I have spent countless hours and a lot of money restoring this vehicle and getting it to the point where it is now. It started out in life as a Rialta Motorhome. The Rialta is one of the most desired and sought-after motorhomes ever made; restored, a Rialta will go for over $20,000 today. One of the main attributes of the Rialta is that it has a Volkswagen drivetrain--which means parts will always be readily available, and German engineering and reliability simply can't be beat. The previous owner removed all of the old, out-dated, motorhome interior, plumbing, and wiring. Since I've had it, I recarpeted the walls, put in a new ceiling, resealed the roof (including new vents and extra supports), and installed new window seals where needed. I also stripped the floor, coated it completely with rust-proofing primer/sealer, and covered it with several layers of extremely durable, truck bed coating. I haven't finished everything, but the vehicle is at a point now where you could install your new interior--whatever and however you'd like it to be. If you're not looking to use it as a motorhome, this vehicle could certainly be used as a very roomy stand-up van or work truck just as it is now. I'm about 5'10" and I can walk around comfortably inside this vehicle with no crouching at all. It is so roomy inside that it almost seems like a studio apartment--so much bigger inside than a standard van or Eurovan (it's about 6' x 11' inside) . As big as it is on the inside, the outside of it is just about small enough to fit in a standard parking space--which is a real plus! From the outside, it is very inconspicuous--and it basically just looks like a wide, extended van and not an RV--that's one of the best aspects of this vehicle! I had planned to do this as part of the restoration. The vehicle currently DOES run and drive but I had planned to restore the engine along with everything else as well, if I was going to keep it. I really wish I could keep this vehicle, and I originally bought it with the intention of turning it back into a customized motorhome and keeping it forever, but I ran out of money and need to sell it now to pay down some bills. The windshield has a few bullseyes and cracks but the rest of the glass is in great shape. The exhaust may need a small section repaired/replaced, and the A/C will need to be looked at too--it doesn't blow very cold, especially on very hot days. The rear suspension creaks somewhat when backing out of the driveway etc., but I was told this may be normal. There are some other minor issues that may need tending to as well--but then again, that is to be expected with an 18 year old vehicle. In any event, I suggest (if you're interested in this vehicle), that you come by and check it out for yourself before bidding, but either way, happy bidding! |

VW recalls 1.1M Jetta, Beetle models in US, China over suspension fears
Fri, 17 Oct 2014Volkswagen is recalling about 1.1 million vehicles in China and North America in a newly announced campaign affecting the rear suspensions on some models. For the US, the action covers about 442,265 vehicles, including 400,602 examples of its 2011-2013 Jetta and 41,663 units of the 2012-2013 Beetle and Beetle Convertible. According to Reuters, the recall affects a further 126,000 vehicles in Canada and about 581,090 in China, including related market-specific models like the Sagitar.
The problem can occur if the affected models have a collision to the rear or the side-rear of the vehicle. It's then possible for the trailing arms on the torsion-beam rear suspension to be damaged. If the harm isn't noticed, then the part could fracture while driving. Obviously, a broken rear suspension is going to have an adverse effect on handling.
To fix things, VW dealers will inspect the trailing arms on the models, and they will all receive a sheetmetal part that will make a distinctive sound if broken in the future. If already damaged, the entire torsion beam will be replaced. Obviously, this work will be done at no charge to owners.
2014 VW Golf brings storied hatchback's seventh generation to US
Wed, 27 Mar 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf in US-specification officially debuts at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The new model is the first VW in the States to ride on the company's MQB architecture, and as such, it makes use of plenty of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel to keep weight down. All told, the new shell is 51 pounds lighter than the outgoing generation, despite the fact that the finished car is a full 2.2 inches longer and .5 inches wider than the 2013 model.
Buyers can expect to find a base model powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (blue car above) with 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That means the powerplant delivers the same horsepower as the old naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder while weighing less and producing seven extra pound-feet of torque. TDI (silver car above) buyers, meanwhile, will enjoy a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder mill. VW says the engine yields 10 more horsepower than the old lump, which means the Golf TDI now boasts 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.
GTI (red car above) buyers will now get their hands on a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with approximately 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque - Volkswagen hasn't finalized power numbers for that machine. We're happy to see that the GTI still features its trademark plaid seats. Volkswagen says the new Golf and GTI will go on sale as a 2015 model, but doesn't say when the car will actually hit dealerships.
Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.
