Up for auction is this VERY ORIGINAL 1973 Karmann Ghia.  This is the second to last year that these vehicles were produced.  This vehicle has always been in Southern California from day one and has been with this current owner for the past 20+ years.  She is completely original and has been painted only once since new.  She belonged to an older lady who is unfortunately now unable to drive her anymore.  She was always serviced by the same mechanic for the past 15+ years.  The lady owned multiple Karmann Ghia but this was her beloved daily driver.

There are several pictures of this vehicle shown in this ad, please take your time and inspect all of them carefully.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask us directly.  We will gladly accept any request for a personal inspection of this Ghia.  She has been sitting in this state for the past few years but it has been kept current with the registration.  Below is a link to many pics of this Ghia

73 Karmann Ghia

The engine runs smooth as depicted by the video within this ad and it’s not tired or in need of a rebuilt.  She could use a tune up and some minor refreshing.  The vehicle does not smoke, or produce any odors that would indicated this vehicle needs extensive mechanical attention.

The transmission, a 4 speed that is similar to that of the beetle, shifts perfectly with no issues.  The vehicle drives smoothly and has Centerline wheels and over 75% tread left on the tires.

The interior definitely needs refreshing, but all components of the interior are there and complete.  With just an interior refresh, this vehicle could be a BEAUTIFUL Ghia that will turn heads and also a functional daily driver that will keep appreciating day after day.

This vehicle is being offered by an independent Automobile representative for the current owner.  California Sales tax and registration fees will apply to the winning bidder if he/she reside within the state of California.  She is being offered in her "AS IS, WHERE IS" condition with NO WARRANTIES IMPLIED or STATED. We encourage you to stop by and inspect this vehicle first hand prior to bidding.  ALL SALES ARE FINAL,  We do not offer returns so PLEASE do your due diligence properly and ask any and all questions prior to the auction end or feel free to come by or request to have it inspected.  If you bid and win, we will hold you responsible for completing the transaction.  If the transaction is not completed within 5 business days, we reserve the right to relist the vehicle, or send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder.  All Feedback will be left automatically after the winning bidder posts his/her feedback.   If you are the winning bidder, we require a $500 nonrefundable deposit within 48 hours. This deposit will be deducted from the total balance owed.  If we do not receive a deposit or commitment to complete the transaction within 5 business days, we will assume that you are not interested in the item and will initiate a nonpaying bidder complaint with eBay.

IN PLAIN ENGLISH, PLEASE COMMUNICATE WITH US SO THAT WE CAN DO OUR BEST TO SERVE YOU.

Shipping is the sole responsibility of the winning bidder.  However, if you do need assistance with a shipper, we can recommend a few.

VW quite interested in solid-state batteries for EVs

Tue, Mar 24 2015

Volkswagen is about to make a decision about which advanced battery technology the automaker will seriously investigate to give its electric vehicles more range. VW will decide by July if it will use solid-state batteries made by US-based QuantumScape Corp. in future EVs, according to Bloomberg News. Last year, VW bought a five-percent stake in QuantumScape, which was founded by ex-Stanford University researchers. The lure is that QuantumScape's solid-state batteries may provide a single-charge range of as long as 430 miles. That's more than three times the current range of the VW e-Golf electric vehicle the company recently started selling to the public and is substantially longer than the single-charge range of the Tesla Model S electric sedan. The batteries are also fireproof, making VW's potential decision one with an eye towards more vehicle safety. Solid-state battery technology, in which solid lithium electrodes are used instead of liquid electrodes such as those in lithium-ion batteries, are the subject of research at other automakers and suppliers as well. Toyota says they could be here by 2020. Recently, the cordless vacuum cleaner maker Dyson acquired a $15-million equity stake in Michigan-based battery maker Sakti3 with the idea of using the startup's solid-state batteries in its products. General Motors also has a minority stake in Sakti3, which was spun off from the University of Michigan.

Weekly Recap: Mercedes, Volkswagen spend big as import automakers invest in North America

Sat, Mar 14 2015

Import automakers are on a building frenzy in North America as resurgent car sales have prompted companies to expand their manufacturing footprints to meet rising demand. That was evidenced this week when Mercedes-Benz announced plans to build a $500-million factory to produce the Sprinter commercial van, and Volkswagen confirmed a whopping $1-billion investment to expand its massive plant in Mexico. Meanwhile Jaguar Land Rover reportedly wants to build a factory in North America, but not for at least three years, and Hyundai is said to be expanding in the southern United States. The common thread in all of this expansion? Trucks, time and money. Mercedes wants to capitalize on the burgeoning work van segment in the United States and will break ground in 2016 on a 200-acre site in Charleston, SC, to build the next-generation Sprinter. The site will have a paint shop, body shop and an assembly line, and 1,300 people will be employed when production ramps up. Why do this, when Mercedes has immense van operations in Germany? It's cheaper to build in the US for the US market. Building locally allows Mercedes to avoid import taxes, forego a complex shipping process that involves partially disassembling German-built Sprinters and naturally, reduces the time it takes to deliver finished trucks to their buyers. "This plant is key to our future growth in the very dynamic North American van market," Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, said in a statement. He was speaking about Mercedes and vans, but another German automotive giant, Volkswagen, had similar motives for its mammoth expansion plans in Puebla, Mexico. The added space and production capacity will allow VW to build a three-row version of the Tiguan, and provide another crossover for its US lineup that's light on SUVs. The current Tiguan has two rows. The factory will be able to churn out 500 units daily of the larger variant, and they will be sold in North and South America. It will arrive in the US in mid-2017, a spokesman told Autoblog. VW also plans to build another crossover, a midsize seven-passenger vehicle, at its growing Chattanooga, TN, site. "Localization has become key to safeguarding our competitive position on the global market, and manufacturing the Tiguan in Mexico will bring production closer to the US market," Michael Horn, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, said in a statement.

VW beams in Star Trek stars to promote e-Golf EV

Tue, Oct 7 2014

Volkswagen just set its e-mobility commercial phasers on stunning. The German automaker has cast Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock of Star Trek fame (i.e., actors William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy) in a new advertisement for its growing stable of electric vehicles. Even though it's in German, we think you can get the idea. VW went Hollywood and cast the two veteran actors in a futuristic-themed 45-second ad, which sees Shatner cruise up in the e-Golf (with a toothy Trek-fan kid in tow) while Nimoy rocks the XL1 and the Trek theme blares in the background. Forget for a moment that the kid in the commercial wasn't even born when Shatner started pitching for Priceline, let alone the original Trek series and just enjoy the wholesome good humor of Shatner saying that the electric powertrain is just like the one in a spaceship. If you've got any familiarity with Spock, you should be able to understand his punch line, too. Of course, if you'd rather your German vehicle advertisements were set in the Star Wars universe, we recommend clicking here. VW will bring the e-Golf to the states in November at a price of $35,445, about $6,500 higher than the Nissan Leaf's starting pricetag. You can see the new ad and a number of related behind-the-scenes videos (in English) below. Our Quick Spin of the E-up! are available here. This content is hosted by a third party.
