2004 Volkswagen Golf TDI PD Diesel

Up for sale is my 2004 VW Golf TDI PD. I bought this vehicle several years ago in place of a 2007 Prius. I originally sold my Prius because despite it being a great vehicle, this actually got better fuel economy and was by far more fun to drive. I purchased it at that time with a salvage title with approximately 60k miles. I am a certified ASE Master Tech and have performed all maintenance myself. It has had religious oil changes as are recommended with the higher end and rare PD engine. Always using oil that is 505.01 spec , Pentosin Brand to be specific. During the time I have had the car I have made some tweaks. It currently sits on Porsche 911 Twist style wheels ($700), has Bilstein Performance Shocks and Struts ($600), H&R Lowering Springs ($300), Seibon Carbon Hood custom painted to match with Aerocatch hood latches ($2,000), MK5 R32 Style Front End ($400), Euro Glass Headlights ($250), Leather Seat Conversion from MK4 Jetta with Power Front Seats ($800), Pre Wire for Escort/Valentine One Radar Detector, Black Headliner and several other small bits done here and there. This is the only year of the Golf MK4 which offered the higher output TDI PD engine as well. My main reason for buying this specific car.

Unfortunately, last month on my way to work, a gentleman decided to make a left from the oncoming lane into the drivers rear door. This pushed me off the road somewhat and caused the shown body damage.

At this time, the front bumper has a crack in the lower lip, right front fender lightly dented, drivers door scratched, drivers rear door is dented and would need replacement unless you are handy with body work, the left C Pillar area is dented and will require body work to repair and the rear bumper cover is torn. Obviously, the left rear wheel is scuffed however still spins straight. I have already picked the vehicle up and checked underbody for damage and found none aside from alignment being needed now due to the total toe being out of spec on the rear and steering slightly off center from the left side wheel impact. Obviously as you can see from the inside, I have taken very good care of the car. Im in many ways sad to see it go however I frankly do not have the time right now to repair it and need the funds for much more important manners (ill family).

It regularly got 40+MPG often returning 600 Plus miles per tank. Prior to the accident, it didn't have any mechanical issues. In fact, after the accident I drove it for another week until I was able to finish engine work on my other vehicle. It is driveable in this condition should you not want to perform the body repairs BUT an alignment WILL be needed to correct the rear toe.

KBB on the vehicle places its value currently at $8,131. Given the fact that I could part it out for a substantial amount im not looking for lowballs despite the body damage. For anyone in the body repair field, this would be an excellent deal. If you have any questions please email, or text 828 275 9681 and I will be more than happy to send additional photos, answer questions, etc. Title is in hand.

In general, I will not ship this. If you need it shipped, you are free to make arrangements and I will work with your shipper when they come to get it. I will only accept cashiers check (certified funds) or cash in person, cash preferably.

Thank you for your time.

VW makes $9.2B offer for rest of truckmaker Scania

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Volkswagen owns or has controlling interests in three commercial truck operations: besides its own, VW began buying shares in Sweden's Scania in 2000 and now controls 89.2 percent of its shares and 62.6 percent of its capital, then bought into Germany's Man in 2006 - in order to prevent Man from trying to take over Scania - and now owns 75 percent of it. The car company has managed to work out 200 million euros in savings, but believes it can unlock a total of 650 million euros in savings if it takes outright control of Scania and can spread more common parts among the three divisions.
It has proposed a 6.7-billion-euro ($9.2 billion) buyout, but according to a Bloomberg report, Scania's minority investors don't appear inclined to the deal. Although effectively controlled by VW, Scania is an independently-listed Swedish company, and a profitable one at that: in the January-September 2013 period its operating profit was 9.4 percent compared to Man's 0.4 percent. Some of the other shareholders believe that Scania is better off on its own and will not approve the deal, some have asked an auditor to look into the potential conflict of interest between VW and Man, while some are willing to examine the deal and "make an evaluation based on what a long-term owner finds is good," which might not be just "the stock market price plus a few percent." The buyout will only be official assuming VW can reach the 90-percent share threshold that Swedish law mandates for a squeeze-out.
Many of the arguments against boil down to investors believing that Scania's Swedishness and unique offerings are what keep it profitable, and ownership by the German car company will kill that. (Have we heard that somewhere before?) If Volkswagen can buy that additional 0.8-percent share in Scania, perhaps its buyout wrangling with Man will give it an idea of what it's in for: "dozens" of minority investors in the German truckmaker have filed cases against VW, seeking higher prices for their shares. It is likely only to delay the inevitable, though. If VW is really going to compete with Daimler and Volvo in the truck market, it has to get the size, clout and savings to do so.

$1.4B hedge fund suit against Porsche dismissed

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

Investors have canvassed courts in Europe and the US to repeatedly sue Porsche over its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen in 2008 (see here, and here and here), and they have repeatedly failed to win any cases. You can add another big loss to the tally, with Bloomberg reporting that the Stuttgart Regional Court has dismissed a 1.4-billion euro ($1.95B US) lawsuit, the decision explained by the court's assertion that the investors would have lost on their short bets even if Porsche hadn't misled them.
Examining the hedge funds' motives for stock purchases and the bets that VW share prices would fall, judge Carola Wittig said that the funds didn't base their decisions on the key bits of "misinformation," and instead were participating simply in "highly speculative and naked short selling," only to get caught out.
With other cases still pending, the continued streak of victories bodes well for Porsche's courtroom fortunes, since judges will expect new information to consider overturning precedent. If there is any new info, it could come from the potential criminal cases still outstanding against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and CFO Holger Härter, who were both indicted on charges of market manipulation.

VW Up Buggy may be headed to showrooms

Tue, 02 Jul 2013

Volkswagen showed six conceptual takes on its Up at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, one of those being the Up Buggy. Although few will probably remember it, VW has not forgotten it, applying for a patent for the Meyers Manx revival roadster way back in March 2012 and being approved in June of this year, according to a report in Autocar. That will give the automaker a 14-year lock on the design while it decides whether to move forward with a reboot of its past.
A patent doesn't mean the Up Buggy will ever move beyond the sheet-of-paper stage, but Autocar says VW is studying the market to see if a production version is feasible. We can't see North America ever getting it, but even so, we wouldn't complain if they made it - especially if they put an exposed engine in back that was set off by 18-inch-long twin tailpipes jutting straight up into the air. However, for a company that aims to be the world's number-one automaker by 2018, a niche vehicle for its mass-market brand would be a surprising use of resources.
