Year:2006 Mileage:258764
Location:

Friendsville, Tennessee, United States

This vehicle is a very clean car with 258,XXX miles and typical wear for that mileage.  A few scratches and dings but nothing major.  It does have a power draw related to the radio but only when the radio fuse is plugged in.  Please do your research on this issue - we have not had it repaired, just driven it without the radio fuse in.  Otherwise, it dies if not started every other day or so.  Besides that, it is a very dependable vehicle that starts on the coldest days and gets 38+ mpg of diesel.  It's been a daily driver since we bought it two years (and almost 20,000 miles) ago and has had several upgrades and all the regular service, including the following:

  • Upgraded with Sachs solid fly wheel and clutch kit (good to approx. 300 foot pounds of torque!)
  • Serviced transmission with synthetic Mobil1 fluids at the time of clutch upgrade
  • Bora brand cam lifters, bearings and valve cover gasket
  • New timing belt, water pump
  • New serpentine belt
  • EGR delete, which causes check engine light to remain on
  • New boost control valve (Bora)
  • New 18" tires (only 10k miles on them) on VW factory rims
  • New rear brakes and rotors (Mintex brand); wasn't ready for Front pads, but those come with the car for when they're needed
  • Turbo was replaced with low-mileage, 60,000-mile turbo due to bad actuator
  • New battery
  • All oil changes done with Total 505.01 synthetic oil and Mann filters
  • New fuel lift pump (from dealer)
  • Comes with three keys, owners manual, original window sticker

Features:

  • Diesel
  • Heated front seats
  • Cold weather package
  • Sunroof
  • Power windows and locks
  • Power drivers seat
  • Manual 5-spd transmission
  • CD player
  • Cold air / Hot heat
  • Cruise control
  • Airbags

Bought this car as a project and have really enjoyed it.  We do have a loan on the car and will use funds from the sale to pay off the loan, after which we will be able to forward the title to the purchaser.  We'd be happy to share the bank's contact info with the buyer to arrange the transaction.  Feel free to ask questions if we've left anything out.  Thanks!

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR is black and yellow, black and yellow

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Way back in 1973, Volkswagen decided it was high time to take the loveable air-cooled Bug racing. No, it wasn't painted in Herbie colors - Volkswagen called its sport-tuned machine the Beetle GSR, "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer." Hence, the somewhat shocking paint scheme.
VW is bringing its sporty black and yellow Beetle back for 2014, and you can see live photos of it above. It's got a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood (that'd be the hood up front, unlike the car's forebear), and a six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission sends those ponies to the front wheels. Note that this car's output is up 10 horses on other turbo VWs, and the Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo for 2013. The 0-60 run takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 130 miles per hour.
Besides the in-your-face black and yellow paint, the GSR is outfitted with a large rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels shod with 235/40 tires. The bee-like hue carries over inside, with yellow stitching on black leather. Only 3,500 will be produced, each with its own unique plaque. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you're free to read through the press release below all the same.

Tanner Foust checks out his new VW Beetle GRC rally car

Thu, 11 Sep 2014

Racing driver and Top Gear USA host Tanner Foust is a very busy guy. After all, he's competing in rounds of both Global Rallycross series and FIA World Rallycross Championship, not to mention his TV duties. However, we probably shouldn't feel too sorry for him, because his job puts him behind the wheel of some truly crazy machinery.
Case in point is his latest ride in Global Rallycross - the Volkswagen Beetle GRC. The German company claims that this all-wheel drive Bug makes around 540 horsepower from its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and can shoot to 60 in under 2 seconds. Plus, if this video is any indication, this Volkswagen sounds like a machine gun when throwing revs at idle, and it can do some wonderfully easy four-wheel drifts.
Previously, Foust was driving a VW Polo for Andretti Autosport in GRC, but the team unveiled the look of the Beetle GRC at the Chicago Auto Show. Now, Foust is finally getting to show off his new office to the public, and like VW's tagline for the new car claims, it's way hotter than Herbie.
