Cant buy me love....... Yes this 1987 VW Cabriolet was famous in the movie with Patrick Dempsey it truly put a following on this car. This 1987 Vw was Originally sold New in Rapids City South Dakota and has been there ever since. She is 100 % rust free and all original paint. The Graphite metallic is very shiny and has only minor road rash on the front grill from the owners pulling it behind their motor home. This car was always in a Motor home family and only used for their commutes. I purchased the car from a woman who has had it for 3 years and it stayed in her showroom of her business and she never had the time to drive it. So She decided to let her baby go and Now someone will get an amazing car. This is a wolfsburg limited edition car. The white leather interior is in excellent condition with the seats being very soft and supple only your usual wear on the drivers seat but nothing major. The carpets are black and in excellent condition. The dashboard is pristine as is the shifter . The car has a new kenwood Cd player and I also have the Original am/fm Cassette player as well. The car also has Ac which was a option. Its still the Original R12 and is Ice cold . This is very rare to see. Also the car has cruise control as a option and it works perfect. The engine starts right up and idles perfect, Its dry and has no leaks. I drove this car from South Dakota to Wisconsin and it was an amazing drive back. The car handles like it did when new . The suspension is very tight and makes no noises. The car has great power and it shifts through all 5 speeds perfectly. The clutch was replaced a few years ago due to age so its like new. The tires are are all in excellent condition and a new within this year. The brakes also are in excellent condition with plenty of life left. I left the front tow bar on the car to show everyone it was used to pull behind a motor home and hence the low miles. It can come off very easy or maybe you will use it for the same thing. Either way this is an amazing Original car that was always well taken care of and serviced. I have receipts with service as well as the Original manuals 4 keys and Original window sticker which was framed. I have a Clear South Dakota title and the auto check is also perfect with Zero accidents. Again this car is 100 % Original and I wanted to describe it as best as I can. Also the underneath of the car is very clean and nothing is rusty . This is a true survivor! I have a reliable shipping company if you need to have it shipped to your door. Please call me with any questions you have. Thank you. Steve 954-464-3515
P.s I am setting the reserve at a very fair price and someone will truly get an amazing cabrio.. |

Recharge Wrap-up: VW exec predicts EVs with 375-mile range
Wed, Oct 8 2014Volkswagen says EV ranges over 300 miles aren't too far in the future. Plug-in hybrids are merely a bridge to all-electric mobility becoming more practical for people who need to travel longer distances, according to Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen's head of powertrain development. Energy density is increasing rapidly in new batteries. Speaking about the e-Golf, Neusser says, "I expect the next generation in 2015-17 will increase to around 300 km [186 miles] and the following step will be around 500-600 km [310-372 miles]." Neusser also says he believes that charging infrastructure will improve to catch up with these more advanced batteries. Read more at Motoring. BMW is offering higher incentives for the all-electric i3 than the range-extended version. More buyers are opting for the i3 REx, with its 78 extra miles of range. So, to move the standard i3 (which is already cheaper), BMW is offering $2,000 in incentives for October - double what is offered for the i3 REx. The added incentives help close the price gap between the BMW and other EVs with similar ranges. The deals won't last long, though. According to New Jersey BMW salesman Manny Antunes, BMW's current incentives are "as aggressive as they're going to get" for a while. Read more at Green Car Reports. Honda is changing its research and development process for all cars after a series of Fit Hybrid recalls. The hybrid version, which makes up more than half of all Fit sales in Japan, was the subject of four recalls within nine months. In response, Honda will change the way it develops cars worldwide, with one extra "gate" to pass in the process. Honda will do prototype testing earlier in the research process to see how separately developed components work together before moving onto the car's development phase. It will add time and cost to making cars, but Honda hopes it will help prevent problems - like those that come with a flurry of recalls - down the road. Read more at Automotive News. Former Porsche execs charged with stock manipulation in Germany
Wed, Aug 19 2015The ongoing indictment of top Porsche executives for alleged stock manipulation during the attempted takeover of Volkswagen has taken years to reach an actual decision, but a trial date has finally been set for October 22. In addition to former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (pictured above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter, prosecutors have also added Anton Hunger, who was communications boss at the time, to the list of those charged, according to Reuters. The men purportedly made false statements to investors about plans to acquire 75 percent of VW stock. The prosecutor also dropped charges against Ferdinand Piech and Wolfgang Porsche in the same case, Reuters reports. The two Porsche family members were on the company's board at the time, but investigators found that they had no role in making the false statements. If found guilty, the former Porsche execs could face up to five years in prison. As expected, lawyers for Wiedeking and Haerter have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing by their clients. The investigation into Porsche SE's actions during the failed VW takeover go back to at least 2009 when the firm's offices were raided. Wiedeking and Haerter were eventually indicted in 2012. A Stuttgart court initially dismissed the case for lack of evidence, but in 2014 that decision was reversed on appeal. At the same time, investors have brought multiple civil lawsuits against the company, but none of those cases have been successful.
Crash test videos show how rust compromises safety
Fri, Apr 13 2018These recently released Swedish videos serve as a reminder that rust isn't just a cosmetic flaw, when it comes to cars. The insurance company Folksam and the homeowner organization Villaagarnas Riksforbund gathered examples of two relatively popular, but by now rusty cars, and then performed crash tests with them at the Thatcham Research facility in Britain. The results are sobering. The rustier cars chosen for the tests were first-generation Mazda6s, cars that have a reputation for early-onset rust in salty surroundings, such as the Nordic countries in Europe or the Salt Belt in the U.S. The cars in the other end of the spectrum were fifth-generation Volkswagen Golfs, which thanks to their body treatment only really start to show rust at over ten years old. But rust isn't just on the surface, it goes bone deep. While the Mazda did decently well in Euro NCAP testing as a new car, there's now a 20 percent higher risk of death in the 2003-2008 Mazda due to the degradation of its bodyshell. In the rusty car, the chassis rail separates from the floor, the footwell ruptures, the sill gives way, the seat mountings move and the dummy's head hits the B-pillar; all important failures, despite Thatcham saying the cars actually performed better in the crashes than they expected with all the rust. But still, the corroded structure isn't able to transmit loads in the way it was originally designed to do. This content is hosted by a third party. The Golf does significantly better — despite rust flakes flying when the Golf hits the wall — as the years have only caused it to lose a single point. An important thing to remember is that the cars aren't tested in comparison to corresponding new, 2018 cars: the tests are in reference to the crashworthiness standards in place when they were new. The cars' airbags inflate like they were supposed to, but on the Mazda the dummy's head bottoms out the airbag due to the car's structure failing, meaning the airbag cannot perform as designed. Driven cautiously, an older car is still mostly fine for driving around. But tests like these remind us that it's not enough that a car runs and drives, if the body has turned into Swedish knackebrod. And if you repair the visible rust and the structure underneath remains as compromised as ever, there's an ugly truth under all the bondo. Perhaps it isn't such a bad idea to have yearly roadworthiness inspections.
