NO RESERVE AUCTION FOR MY 2005 VW JETTA DIESEL 4 DOOR SEDAN. THIS IS MY WORK VEHICLE, AS IM A PILOT, AND HAVE BEEN TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES OFTEN TO BASE OF ASSIGNMENT. RECENTLY, I'VE BEEN ASSIGNED TO A BASE THAT IS 20 MINUTES FROM MY HOME, SO IM READY FOR A TRUCK NOW. THE VW HAS SERVED ME WELL. I HAVE REPLACED ALL FLUIDS INCLUDING THE TRASMISSION GREASE TO FULL SYNTHETIC. I RUN MOBIL 1 IN THE ENGINE WITH LUCAS OIL STABILIZER, FUEL STABILIZER EVERY FOURTH TANK OF DIESEL. THE CAR HAS NEW TIRES WITH APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES. A/C, HEATER, HEATED SEATS, ELECTRIC SEATS AND ALL AMENITIES WORK AS THEY SHOULD. I REPLACED THE BATTERY TWO MONTHS AGO. THE AVERAGE FUEL MILEAGE IS 45-47 MPG, DUE TO THE FACT IM ON INTERSTATE. AROUND TOWN, WORSE I HAVE SEEN WAS 42 MPG. THE EXTERIOR IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, A SMALL AMOUNT OF PAINT HAS CHIPPED OFF THE RIGHT FRONT AREA BY THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT. ONE HAS TO LOOK CLOSE TO SEE THE MISSING PAINT. A VERY GOOD CAR FOR ANYONE NEEDING A RELIABLE, GREAT FUEL MILEAGE VEHICLE. FEEL FREE TO FORWARD ANY QUESTIONS. THANKS |

CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over
Mon, 03 Sep 2012
After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.
Bentley considering diesel engine for new SUV
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Turns out, in case you didn't know, the rich are just like regular people. They too are concerned about the environment, even when tooling around town in their super-luxurious Bentleys. So the automaker is weighing the idea of offering a diesel engine in its SUV offering, which could help satisfy customers' demands for more fuel-efficient engines.
Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Autoblog in a roundtable interview at the Geneva Auto Show that the automaker is researching whether or not a diesel engine makes sense for the brand. Bentley, owned by the Volkswagen Group, could in theory use a diesel engine from anywhere in the Volkswagen Group family. We at Autoblog have hopes they'll revive the V10 TDI used in the VW Touareg until 2010, but ever-stricter emissions laws would likely make that problematic.
But rich people aren't so much like us that they'll be worried about petty things like pricing. Schreiber admitted the diesel engine could be a $15,000 option, which he said customers would probably find "acceptable." Given that the cheapest Bentley today starts at $177,000, typical customers probably won't be diddling around worrying about an extra 15 grand.
This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Nov 2014As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
