Ok Boys and Girls!! Here is my baby up for sale so here's the blah blah blah stuff:

1957 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe. Euro Model, Originally Trout Blue.
The car is currently not running but is rolling. Cali Car for a Long time, I even have the Back Plates that were on her from back in the day.

According to kglowlightregistry, this is the 31st oldest 1957 Karman Ghia in the world.

Numbers matching body, chassis, and doors, with original floor pans.

Body is in amazing shape. Rockers are solid, no flex in the body. No rust except light rust in wheel wells.

The car was wrecked in the front in the late 50s or 60s. The repairs were done properly, hammering it out. It looks like it’s from the dealership. The front clip IS THE ORIGINAL, replacement parts were not welded in.

Car was repainted in the late 80s with period correct color and paint.

All glass is original except front windshield, it is new.
All new seals are included. Windshields are block moulded, with the slit for the chrome trim.
All chrome is included, including very rare Lemmertz beauty ring repops.
Original steering wheel is NOT cracked.
Original seats, but has been recovered.

The engine was rebuilt, but not run at all nor installed in the vehicle. Engine is correct 36hp.

Heat exchangers and J-tubes were powdercoated.

Heads were fully rebuilt, not cracked. New valve seats, valves, and springs. New piston rings. Carburetor was rebuit, correct 28PICT with manual choke. Fuel pump rebuilt.

All tins were cleaned, sprayed with rust inhibitor internally, and painted with 500 degree VHF paint, satin black. All tins are included.

New copper lines.
Electrical system is still 6 volt. Generator and starter have been professionally rebuilt and tested working. New points and distributor cap. Original Bosche distributor.
Transmission is original to the car.

Tons of dealer optional parts - Sapphire 1 AM radio, cruiser pedal, Oil temperature gauge, fuel sender, Albert swan-neck mirror, original spare and jack, wiper fluid bag....
LOTS MORE!

New parts obtained: sound/temp insulation, headliner, full carpet kit (charcoal grey, correct for the car), interior chrome trim, pedal covers, door, decklid, body seals, mud guards, fuses, lots more.

I am including the following documentation:

Receipts on all parts, Bentley repair manuals, VW “Birth Certificate”, Title

95% of all parts needed to complete the restoration have been collected, just need time which I don't have. The main item missing is the (very simple) electrical bundle.

I will not part the car out. Do not ask!!

In 2012, a 1958 Ghia, with a Judson Supercharger, fully restored, sold at auction for 80k. This car does not have a Judson, but can reasonably be worth close to 40k when restored.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions for information or pictures about any piece of the car.

***This is the rarest of the rare in the VW world. Only one or two come up for sale every few years and this one in particular by far is in the best condition. It is definately a must for the VW collector to have this in the collection. Consider the history of this car, these were hand formed, EARLY PRODUCTION CAR!! February 1957 production.
I know what I have and so do you. Look at the low lights that are on here and see what they are going for. Pay close attention to age, condition and price. Mine is the oldest one on here. Feb 57 build date. Opportunities like this come once in a blue moon, so take advantage of it, it will not come again!! these cars are super rare and desirable, so god luck, and remember the buy it now guarantties you own it.

Recharge Wrap-up: First VW e-Golf in US up for auction, meet Project Ain't Fuelin'

Tue, Oct 14 2014

Volkswagen is auctioning the first e-Golf in the US to raise money for Global Green USA. The auction is live now, and bidding goes until 3:30 pm Eastern on October 29. Global Green USA will use the proceeds to help find solutions to climate change, and the winner will get to enjoy emissions-free driving before the car e-Golf goes on sale in November. If you don't live in or near California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington DC, you might want to sit this one out, as the car will only be available to pick up at dealers in those initial launch states. Go bid now, or learn more in the press release below. Berlin, Germany will use Solaris electric buses for a complete bus line in 2015. The downtown line will run 3.8 miles between Zoologischer Garten Station and Sudkreuz. The transport operator Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) will use four of the Solaris e-buses for the test, each about 39 feet long. The buses use a 200-kilowatt inductive charging system at the ends of the line to recharge in just a few minutes. The government-funded test runs through 2016, but BVG pans to use the electric buses beyond that timeline. Read more at Green Car Congress. The American Petroleum Institute (API) is worried that the Obama administration will use ethanol requirements to influence a Senate race in Iowa. In the midst of a close race against Republican Joni Ernst, Representative Bruce Braley, the Democratic candidate, is urging Obama to reject a cut in the Renewable Fuel Standard. The November election approaches, meanwhile the EPA continues to delay issuing an ethanol requirement for the year, with or without its proposed 16-percent reduction. Rejecting the cut could help get farmers and ethanol producers on the side of Braley. "We are very concerned that the signals we are seeing from the administration is that the political calculations are outweighing sound fuels policy," says API's Bob Greco. Read more at Businessweek. Project Ain't Fuelin' aims to fix up old cars to return them to original fuel economy, and then surpass it. Episode 3 of Valvoline's Under The Hood video series features Daniel Gray of MPGomatic, who is doing just that to a 1999 Honda Civic HX Coupe. He aims to get 50 mpg out of the old Civic by tuning it up, tinkering with the aerodynamics, switching to more efficient tires and other modifications.

MotorWeek recalls the glory days of the VW Cabriolet

Sun, Apr 26 2015

Remember the car that the rich, very attractive girl in your high school got on her 16th birthday? Was it a Volkswagen Cabriolet? But time marches on, and the boxy convertibles have attained a certain quirky coolness in the modern day. MotorWeek weighs in with a look at the 1989 model in the latest entry in its Retro Review series. MotorWeek actually comes away rather impressed with the Cabriolet, especially its handling. The show doesn't even complain about the big roll bar over the center of the car that has always looked more like a basket handle than a safety aid. Host John Davis must have enjoyed driving the droptop VW, too – despite his very '80s windbreaker and polo shirt ensemble, he was sporting quite the tan in this clip. The small, inexpensive convertible segment has largely disappeared today, but as MotorWeek shows by comparing the Cabriolet to the Chrysler LeBaron and Chevrolet Cavalier, it wasn't always this way. Take a ride in VW's droptop to see how it scores.

VW, Fiat, Mercedes could be CNG winners in Europe

Fri, Dec 12 2014

Fiat ads in the US try to play up the exotic, sexy side of Italian culture. On the home front in Italy, however, passenger-vehicle sales are marked by something less edgy and quite a bit more practical: the growth of compressed-natural-gas (CNG) powered car sales. In fact, Italy is leading a group of European countries where CNG sales are on the upswing and may be benefiting automakers like VW, Fiat and Mercedes-Benz, according to Automotive News. VW started sales of its Golf TGI natural-gas vehicle this year – the company's fourth in Europe – while Mercedes-Benz added a natural-gas B-class model. Fiat accounts for about 50 percent of CNG vehicles sold on the continent. In all, Europe's CNG sales through September totaled about 67,000, up seven percent from a year earlier, Automotive News Europe says, citing research firm JATO Dynamics. And the number of CNG vehicles on Europe's roads could jump tenfold within the next decade. The draw is a combination of lower refueling prices and a CNG drivetrain that typically emits less CO2 than diesel vehicles. As for Italy, about five percent of new-vehicle sales are CNG. To put that into perspective, hybrids, battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and diesels combined to account for about 4.2 percent of US vehicle sales last year.
