I bought this 2002 VW Eurovan in April of 2013, planned on fully restoring it, loved
it so much, that we decided to upgrade to a Eurovan Camper. This van
had 167 K miles when we bought it--we have put 8K miles with absolutely
no problems. I bought it from a dealer that got the van as a trade in. I believed that the transmission was rebuilt because the housing looked very new. AAMCO has inspected the transmission, found no leaks, and no problems after a test drive. After I purchased the van, I had VW inspect the van, and nothing was wrong except for brakes ( which have been replaced at VW) They performed all of the initial routine maintenance. I have copies of the work order and report.
In the past 6 months/8000 miles since I have owned it, it has had == New brakes, new RV quality shocks, tune up, Air Cond updated, and a repair to the emissions control system (EVAP). It runs GREAT. Gets 21 on the hwy. It has been to Glacier Park, the Bad Lands, and Devils Tower since I bought it. Comfortable to sleep in. Has all the original curtains. Deluxe wheels. Interior is in great shape for it's age. Exterior has no major dents, but does have small rock chips. Tires are good. A couple of rock chips on the windshield, that are not in the field of vision. AM/FM cassette, automatic, deluxe heating control system for front and rear, gray velour seats with no tears. Mechanically, everything works except for seat a adjustment, an arm rest adjustment, and the cigarette lighter outlet on the dash. Non-smoker. One small, minor interior squeak that I am currently looking for. It is a pleasure to drive on the highway. Everything works--windshield wiper, washer, cruise control, all exterior lights, all interior lights, turn signal, bright lights, thermostat control, heat, AC, rear defroster, front defroster, radio, gauges, automatic windows, power locks, fog light, parking brake, sliding door, back hatch door, burns no oil, no leaks. Remote door locks work fine. Brakes and steering are fine. Front and rear seat mechanics work fine. Engine runs quiet and has plenty of power. Locking gas cap. TWO working ignition/remote keys ( replacement from VW is $450 each) Front and Rear plastic bumpers have significant paint scrapes probably from hitting curbs. Additional photos on request It really does not need anything--unless you want to upgrade the sound system. |

VW expanding in Chattanooga, hiring workers ahead of SUV production
Sat, Feb 28 2015Hey, look! We're writing about Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory and the focus isn't on yet another unionization effort. That's because the big news at the still-new factory is VW's plan to expand and increase its workforce in preparation for the arrival of the German brand's long-awaited midsize crossover. The expansion, which will add over half a million square feet of factory space, overhaul the assembly, body and paint shop and add 2,000 employees to the factory's ranks, officially kicked off last month. "This is a very exciting time in the history of Volkswagen Chattanooga," president and CEO of operations at the plant, Christian Koch, said in a statement. "A lot of hard work is going into adding this second vehicle line to the plant, but it is crucial to our efforts to move forward in America." "Not only will Volkswagen's expansion create thousands of new jobs, it will strengthen their roots in our city," Chattanooga's Mayor, Andy Berke, said in a statement. "From the construction at the plant to the development of a visitors center, there is no doubt that Volkswagen is invested in Chattanooga." VW Chattanooga has been a constant in the headlines over the past few years as pro-union and pro-business interests have battled over the souls representation rights of its roughly 1,500 workers. Just over a year ago, the UAW was defeated in its initial unionization bid, although pro-labor interests have not gone quietly into the night. Construction is expected to continue for two years, with production of Chattanooga's second vehicle expected to commence in 2016. Scroll down for the official press release from Volkswagen. VOLKSWAGEN CHATTANOOGA'S PLANT EXPANSION UNDERWAY Feb 24, 2015 Construction Will Add 2nd Vehicle Line: New Midsize SUV CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2015) - Construction is underway at the Volkswagen Chattanooga manufacturing facility in preparation for production of an all new Midsize SUV. The first phase of construction started in early January 2015 and will continue for the next two years. Volkswagen Chattanooga CEO and President Christian Koch gave a site tour to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger on Tuesday, highlighting the necessary expansion of the production areas in the body shop, paint shop and assembly areas.
Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures
Tue, Jun 23 2020It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.
VW may make Bentley a subsidiary of Audi
Sun, Oct 25 2020FRANKFURT — Volkswagen plans to make British luxury carmaker Bentley a subsidiary of its Audi division as it seeks economies of scale among its top-end brands, German trade publication Automobilwoche reported. Bentley, for now overseen by the head of VW's Porsche business, Oliver Blume, will from next year be part of Audi, where VW group Chief Executive Herbert Diess believes it has more potential, Automobilwoche cited company sources as saying. Synergies could include using Audi technology for a new Bentley SUV, it added. Volkswagen, which declined to comment on the report, is reviewing the future of its high-performance brands Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati motorcycles as part of broader quest for more economies of scale as it shifts to mass producing electric cars. Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters this month that Volkswagen was working on plans to prepare Lamborghini for a stock market listing. Related Video: Audi Bentley Volkswagen
