Selling my wife's toy - no time to enjoy it anymore with our infant son. Would rather see it go to a good home. Purchased last summer, driven regularly (except over winter, it was parked on dry solid pavement with a cover, started occasionally and driven around the block to keep the cobwebs out.) Reliable, safe, solid, great condition.
Mechanical: Performed a full tune up after getting it (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, oil change). Approximately 124k miles on it (the odometer gear wore out when we first got it, just after 122k miles. Would not hesitate to drive it across country and back. Twice. Small exhaust leak @ muffler. Blower fan relay burned out (cheap part, we never use it.) Has AC (again, never used it, but it's there.) Trans shifts smoothly, shifter bushing is loose but functional. Small oil leak @ oil filter housing. It's intermittent, just haven't had the time to look into it. Good battery, starts every time, never lets you down.
Exterior: Body is also in excellent shape - VERY little rust - almost not worth mentioning, but two small eraser tip sized spots on the right rear quarter. Couple spots under the front bumper, easily cleaned up. Top is recent and in excellent shape. Few scuffs on the front and rear bumpers. Tires in OK shape. All lights function and are intact (no damage). All glass intact, no damage. Rubber gasket that goes over b-pillar on driver's side has split, needs replacement (excess wind noise, no water leaking if you adjust when it comes out of place.)
Interior: Comes with the tonneau cover for the top when it's down. Seats have been recovered, excellent shape. Aftermarket CD player. Brand new trunk strut piston, brand new top strut pistons. Brand new headlight switch. New aluminum shift knob.
This car is clean and straight, and needs very few odds and ends to be in AMAZING condition, almost all cosmetic. Mechanically, drive her every day with a smile on your face. Drives very smoothly - I considered a suspension upgrade but the car handles so well, rides so nicely, I didn't want to mess with it. It's a lot of fun, but we're not able to enjoy it right now. Comes from a loving VW home (we've owned 10 different VW's over the years, and currently own a 1975 Beetle), we take VERY good care of our cars and want them to have good homes when they leave us.

Volkswagen names new chief designer for Bentley
Thu, Jun 4 2015The Volkswagen Group has named one of its own to head up the design department at its Bentley division. The role now falls to Stefan Sielaff, who has been with the group (off and on) since 1990. Sielaff is principally an interior designer, but has been tasked with setting up numerous overall design offices for Volkswagen and Audi over the years. In his new capacity he'll be reporting to the group's chief engineer Rolf Frech (and oddly not to Bentley chief Wolfgang Durheimer), but at the same time, Sielaff will retain his role as head of interior design for the entire VW group, reporting to its chief designer Walter de Silva. Sielaff replaces Luc Donckerwolke, who has headed up Bentley design since 2012 and is leaving the company. We'll be on the lookout to see where Donckerwolke lands next. Crewe/Wolfsburg, 04 June 2015 Stefan Sielaff to head design at the Bentley brand • Sielaff also responsible for Group Interior Design Strategy Stefan Sielaff (53), currently Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam, will assume responsibility for design at the Bentley brand effective July 1, 2015 in addition to his present post as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy. As Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff succeeds Luc Donckerwolke (49), who held this function since 2012. Stefan Sielaff joined the Volkswagen Group in 1990, beginning his career in the interior design department at Audi. From 1995 the design graduate was entrusted with setting up the Group's Design Center Europe in Spain. In 1997 he was placed in charge of the Design Studio in Munich and was appointed Head of Audi Interior Design in the same year. In 2003 Sielaff moved to DaimlerChrysler as Design Director of the Interior Competence Center, returning to the Volkswagen Group in 2006 to become Head of Audi Design before being appointed Head of the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam und Head of Group Interior Design Strategy in 2012. In his new function as Director of Design at Bentley, Sielaff reports to Rolf Frech, Board Member for Engineering. In his function as Head of Group Interior Design Strategy he continues to report to Walter de Silva, Head of Group Design. Luc Donckerwolke has decided to leave the company. De Silva said: "Luc Donckerwolke has played a key role in the design of various Group brands. We would like to thank him for his work." Recharge Wrap-up: Smart Ready for Rent, MOIA comes to US in 2018
Mon, Dec 12 2016Daimler is launching its "Smart Ready to Rent" service in Europe. Beginning this month in German and French cities, the rental scheme bridges the gap between short-term Car2go rentals and longer leases. Customers book the Smart model of their choice – including the emissions-free Electric Drive and the hotter Brabus versions – for a period of one day up to three months. As such, Smart Ready to Rent is useful to those who live outside of an urban center. Users can book a car online or through a dealer, and vehicles are collected and returned at the dealership. Read more at Green Car Congress. Volkswagen will launch its MOIA mobility arm in the US in 2018. The recently announced brand will take on public transportation as a competitor with services such as ride hailing and car sharing. VW is looking into forging partnerships with the likes of technology and ride sharing companies. The automaker also expects to show an electric shuttle-type concept in 2017 for pooling services, but will use the three-row VW Atlas crossover in the meantime until that concept reaches production. Look to see MOIA emerging in major cities along the US coasts. Read more at Automotive News. A new report from Lux Research suggests that most EV batteries are better off being recycled than reused. Once lithium-ion batteries have outlived their usefulness for automotive duty, some automakers (BMW, Nissan, and Toyota included) are looking at ways to use their remaining capacity, such as for stationary energy storage. The new report, though, says that reusing batteries offers "questionable returns on account of reduced performance." Better to be like Tesla, and just recycle them. Read more at Hybrid Cars. VW LogBox and Race App performance data logger for R models [w/video]
Tue, Dec 30 2014Now that it's got a 300-horsepower Golf R to brag about, Volkswagen wants you to be able to brag about it accurately with the LogBox and Race App performance data logging combo. Plug the LogBox into your VW's OBD II port and it sends data over BlueTooth to the Race App, measuring variables like acceleration, distance, G-force and engine performance. If you're on a circuit, it uses Google Maps to make a map of the track, and you can record live video in-app to match with the data. Volkswagen says the LogBox will be available for R models and "a range of further Volkswagen cars," so you'll want to hit up your dealer with questions before ordering. It's available from the VW accessories store for 299 euros ($365 US), but right now the free app is only available in German, in the German-language iTunes and Google Play store. We imagine that will be corrected shortly; in the meantime, the video can show you how it works.
