. Standard cars pack 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but an optional performance pack ups the horsepower number to 230. Hitting 60 miles per hour takes 6.5 seconds (6.4 with the performance pack) and top speed is quoted at 153 mph (or 155 with the performance kit). Volkswagen will continue to offer the GTI with both six-speed manual and dual-clutch transmissions.
On the visual front, the sub-3,000-pound GTI adds the usual bit of hot hatch aggression over the standard Golf, and those changes carry over to the interior with a flat-bottomed wheel and, of course, plaid seats. She's certainly a looker, and while some of us do find the new Golf's design to be a bit staid and evolutionary, the enhancements for the GTI indeed tug on our enthusiast heart strings.
